I know it's a bit late in the day, but I recognise where that is, it's the bottom of London Road in Sheffield. I lived near there in the late seventies at the time of my disastrous first marriage (only lasted two years, not sorry it ended when I realised I was also married to the mother in law). Now been bery happily married for 34 years after recovery time of a few years.

Hillman Husky MkIII puts that at 1963 or just after.

Given that's an unfinished Buccaneer, presumably that's the factory at Brough (near Hull).

It still looked much the same in 1977-8, although the shops on the right had gone. Still recognisable now.

Almost certainly Brough, the Buccaneer is being towed by a David Brown tractor that looks the same as the wartime RAF ones used to tow bomb trolleys etc (there was one in the old Airfix kit of the Stirling from 1968). The Buccaneer is a S.1, underpowered by the Gyron Junior, that would date the photo to the early Sixties. I can't see a serial, and so can't pin it down. The control surfaces look to be painted in the Antiflash white that early Buccaneers were finished  in. The original idea was that the Buccaneer would toss bomb a nuke into the middle of a Soviet battle group, sinking ships and irradiating a good chunk of the Atlantic Ocean. The Spey powered S2 was a much better aircraft and switched to a much more non nuclear role. Looking at the photo, I wonder if the Bucc is being towed to the paint shop prior to flight test. The presence of the Minis and 105E Anglia fit with an early Sixties date.

The Fairey Fireflash. Hmm, it was an interesting design, but a complete dead end in Air to Air Missile design. It consisted of four rocket motors that launched the missile in the general direction of the target. After the motors burnt out, the remainder flew on as an unpowered dart as a beam rider, that is it followed the radar return of the target generated by the launch aircraft radar. Took years to develop, test flown on the Hunter and a trials Squadron of specially built Swift F.7 and abandoned as not a bit crap. It was quite big as you can tell by looking at the Commer it is on  and the Firestreak and Redtop did the same job cheaper.

BTW, I  am a plane nerd (and modeller), if you had not already guessed

I can just make out two 'BT' numbers - issued from Beverley, East Yorks, as Brough is in East Yorks yes, it could be Brough, the home of the Buccaneer.

The Spitfire is a Mk XVI in the usual psuedo Battle of Britain colour scheme. The Mk XVI ( or Mk 16 after 1948) didn't enter service until 1945. It was basically a Mk IX with a Packard Merlin 266, and most had the cut down rear fuselage and bubble canopy like this one.

Is the Ford a messed about Zephyr designed to take the sump out on the first pothole it hits, wouldn't last long on some of the roads around us.

The Ford is a Consul, the 4 cylinder lesser model than the 6 cylinder Zephyr and Zodiac models but I’d wager that Consul is packing a V8, most likely a Ford 289 or 302…
