Think that's a fibreglass flip front, they were avl in the late 60's-70's

There used to be a shop in Elmers End, called Pit Stop I think, that used to have Mini and escorts ones on display outside.

The past is another country etc...

I once went to Elland - and it was a mythic place because of Leeds United - this was the actual 'Elland' that the 'Road' of my childhood football led to...I was at THE destination.

The b/w past is often so grim tho.

The performance? 0-60 in 22 seconds. Is there any modern car THAT slow?

That is a whole new thread - slowest cars on the market!

Overall Austin's advertising was pretty poor.  Sales of the Hereford were dismal compared to similar offers from Ford and Vauxhall.

Still available sheff, for some reason I think someone's still making them. There's an ebay listing now showing 5 new ones available. Maybe made to order. Honestly, what is the current demand for them? Fibresports used to do them about 150 years ago.

Don't see any listed for a Fiesta or Ka or Mondeo or Puma. Or Cortina or Capri or Mk2 Granada.

A mate had a lift off Mini flip front with the electrics which connected / disconnected through a caravan trailer socket. A highly tuned 13-something -cc A-series with Triumph 1500 pistons and a front mounted Fiesta radiator. But no cooling fan yet. One really dark stormy night out in the country rain got into the socket and we had no headlights. 'Right I have an idea, why don't we reverse home using the boot-mounted rally spotlight, the roads are quiet and road users would see the light and know there's a car there'. Ok.

So after about 5 miles of this A-series absolutely revving it's tits off in reverse gear with horrendous noise and no cooling, (and the driver and passenger seated facing the wrong way), we had HGF and an A-series kettle. It wasn't exactly easy to steer or drive backwards along narrow country roads, rear wheel steering on a Mini FFS. Not much distance between bores with the Triumph pistons.

Oh bugger. An interesting night.

Fucking hilarious when I think about it now.

I think Smith & Deakin or similar still offer them.

You could chuck one on a std Anglia, midget etc back in the day in place of rotten wings etc & get an MOT pass.

I know someone who had a MK1 escort one in the 00's.

If you look in the period mags you could get fibreglass sills for most 50's/60's cars! I used to wonder how you'd get on in the 90's if you had something with these unbeknownst to you???

What an overpass - pedestrians going up and down all those steps just to cross the road.

I know it's a bit late in the day, but I recognise where that is, it's the bottom of London Road in Sheffield. I lived near there in the late seventies at the time of my disastrous first marriage (only lasted two years, not sorry it ended when I realised I was also married to the mother in law). Now been bery happily married for 34 years after recovery time of a few years.
