Packard Clipper 1957/58 - a 'Country Sedan' station wagon. By that point Packard cars were warmed-over Studebakers with just some minor body and trim differences.

After '58 Packard production stopped completely because of poor sales. An ignominious end to one of the greatest US marques.

Sometimes they were known as Pakardbakers!

Over time almost all the American manufacturers apart from the Big 3 struggled with the economy of scale with component supplies.

Possibly Tippi Hedren - if it is that's Neil the lion she kept as a pet...

First British tank 1902? And first mobile gun 1898? - manufactured by Simms in London...

The production line at Browns Lane looks a tough place to work back then.

You can see the primitive track just in front of the MK10.

The guys sitting down are probably attaching door trim - which seems to be stored to the right of the pic -  they must have been uncomfortable sitting on the moving track.

Given that's a publicity or press shot I bet things were even more unkempt ordinary times - looks at all the kit stacked up to the right.

Jaguar was riddled with strikes in the 60's - not surprising when you see working conditions like sitting on the concrete floor all day.

I've only worked on a production line once - very tough.

Jaguar Mark IV production from 1945 at the Foleshill factory looks a little more civilised.

Lord Nuffield (William Morris) is the chap in the light suit to the right.

Morris Mosquito - the Minor under development. Very late in the process they decided to widen the car - that's why the Minor bonnet has the flat section in the middle and the early cars had a front bumper in two halves - as some of the tooling had already been set up.

Lord Nuffield said it looked "like a poached egg" - superb car really.

The first tank (tracked) was made in Lincolnshire look up "the water carrier for mesopotamia".

Supposedly a executive from Ford considered Brown's Lane one of the most primitive car factories he had looked round, certainly for the sort of cars it was making!

Cowley was supposed to be a grim place to work, with metal dust in the air & holes in the ceiling!

You can see the bracket placed on the front bumper in this shot from the 1948 London Motor Show
