It will be as it is RHD. Unless it was in one of the outpost of the British empire*

But was it built in Britain? Did they have a works here like Citroen did at Slough for the Traction Avant?

It turns out that Mercedes Benz did make some chassis in the UK in the 1920's and '30's. But they were 20 seat luxury coaches!

The importers were originally called 'British Mercedes Benz'.

As it doesn't look like a coach I wonder if it's a badge put on by the importers?

That was taken at the start of the very first Club Triumph Round Britain Reliability Run in 1966. London to John O'Groats to Lands End and back to London in 48 hours. Leaves London on a Friday evening, then you have breakfast in John O'Groats on the Saturday morning and Lands End on Sunday morning before getting back for tea on Sunday evening.

The event still runs every two years barring the odd fuel crisis and pandemic.

The first run had only six cars but now regularly attracts over a hundred cars, all Triumphs of course (plus the odd Standard). I've done it five times since 1992, always with a 1300TC. I've not done it since 2016. Some people do every event but I don't feel the need to. Notwithstanding the fact the cars are all now 50 odd years old, so am I (my car is nine months younger than me) and it is quite a physically draining event.

Some pics from 2016. Sorry they are not black and white.

The start. Knebworth House.

And back at the finish.

20161009_194755.thumb.jpg.7850090099f4a5cdb5d804fe87f2e4e1.jpg

The start and finish point was at Broadfields Garage for as long as it was a Triumph dealership. It then moved to a pub in Enfield but as the event grew to over a hundred cars something bigger was required, hence Knebworth.

I see!
I dont suppose you have any Triumph contacts who`d have more pics of it when it started at Cockfosters (or Enfield)?

You'll have to excuse the quality of the pictures, I'm taking them one handed from a book in artificial light.

The book in question was published by the Club to commemorate 50 years of the Run in 2016. The cover shows the same six cars but in a different order so perhaps one picture is the start and one is the finish. Speculating there.

Inside is a sharper version of the picture you posted.

And a brief write up of Broadfields Garage.

And another picture of Broadfields at a later event. It seems the last Run to start here was in 1990.

If you want to know more I would suggest, off the top of my head, Dale Barker.

He's a club stalwart and current Club magazine editor and competitions secretary. Also I don't have to worry about breaking any Club confidentiality rules if there are any as he is proprietor of a Triumph specialist garage not a million miles from where Broadfields used to be in Potters Bar. Therefore his number is freely available on the Internet.

Thats fantastic! And I`ve spoken to the guy at Moordale a few times (for a 1500 engine & to see if there`s any projects about!), not knowing he had anything to do with the club!

That last picture looks like it was taken when worked there the first time, & amazingly, despite being a Triumph lover (I may have even had a russet brown 1500HL auto around that time, although it wasn't my daily), I had no idea about the club runs starting there!

I think I`ll have to pop back to Moordales for a chinwag!

That's great. When did you work there?

Obviously if you pop in you need to see Dale. I think he has a couple of other people working for him (he did last time I was there, but that was many years ago), but he's the boss.

I am still the FWD rep for Club Triumph and have been since 1992. I still get the odd phone call or email out of the blue from people asking advice but not nearly as often as I used to.

Also I had a Russet Brown 1850 for a while. A great colour, it turned almost orange under street lights. You wouldn't think brown could glow in the dark but mine did.

First time was in the late 80`s, second time in the late 90`s. I was in a Triumph club at one point, in fact I think I still have the unused window sticker somewhere! I wasn't an active member though, so didn't take much notice of these events.

I dont recall my dolly doing that, but it was far from mint! I think I still have a few litres of Russet brown cellulose in the garage, which must be off by now, & a brown door card, & possibly some bumper brackets & overriders.., I`m not sure why they didn't go with the car, but there you go!!

Blimey, there's three of them.

Sorted. Don't know what happened there, replaced repeats with the pictures I originally meant to post.

Today I received a small collection of 1920s photos. Some gems in there, I especially liked that the photographer enjoyed taking pictures of everyday life. Please pardon my shit scanner:
