New Rover diagnostics tool. Demo day June 15th.

I have been designing a diagnostics tool for MGs and Rovers for a couple of years and I am finally launching it on Kickstarter within the next few days.  I have already submitted it to them but it is stuck in their moderation queue.

There are more details here

http://www.pscan.eu

Rob Bell from the MGF Register is organising a demo day in North London / Hertfordshire area and anyone is welcome to come along.

Details are here

Ahh, we got ourselves a clever cloggs!

Pretty much covers the bases too.

Does it code keys and injectors etc?

Not yet.  In fact I don't think I know what coding injectors means on a Rover.

If any of you are in Rover 75 forums I would appreciate you spreading the word.

The main one seems to be www.the75andztclub.co.uk but I can't do it because their rules about advertising are quite strict.

Very cool. So, what does it do over normal odbii diagnostics thingmy? Whats the kickstarter money to fund?

I think you may need to pep up your website a bit. Have you got a page for it on facebook?

Sorry for the question I'm just quite interested.

Normal obdii tools do not work on Airbags or ABS, do not work on many older Rover petrol engines, and of the diesels only on face lift Rover 75 (i.e. the last of the last).

My tool does pretty much all of that lot, and obdii as well.

I need enough money for the first production run, which is what Kickstarter is for.

I don't have a facebook thing.

On modern common rail diesels the injectors have a series of numbers and letters on them which relates to the precise amount of fuel that particular injector squirts over a given open time. These numbers are programmed int the ecu for better running and emissions. Sometimes known as iqa numbers . Injector quantity adjustment.

Boo!  Hiss!

Fortunately for me there are quite lot of enthusiast cars that use Rover ECUs.  Series 1 Lotus Elise, many Caterhams, run out model Rover Mini.  Hopefully this will be a big enough market to get started.

Fair play to you, I hope it goes well.

My Discovery 2 (2003 V8) uses Testbook for diagnostics/setting up options etc - would this work on that? I suspect not as it's equipped with Bosch Motronic M5.2.1  but if it does them I'll buy one.

"I'm in", either way - pledge made and link posted on www.rover800.info/forum

The ability to reset airbag ECUs on 800s would be hugely welcome as loads of people are having trouble with them.  For Discoverys, resetting/bleeding the ACE system would be handy.

If it will work on Landrovers, I'll whack the details up there, too.

Ah, so it's YOU!!!!! I have beenz in discussions with Rob as to a venue.

Impressive shiz.  I don't pretend to understand the technicalities involved.  Would be nice to know there's a machine out there that can communicate with the Rover of Doom if need be though - rather than bridging the pins and counting the EML flashes.

Agreed. A bit more info on the front page, rather than just a link, would be good.

As for coding keys, that is another thing that would be massively useful to the 600/800 community as the Valeo keys are a bit of a problem due to their propensity for self destruction

We are just trying to confirm a venue for this. I should be able to update everyone fairly soon. Watch this space folks.

Agreed that I have a huge amount of work to do on this.

The video is particularly nasty and needs updating badly.

I am also waiting for a KV6 ECU to arrive in the post to play with.

Keep up the good work, sir - I am impressed by anyone who can handle this sort of thing!

That's brilliant, really. You took the time to develop a system to diagnose faults on a failed marque where as most would just say scrap them all.

I can't pretend to know all of what you mentioned in the links (not a computer type) but I do have a Sykes Pickavant ACR2 with MG/Rover pods. Where does your system differ from these units?

Thanks, and good luck. If someone deserves it then its you for taking the time to do this.

P.S are you still looking for a KV6 ECU? I may be able to help.

I believe it's a good bit cheaper, and a PC screen is a lot bigger than a two/four line LCD screen.

If you want to look at multiple sensor parameters at the same time it will be better.

IP.S are you still looking for a KV6 ECU? I may be able to help.

Yes please

I had a shock this morning.  The July edition of the Practical Classics was on my doormat.  I got a mention on page 12.  I wasn't expecting this for another week.

Does that mean that all the other subscribers have it?  When will most PC readers see the piece?

Sounds like a great idea DNJ, will it work on LDV's?  The ABS light has been lit on the one I drive for most of the last 3 years.

According to howmanyleft there about 20,000 of these still running.  Need to do some research.

I have been told that this will probably work on early Landrover Freelanders as well.

If anyone has one I would love to try it.

More details of the meet(s):-

I will be at Friern Barnet Retail park from 10am until lunchtime.  Most of the people will be MGF owners I think and hopefully some Caterhams and Lotus Elises.

At lunchtime I will move on to the MG-Rover-South East meet at Halfway House in Brentwood.
