Bladdy ell Mario

Did anyone else see tonight that Bernie the shouting cockney car geezer was back with his Canadian friend Mario for a new series of Classic Car Rescue on Channel 5? I was really surprised to see this had been commissioned for a second series as the first (from the many comments I read) didn't appear to be received well.  Bernie wasn't as loud but the fake Top Gear style stunts were back including a split water pipe on a test drive, a power cut in the middle of the respray and Mario getting locked in a car and unable to climb out.

Watched it up to the power cut bit, thought 'here we go' and turned over. So overly fake and dramatic.

I seriously can't believe they've recomissioned this shit.

I've never seen a show so universally slated by every section of the car community.

I watched it.

It is shit, but I cannot help myself.

I'm not sure who the target audience is - I'm fucking awful on anything spannery, but even I felt patronised. Lord knows what some of you chaps must feel watching it.

To be fair, it wasn't quite as awful as the last series. But that isn't saying anything really.

I watched it too. More for amusement value and the "What the fuck are you doing?!" aspect. Rubbish as though it is, it's still probably more enjoyable that what else might have been on, and it was handily timed for when I broke off changing the cambelt on the van to have a bite to eat!

I'm delighted to be able to say, I missed it completely because I was upstairs hiding on AS.  You want to know how this shit got recommissioned?  Because all the TV companies are run by vastly-overeducated total idiots who have nothing but contempt for their customers, ie us.  [/rant]

I doubt the programme makers actually care if people think it's shit, just so long as they watch it, and more importantly, watch the adverts.

Channel 5 seems to specialise in these lightweight shows that pretend to have some sort of 'specialist interest' yet is almost unwatchable by anyone with the slightest knowledge of what they're doing. Maybe the point of the programme IS for classic car fans to sit shouting "You fucking bald twat, do it properly" at the telly.

I can't watch these shows, not so much for the idiocy of the content, but for the adverts and time-wasting, "On tonight's show/after the break/coming up/ earlier we saw..." nonsense that pads out what is at best a 30 minute show into an hour's broadcasting slot. That's what killed Fifth Gear.

Could be worse, ever tried watching Ice Road Truckers?

As with most programes on TV I record them and fast forward through the ad breaks, recaps and titles. This program is real car-crash tv though, I find it hard not to watch. Voice over is ridiculously amped up too - porsche noted for its V8s  - news to me!

Do these people not know ebay exists? Haggling over seats with that creepy, no-chinned bearded, American buffoon:

-Oh, they're really worn. How much do you want for 'em?

-I want £300.

-That's too much. I'll give you £100?

-No

-I'll give you £250?

-... OK, I'll take £250.

And then spends hundreds on getting them re-covered!

And I'm sure stopping painting a car half way through because of a staged power cut won't mean you'll have to sand it all back down and start again?

It won't take long though  - he was taking the paint off the aluminium body with a rough sanding disc.

I watched the Sherpa Coupe episode when it was first shown. That was more than enough for me.

I've probably seen them all, they're OK to have on in the background for something to watch.

I did laugh when they brayed the hell out of the calipers with hammers, then left them complete with scratches, scrapes and hammer marks over the Porsche logo'd bit.

I really like the montage bit where they were showing footage of old 928's.

Unfortunately they included a 944 and a 968 in the clips.

Also when the electrical guy was fixing the car after it had been painted, but appeared to still be covered in dust from when they dragged it into the lock up.

Still it was not as bad as the MGB in the last series that "swapped" engines mid way through the rebuild.

Its like Wheeler Dealers. Watchable if only to spot the bits they have done wrong or changed without saying anything.

Oh yeah, I forgot the 'welding up the sunroof to make it more desirable' MGB!

What a load of shit.

I was channel hopping last night. I wouldn't have bothered watching it if it wasn't for the fact that they featured one of my favourite cars of all time - the Porsche 928! B) B) B)

I too felt that the power cut and Mario getting stuck inside the car were staged. I really wish they didn't do this and just stuck the nuts and bolts of the 928 refurb - no pun intended. :D

I never knew that the 928 had sunvisors for the rear passengers or that the shell was made out of three different materials. :)

 I really want a 928 now! :D

this is one of the shitest tv program ever made. I know it must be shit as even I don't watch it and I once watched the TV for an hour and a half when it was turned off as I thought it was some kind of noir nordic drama.  That channel 4 thing looks promising though.

Complete rubbish but essential viewing...for some strange reason.

It did, until I scrolled down and saw who was presenting it.

I too was amazed it got a 2nd series, but found myself watching it anyway, as it was preferable (but only just) to most of the other crap that was on. I thought the final presentation of the car was really poor, considering it'd had a respray

I don't know why you lot watched this in view of the total shoeing it got last time. If you watched it and found it to be a cringeworthy crock of bollocks - serves you right!!!!

Nah, I couldn't bare to watch it this time round.

It's be like my Grandma watching TVs shows with Irish people in them, just so she could complain.

Watch series 2 after watching serioes one poking yourself in the eye with a stick with a bit of dog shit on the end of it because you wanted reminded how horrible it was the first time you did it.

I always watch this.

TBH, I am disappointed they aren't quite as cack-handed, as in previous series'. :D

Bernie Fineman is pretty much bang on playing the kind of character I wouldn't enjoy to be around, but he climbed in my esteem immensely by choosing a P6 V8 as his personal transport. A few minus points for Scarab Blue paintwork, though. That daft Canadian is dull enough to make my brain go numb.

The show makes watching paint dry an exciting pastime in comparison.

I'm sure the two gents are quite decent when not exhibiting their abysmal acting skills, or at least, I hope so.

I've just watched the latest episode about the Fiat 500, what a pair of helmets, loads of arguing again, smoking out the workshop with oil leaks and they removed the engine, spent £2000 making it 6bhp quicker but never changed the clutch whilst the engine was out.

Utter cowboys.
