tyres from t'internet

Probably been done to death already, but here's a list of internet tyre suppliers i've personally bought from without any problems whatsoever.

In no particular order Camskill, Mytyres, Openeo and now Tyreleader, thats one i hadn't used before but just got a set of Nokian Z summer tyres for the Outback for £8 cheaper per tyre than any of the others, that pays for the fitting and balancing, ordered Sunday delivered Wednesday from Germany, how do they do it so quick.

I never leave such things till the last minute, so if i know i need some rubber soon i start checking those sites weekly from around 6 months before the buggers are needed, you get a feel for prices that way and sooner or later the right bargain crops up, hit the BiY button, if like me you use winter tyres (what winter?) on your daily drivers then they must be bought in the summer if you don't want yer knickers pulling down.

Its probably a thorny issue and many of you will prefer to support your local tyre bay, and i agree with you and used to do that meself, unfortunately some of them don't seem to like customers who specify or know what they want and it can become a battle of wills at the counter, with the tyre bloke insisting that tyre x (most profitable) is as good as what i asked for, but i don't want x i want y or z.

Sod arguing any more i now buy more and more stuff via the net for this reason.

I use online suppliers quite a lot. It helps whenyou have your own fitter and balancer tho

I'm fortunate in that my local tyre guy (works out of a van) will fit what I supply with no problems, I'll let him know what I want, and if he can get it cheaper he will. It helps in that I do the work (apart from routine servicing) on his vehicles so I give him a good price on that and he generally fits the tyres for a couple of drinks :-)

A tyre shop local to me knows me quite well and fits, balances and disposes for a fiver.

I think the way it works is that it doesn't go through the system, but they get pizza for lunch when I come in.

I also buy secondhand, and have often bought unused spares and so on.  I just got a couple of 13" tyres for my fathers car brand new that a garage had found in the boot of a trade in.  They'll be better than the 1980s tyres he had on the car, though I must admit they didn't look too bad.

I've used etyres.co.uk for quite a few years and cars now. They have mobile fitters and you choose a date and time for fitting at home or work and will ring you to confirm a time on the morning. They were also able to balance the stupid centreless alloys citroen use.

I once took a band new 1983 Dunlop out of the boot, and put it on the same car in 2005. It was amazingly bad. Years of Temperature cycling can not have done it any favours.

He he, the unused Dunlop in the boot of mine is 18 years old, looks as good as new but i bet it would be creased to buggery within minutes of being used.

Got me old bead slammer and tyre leavers out and whipped the tyres off the Outbacks summer wheels, wheels are now in for refurb (not cos i bashed fuck out of 'em either), been years since i fitted me own car tyres but enjoyed the trip down memory lane.

I keep me eyes open for a used tyre balancer, wouldn't mind doing me own again.

That's well cheap. My local, where I've been going for many many years, charges me about a dozen quids for the same service.

Using local tyre fitters are a gamble, I'd rather use one of these now than wait for the part worn to go flat. :(

The local tyre guys I use work out cheaper on the same tyres than the tinterweb and there's no messing about waiting for couriers

Funnily enough I'm currently sat in some Formula 1 autocentre and they've quoted me £30+vat to fit 5 new tyres, Kwik fit next door basically told me to FOAD when I asked them their price...

Was recently looking into some new front tyres for my motor, I found some online suppliers doing some good deals on Bridgestone's if I wanted to replace like for like, but not sure if I could turn up to a local tyre & exhaust centre and ask them to fit them. I am guessing they would but only for a premium i.e. "You might of got the tyres cheaper online pal but we aint fitting em cheap" etc etc "So you might as well just got them from us in the first place"

As Twosmoke points out, this is great if you have a 'mate' who can fit them.

Tyre-Traders used by me the last time. I've used the mobile e-tyres as well along with the local.

Interesting, so some of these Tyre centres will entertain fitting tyres not purchased from them??

Usually better going to an independant though Kwikfit and NTS near me do it, though I suspect the money doesn't see the till.

F1 and Kwik fit are next door to each other here in Colchester, the fat man at Kwik fit said they only fit their parts whilst showing me the door.

Mytyres, and IIRC Tyreleader have a section of their sites you can look up your area for fitters, prices shown, indeed the fitters listed on their site will accept the tyres if you specify delivery straight to them, not a problem for us as we get lots of parcels and the delivery blokes know its a safe drop if we're not here, plus proper neighbours.

I've got 3 people i use for fitting, tenner a corner does the trick they all take care with the wheels too.

Don't suppose you lost any sleep when kwikfit wouldn't play ball Trigger, i never use the place.

Hi 2smoke300  -me ansome -  would you be happy to let me know where your "local" friendly tyre fitter is in the Camborne area ?

I use Slo-Fit in Penzance for MOT's  (£30  each year, same as their Truro branch) but their choice, and price, on 155/80/13's is abysmal.....

I did check an outfit in Helston, up near the Tesco city at the top of the town, their prices were better, but again, little choice in those sizes.

I realise I could go to 165/70/13's, but they are usually showing up more expensive, but can still get a good deal when I look online, but as others say, the big tyre chains don't wanna know about fitting them !

I've just ended up being charged £30 all in for the fitting of my 5 tyres. Result!

Lovejoy , I have my own garage and tyre equipment nr Redruth.

Pm me with what you want and I will see what I can do .

Shiters discounts very much available and I will fit anything you want . The only thing I shy away from are anything much bigger than 225/45 17 especially if on pristine alloys.

I might even have some part worn 155 13 s somewhere if that's any use

I've been using Blackcircles for the last few years, they're cheap and efficient.

I wish I could say the same about the local tyre shops. They're 10-20% more expensive than the online retailers, presumably because they give you the priviledge of 'supporting a local business'. And even if you only use them for fitting, they are still shite - dented wheels, unbalanced tyres, 20 year old tyre valves left in place (though I was charged for their replacement), nuts left finger-tight etc.

They're so rubbish that I reckon I'll soon give up on them and start doing the job myself, a la Mr.Bo11ox. WCPGW ?

last lot I got was through Asda Tyres. Pretty good price and could choose somewhere local to get them delivered and fitted. Got then done at Arnold Clark, who also proceeded to clean and the valet the car after they were fitted for free :D

Great service from mytyres for winters, ordered mid-December, arrived 3 days later. King Meiler WinterTact are great retreads, hundred and twenty odd for four 195 65 15s. They only use Michelin, Conti and one or two other 'premium brand' carcasses, I'm told. Whether that's true I don't know, but they drive better than cheap new tyres.

My local part worn tyre emporium are doing Kingpin retreads in 15in Volvo flavour for £34 a corner supplied and fitted. Done about 1500 miles on them so far with no issues, grip seems good and the taxi drivers round here swear by them. I'd buy them again.

I've used Event Mobile Tyres for the last couple of years or so. Cheap and have a good range of tyres plus they come to you and are always on time which saves me having to sit in some freezing cold 'waiting area' whilst some herbert tells me I also need my tracking done and six new shockers.

The nearest non-mobile tyre fitter I used round here really pissed me off, as I asked them if they could supply a certain tyre. After listening to "There's no point in spending money on more expensive tyres, they're all the same" I found they couldn't get the make I was after. So I asked for a price for fitting only, and to be charitable for his time spent trying I suggested he added on a bit to cover the profit he'd otherwise be making on the sale of the tyre.

Agreed a price for 8 tyres (I had the misfortune to have two vehicles needing a set at once, so getting a good price was very important!) which was £60 if I dropped the wheels off. I prefer that anyway, as I'm not relying on someone else mangling the jacking points etc. When it came to collect them the price was now £10 a tyre - when I queried this I got told "Well, I'm loosing money if I don't supply the tyre". FFS!

Bought stuff on line for many a year now. Varying retailers, i shop around a bit. Especially as good rubber for the C8 can be a ton a corner. Got some Goodyears for £55 each from MyTyres when National were asking £145 fro the same.

I use a local independent called Mo's - fiver a tyre fitted & balanced.

Use Garry (Cleveland tyres - was by KFC on the north end, but has now moved by the Bridewell / Prozzy lane)

Top bloke, and being a VOXALL perv, you can chat about redtops LET XE and the rest.

I'd stay away from Terry (from Dock road, with the large tractor tyre outside)

Been buying my tyres on line for the last few years mostley form mytres also some from the bay.If its a steel wheel I get my local scrap yard to fit them, its very cheep that way. Then I see if it wants balancing. I find a lot of new tyres dont! if its on an alloy I take it the Merc garage near me they will fit my tyers with a good machine, I can sit in the nice showroom and drink free coffee. They did two for me the other day fitted and balancing and replaced a stud that they broke! I had a free B class loan car, during the time they was fixing my car too . Cost £19.99 :-D
