Another Pug in the fleet..

I've just changed jobs, which has also involved moving house, and generally pressing 'restart' on my entire life.

Having sold the Audi 100 - which I now regret, It dawned on me that forcing the 205 to do a 70 mile daily commute for the next month or so isn't going to do it, or me, any favours. So I've been considering using some of the money from the Audi to purchase something more suited to bombing up and down the M1 on a daily basis, although given most of the M1 is a '50' zone, a kubota minitractor would probably do.

An old friend got in touch via faecesbook, and offered me his old car. He's been given a 'new' one as his granddad has given up driving. He didn't want to scrap the old one as it is MOT'd till October and runs pretty good. So for under weigh in money i picked up this:

It's an XUD TD, (sadly a lucas so GR0.1 for veg), it needs a few jobs doing, not least the clonking rear beam replacing, and a damn good clean. But it's a great motorway cruiser and will certainly give better MPG than the rather frenetic 205.

Most of the kit on it seems to work, even the airconditioning, which is a first for any used car i've had. A run back from Coventry where I picked it up yesterday returned around 41 mpg, about double what I'd get from the 205.

The body is battered to fuck, it survived the great hailstorm in Leicester a few years back, that put hundreds of little dents on every panel, it looks like it's got acne scars! It has the usual clicky/seized checkstraps, a rather rusty bonnet, an oddly bent sill and the odd missing bit of trim. Rather than 'rat look' its more 'Rural Gallic'

All in all pretty chuffed with it.

Double yellow lines mean no waiting at any time, unless there are signs that specifically indicate seasonal restrictions. The times at which the restrictions apply for other road markings are shown on nearby plates or on entry signs to controlled parking zones. If no days are shown on the signs, the restrictions are in force every day including Sundays and Bank Holidays.

That's ace. You now have absolutely nothing left in life to prove to anyone else, you've got the lot all in one package.

That's what I tell my kids about my 306 and they don't believe me either.

You've done alright for next-to-nowt.

Will is breaking this one, sadly for you it's a pre-facelift so the bonnet won't fit without changing headlights etc.

Gaffa tape is your friend :)

Rear beam is still on it (brakes gone), shall I check it out for you?

You know where we are.

Yeh, that would be great, I think they are interchangeable between phase 1 and 2, I've to investigate what exactly is wrong with mine, It could be a buggered shocker as the wheels aren't at funny angles which normally denotes that the radius arm bearings are buggered.

What brakes were on it? Mine is drums.

Yeah, I think all diesels were drums, Will robbed the wider drums + bits off this one for his 205 project. It had nice dampers too, he's using them an'all. I'll ask him for more detail on this beam while you check what's up with yours.

Pffft. Everyone knows that doesn't count if you've got two wheels on the pavement.

Joe isn't completely correct, my beam is complete, as standard and generally un-molested. I swapped the shocks off it and it is currently wearing a pair of fairly worn shocks but should still be perfectly useable.

Pre facelift looks well better too, like the front of the 405 T16
