Specialized Hardrock Sport pushbike.

Anyone fancy a pushbike?

As in title, it's a Specialized Hardrock Sport.

Adjustable front suspension.

Many gears, I don't know how many to be exact, but it's got two gear levers.

Disc brakes.

Good tyres.

Bags on the frame holding a puncture repair kit and pump.

Water/drink bottle.

I bought it off of a workmate when I was having a health kick.

The bike had just had a full service when I got it.

I've never used it. I brought it home, put it in my spare room, and that's where it has stayed. It hasn't been outside at all in my ownership.

I have some pics, but they're not very good, but if there's any firm interest, I'll get it outside and take some more.

I've got no idea what to ask for this, so could I be cheeky and ask for offers, please?

Have a look to see what they are selling for on a certain auction site - I cannot bring myself to say it.

The wife's hogging the pc at the mo.

Go on give me a clue.

Age? frame size?

interested. depending on above.  :-)

I'm 60

I'll dig the bike out today and get some pics up.

How do I measure the frame?

It's previous owner is one of our diesel fitters at work.

He's about the same height as me - 6ft 3ins, so it's a full adult size bike.

I've just been on the bay of e looking at these, quite expensive in the same spec, but please bear in mind I'm a shiter, so discount will apply.

The full story. I work with the lad's dad. He's a sport freak. Cycles everywhere, runs, swims etc.etc. In a few weeks time, he's off on the round the world yacht race. He's picking the boat up bin 'Frisco, sailing round the Caribbean, then across to the north Atlantic before returning home.

When I mentioned I was thinking of cycling to work, he told me his boy had a bike for sale as he was emigrating to Canada to work as a diesel fitter out there.

So, he brought the bike in, I rode it round the works car park, paid the dosh and brought it home. I've never used it. I put it in the spare room and that's where it stayed. I'm too old to be biking to work.

It's a well specced bike. The lad I bought it from is single and still living with mum and dad. Money is no object to him. He didn't go to Canada in the end, but bought himself a Scania 141, which he's just had refurbed. Thousands and thousands of pounds.

If he bought himself the Scania with what you gave him for the bike, I'm out.

One of these? £500 for the 2014 model.

What year, colour frame size etc ? The problem with ebay is that a fair number will have been pinched.

I don't really know how old it is to be honest, a couple of years maybe. How do I measure the frame? It looks very similar to the bike pictured. It's in blue and white. I will be digging it out soon, so will be photographed in all its glory.

Frame measurements vary, but try from centre of the pedal crank to the top of the frame where the seat post is secured. I'm not sure on mountain bikes, but my hybrid is measured like this. Of course it may have a sticker on it somewhere too!

Or just stand next to it and measure how far the top of the frame (seat post one again) is from the ground, that would give a good idea of the general size.

Posted

^^ Aye, that's the usual way of measuring them, in inches for mountain bikes, cms for road bikes (don't ask me why). Size stickers tend to be marked S/M/L/XL which isn't really much help IME.

Posted

Yep as above, from the centre of the crank to the top of the down tube, these come in 15", 17", 19" and 21" (poss even a 23" too) and are usually marked with the frame size down on the lower down tube. A pic would be ideal then I could tell you what model year it is. Had  a few Specialized bikes, my brother still has my old Stumpjumper.

Frame is 21 inch.

Wheels are 26 inch.

Any good to anyone?

I gave it a wipe over with a damp sponge, but needs to be cleaned properly and used.

I noticed there are some chips in the paintwork, but if you're that fussy, a few minutes with a fine brush will have it sorted.

Oh, there's a sticker on the frame that says 'enhanced aluminium alloy'.

A bit of detective work on the specialised site puts that frame design and graphics in 2005. It's a size too big for me I'm afraid.

Wow, that'll be a thousand pounds please lol.

No one fancy it?

This site isn't what it used to be lol.

Fairly hard to value exactly because there are so many Specialized bikes out there, indeed they're the world's biggest bike maker now, I'm told.  They're bloody good bikes though, generally well built and solid and command a premium over a lot of the absolute shit out there.

Because it has disc brakes (albeit mechanical, not hydraulic) I'd suggest a Gumtree advert for £150 and hope for somewhere between £100 and your asking price, obviously the closer to it the better.

I've got quite a few mountain bikes here but sadly I seem to find they don't sell quite as well as roadbikes and hybrids, of which I pretty much can't get enough at the moment.

Posted

I'm currently in the market for a mountain bike and that is my size, let me know what you want for it and I'll check the finances.

Posted

Thanks for your input Billy.

If anyone would like it at Billy's lower estimate-£100, that'll do for me. It's going towards the futureshite fund.

Posted

I don't know much about the bike trade but £100 seems very cheap for a half-decent specialised mountain bike thats only a year or two old.

Posted

I would like it but finances are saying no at the moment, If you've still got it in a week or so I'll have it off you.

I'm somewhere between 6'4" and 6'5" depending on my shoes and mood.

If I bought this bike it would be for active dicking about; I have another bike (a 23" frame) which I intend to improve/ruin as a roadbike/ touring kind of thing.

For semi-demanding, quasi off-road, long mileage comfort not-an-issue type riding, do the more bike-savvy folk on here reckon this would be big enough for me?

Genuinely very tempted indeed, and I "have the money".

I'm 6ft 3ins and it seemed fine to me when I rode it.

I'm pretty sure there's some more adjustment in the saddle.

I appreciate it others have dibs on it but I'm also very tempted, albeit in an unsure financial state until next week when some expected unexpected bills come out. If RWUK doesn't have it, and it's Gumtree-bound after all, give me a yell.

I haz grown a pair. You haz PM. In a moment....

Posted

After PM exchanges, let me show my hand as I can't quite offer the package that Tetley needs.

My standing offer is the full asking price, but I can't collect or force crisp readies into his fist in person until the morning of Saturday 15th, solely due to logistics. Which I admit is pathetic of me 'cos I'm only 40 miles away.

However, now the unpleasantness vis-a-vis PayPal ineptitude has been overcome, I can send electroquid down the line immediately as necessary, should Tetley want it.

I guess a cash buyer who can reach Rainham before Sat has every right to intercept the bicycle of dreams.

Free-for-all time.

Posted

I'll take myself out of this equation as it would be after the 15th before I could get down there.

So for that reason, A'm ooot.

Posted

Yes, as unpleasant as it is, cash is king this time.

Any money within sniffing distance of my bank account will be immediately soaked up due to an unforgiving round of bill paying recently, including a bloody tv licence - theiving bastards.

So, if anyone wants it, folding stuff is the only way - sorry.

Ahem, the sooner the better.
