Saw one of these in town the other day. Isn't this the one that is mega rare??

And why so??

Just cos they are absolutely gopping??

Posted

I've seen one or two... they are a rare bird, but I am glad to see them as they are a proper French luxury barge.

I was surprised and highly amused when I saw a Great Wall Steed a few days ago. I shit you not, this was a new Chinese pick-up job. I'd like to tap the panels on that, for sure.

Rare because

1) They are Citroen

2) They cost the GNP of Belgium when new

3) They are a Citroen therefore must cost twice the GDP of Belgium to repair when they go wrong

.... in 2008 I hustled one outta the way, on twisty stuff up near Hawes, Richmond N. Yorks.... I was spanking the Savv like a naughty lass ;)

Cit 'bargee' gave me a 'left indicator free pass'... kind, eh.

never seen another... even in my rear mirror......

Do they have the same reliability prowess* as the Vel Statics??

Posted

They're rather nice. Sadly, I've only been carted around in one as a passenger, but was lovely. Head-up-display and everything.

They don't seem mega-cheap, 2007 models are pushing £5k plus.

Cheaper than a BMW7 admittedly, but it's a Citroen and it'll go wrong.

That long-term test is quite amusing in the amount of niggles like brake sensors, tyre valves and whatever going titsup.

You mean all of the things that should have been perfected by mid-90s!

I noticed that the problem with the valves involved them having to be coded to the car, so it must be some pressure monitoring and radio connection jobbies. Because what a tyre valve needed, was more complexity.

My understanding of everyone apart from Renault and Citroen is that they use the ABS sensors to monitor wheel speeds, and therefore circumference, and can tell when a tyre is low. Mine went off on the Focus at about 18psi.

I remember having a training course for Toshiba Technicians led by a guy who had just bought a new Laguna (this would have been 2004-ish) and he mentioned it was in the dealers to have the tyre pressure monitors sorted out. Every year we went back for retraining, every year we asked about the Laguna, and every year we got a tirade of abuse because the electronics were on the fritz.

Wasn't there one on eBay a few months back which had showed up something like 173 different fault codes when plugged into the dealer's computer?  Scary sh*t.

There's a couple around Norwich, and I see them occasionally.  I like the look of them and would defo roll in one, but only when they're cheap enough that it won't matter if I have to throw it away.

A guy who lives near my old gaff has 2 of them. He told me that the main dealers took one of them away to fix it (he didn't say what). Dealer had it for over a month, then brought it back, declared it totally fucked and it hasn't moved since. So the owner bought another (i.e. the second) one!

Posted

I remember that crippled c6 with all those faults it sold for peanuts (funnily enough)

I'd love one but you'd need to have big coconuts to buy one unless it was mega cheap or had a cast iron warranty.

Posted

They have a concave rear windscreen and are therefore bona fide lob-on material. Defo on my bucket-list of cars that I would like but will never own, like a Rolls Royce Camargue, McLaren F1 and Gary Gableich's Blue Flame rocket car.

Posted

It's not like luxury cars from German brands are paragons of reliability either.

Surely worth this risk once they slip under a grand?

I see them quite a lot. I am drunk, think I started out with a point there but forgot once I had figured out how to type. Sorry.

I don't think they're gopping at all - certainly much more elegant than everything else Citroen has churned out over the last few years.

I'll defo have one when I'm rich and don't have to worry about 173 fault codes all going off at the same time.

This is the biggest Citroen I would ever own, and even this gives me the willies.

It went "bing bing bing" today and I nearly shit myself - fortunately it was the rear door switch warning telling me one of the kids was trying to pen the door at 70....

I had one behind me last week, which for while thought was being driven by a lad in a hoody with it up, to which I would have saluted their bold choice of transportation, but alas it was a mum with a hat on, hmmm.

There are a couple in Portsmouth, and 1 that I regularly see in Chichester, 1 of the Portsmouth ones is dulux emulsion white, I'm sure that the number of those in the UK can probably be counted on 1 hand!

Anyway, like the rest of you, WANT!

I love these, interiors in two tone cream beige are spectacular, but they couldn't give the buggers away new, i delivered them to some of the dealers on my patch and they sat in the showrooms for 6 months, often never moved for the whole time, battery not even charged (that helped the electrics no end), and we picked 'em up and took 'em back to the RDC.

There was a 09 plate for sale recently wth the 2.2 Diesel lump in place of the V6, seriously tempting for a whole 2 seconds cos it came down to only £280 VED.

Been perusing the C6 fanclub whist having breakfast.

What follows are genuine quotes from owners...

I clicked the first link I came to on the website....

Below is a precis of the current 'Safety' recalls on the C6

On attending  the Citroen Stand at Geneva Motor Show with a C6:

Do we really think that Citroen would want to be reminded of their catastrophic investment in such a complex and low-selling model?

the 'C6 is a slightly compromised CX

There seems to be a lot of problems with blocked deisel filters because of:

Bad batch of fuel then Sam?

I know we complain about supermarket fuel. But for it to kill your car?? Really?

Members comment on a thread regarding premature bodywork rust on the C6s -

So - not uncommon then........great! More good news!

Here we go again........

I have owned a lot of cars with brightwork attached, that haven't started to corrode at such a young age

Is this another known 'Characteristic' of the model? A common problem - or is Wiltshire the most corrosive environment in England?

And finally:

I was hoping to love it and enjoy turning a few heads but alas no, its spent more time at the dealers than on the road and only turns heads because of the noisey belt under the bonnet that sounds like a nest of Grasshoppers.

I hired a V6 Diesel Fully Loaded one with just 20 km on the clock at Geneva Airport, somehow getting a free upgrade.  When we pulled into the Euro Camp site we were staying on, the car was surrounded by French Children and their fathers.  It was like we'd arrived from another planet.

Our Friends arrived 2 days later in a battered scenic.

I booked one in Geneva Airport six years ago to this very day and got a bloody C5 on coils.  I'm blaming YOU.

As an ex C6 owner (2006/7) I can wholeheartedly recommend the C6 as long as you are prepared to put up with faults, fault codes and very inadequate dealers. And so we parted company after 6 months and I lost a lot of money in the process so went out and got a C4 Grand Picasso - recalls, repairs and bad dealers means a Citroen warranty is VITAL.

Mecanically all Vel Satis are even worse (except the Nissan engined V6) but that's ok as long as they aren't your main car, you only go t the shops in them and don't ever get them wet.
