danthecapriman Posted February 15, 2014 Posted February 15, 2014 Thought id offer up my Volvo 740.I could do with the space after buying a mighty huge yank tank (which im still waiting for!) and to be honest this isnt seeing much use at the moment and its a bit of a waste just sitting on the drive! Its an 87 E reg saloon, 2.3 GLE auto in fabulous autoshite metallic beige (gold!) Ive had it since 2006 and never had any problems. It starts, goes and stops perfectly and looks decent aswell! Mileage about 182K which is sod all on these! Good stuff:New MOT! Didnt need anything major. I changed the rear fog switch as that broke a few days before the test and one of the front brakes needed a clean out. Thats all ok now. Taxed until end of March 14 so can be driven away and used. Clean + tidy inside - black leather seats. Electrics/gauges seem generally ok, fuel gauge works which is normally a problem on these. Heater is awsome, works well and gets warm quickly so gr8 for winter. Tidy bodywork, some stone chips and very minor dings. About 3 yrs ago I had the whole roof resprayed to sort a patch of peeling laquer! There was a small patch of rust on the bulkhead below the brake servo, but last year I stripped the interior etc out, cut out the rot (approx size of 50p coin) and welded it all up and painted it so its been done properly and looks ok. I changed the heater control valve for a new bosch one as the old one leaked, new antifreeze at same time. Carpets were wet vaxed to get rid of the anti freeze that leaked out of the old heater valve! New front brake pads and calipers about 2 yrs ago. Anti roll bar bushes and link pins changed about a year ago. Exhaust has all been changed over the last couple of years. Tyres (on original alloys) are all very good, (3 are brand name - perelli + dunlop) loads of tread and no damage. Engine is excellent, pulls well, no smoke or odd noises (its an injection K jet jobbie) Servced regularly. The auto box is spot on, very smoothe, oil still nice and clean, changes gears ok. Recent(ish) starter motor. Recent(ish) battery, which is bosch. Tow bar, ive never used it but it looks ok. Its had loads of other bits and pieces done over the years, loads of receipts, old mots etc. All paperwork is present and in order. Its good for its age and it hasnt been messed around with either, theres no holes cut for speakers etc, its even still got one of those old tape decks with the handle on the front to pull out the whole radio for security 80s style! Bad stuff:Headlining isnt good! its sagging and ripped a bit under the drivers sunvisor. Its been stapled at the front to stop the foam falling out onto the dash and ive used drawing pins to hold the back part up so you can see out the back window! Its not that offensive unless you look at it and its still better than having nothing imho! Drivers seat leather is noticably more worn than the others but not ripped etc. A couple of the dash back lights dont work, but theres still enough working ones to see gauges etc at night! Dash top has a crack or two in it from the sun, no big deal really but its there. Rear screen has a crack across one bottom corner, doesnt interfere with the view out back though. This ones got air con but it doesnt work, no idea why but all the bits are still in the car if you can be arsed playing around with it. Front fogs dont work, probably just the bulbs but again its not something ive looked into yet. This is a great car, its ideal for every day use and still old enough to be interesting and shite enough for us lot! I used to use it daily for work but having a company van means it just hasnt been used much over the last few years. That said its still my car of choice for running around. It did a trip to wales and back from the south coast just before xmas and it was fine. No pics yet but ill take some tomorrow if the weather stops pissing down for long enough!I also plan to do the engine oil and filter change tomorrow aswell. The car is located 10ish miles north of Portsmouth (Just off A3) Im looking for £400ono for it.I really like this old barge and id rather keep it than see it get ruined. But ideally id really like to see it go to a good home and see it get used aswell! If your interested post up on here or pm me.
HMC Posted February 15, 2014 Posted February 15, 2014 Sounds like you've looked after it well! The colour combo sounds great, the saloons seem toget rarer by the day. Had I not recently got involved with a rusty French wagon I'd be pm ing you about this. GLWTS
overrun Posted February 15, 2014 Posted February 15, 2014 This almost ticks all of Barry Shitpeas' requirements, which are listed below: £400 or less
cms206 Posted February 16, 2014 Posted February 16, 2014 Metallic gold... I have a blue bootlid for a saloon... COUNCIL SALOON FTW. Pictures? Spiny Norman, rml2345, eddyramrod and 3 others 6
rml2345 Posted February 16, 2014 Posted February 16, 2014 This sounds ripe for a shagpile headlining converson... aldo135, Spiny Norman and cms206 3
danthecapriman Posted February 16, 2014 Author Posted February 16, 2014 Pics as promised! Shite dealership badge! I did an oil and filter change this morning aswell since I already had the parts, all the other service bits were changed last service (Jan last year) and its only done about 2k since so they are all like new still!Washed and hoovered it aswell! drum, Junkman and Shep Shepherd 3
cms206 Posted February 16, 2014 Posted February 16, 2014 My god, that is a thing of beauty. If someone would like to rehome one of my current sheds I'd be all over this like a man who's about to lose his testicles for even considering adding a fifth Volvo to the driveway. aldo135 1
barrett Posted February 16, 2014 Posted February 16, 2014 Oh my god, I cannot stop looking at this thing. I did some 'business miles' in Gary's estate the other day and it is hands down the most capable, comfortable, relaxing, refined car I have ever driven. This is a great colour combo/spec and looks like a seriously nice car. And it's cheap and not too far away. I don't think I have any money, but if by some miracle I can scrape together the readies and get this insured for a normal amount then I am liable to do something stupid sensible cms206 1
Lord Sterling Posted February 17, 2014 Posted February 17, 2014 Right, thats it. I'm coming off Autoshite until I make some decent money to play with. There are simply too many tempting cars on here right now. Being penniless, liking big cars and being relegated to driving a little car that gets constantly bullied on the roads isn't helping.
danthecapriman Posted March 25, 2014 Author Posted March 25, 2014 Bump! This is still available if anyones bothered. Price reduced to £400 ono. And to sweeten the deal ive just taxed it for a year aswell! Tax until end March 15! eddyramrod 1
Sigmund Fraud Posted March 25, 2014 Posted March 25, 2014 Crikey, £400 with a year's rent makes this a proper bargain ! Can someone buy it, please ? The temptation is too big !!!
cms206 Posted March 25, 2014 Posted March 25, 2014 FUCKING NORAH! I don't even want to think how far away Portsmouth is... I'm also afraid to look at my bank balance what with two Volvos and a Senator having left in the past fortnight.£400... christ...
rml2345 Posted March 25, 2014 Posted March 25, 2014 ARGH! I'd forgotten about this one so bought Eddy's instead. MUST. NOT. OWN. TWO. VOLVOS. eddyramrod 1
Shep Shepherd Posted March 25, 2014 Posted March 25, 2014 I quite fancy this, but I already have two Volvos...
Tetleysmooth Posted March 26, 2014 Posted March 26, 2014 If I hadn't just bought a 940, I'd seriously consider this.Almost a year's test and a year's rent for the piffling sum of 400 smackers, and ono to boot. eddyramrod 1
dollywobbler Posted March 26, 2014 Posted March 26, 2014 Sadly Mrs Wobbler just isn't as excited about this bargain as I am, though she did concede that it is excellent value!
Slappy Posted March 26, 2014 Posted March 26, 2014 Lovely Ovlov... Ridiculously tempting price... I live in Portsmouth... but I have a pending house move, and I think Executive Management will give me grumpy face, so I'm oooot. Hope it stays local though to keep the Scotland v rest of the UK balance sort of healthy . GLWTS etc
danthecapriman Posted March 27, 2014 Author Posted March 27, 2014 Thanks for the kind words gents. Cant believe theres been no takers tbh! Its a lovely car, especially at the money and it literally needs nothing for a whole year!Funnily enough the last two ovlovs ive tried to sell were an absolute nightmare to shift on aswell.
panhard65 Posted March 28, 2014 Posted March 28, 2014 I do like this and would be an interesting replacement for the Renault 25 but unfortunately no one seems to want to buy it and my lack of parking means I can't have anymore cars without getting rid of some.
danthecapriman Posted March 28, 2014 Author Posted March 28, 2014 Must be more of a sign of the times I think, people don't like big old luxo barges anymore. The fools!
solid61 Posted March 28, 2014 Posted March 28, 2014 I don't usually comment on car sales issues but the road tax is 220 the car is worth 150 ish scrap and you are asking 400 quid,so you could say its being given away,i see the reason for the lack of interest is the price of petrol, just a sign of the times that we have to thank all the do gooder, green issue, save the polar bear brigade for the cost of using a lovely old car like the Volvo and so many others,BASTARDS.
