SAEV the Red Rangey of SHAEM - Now SOALD

I bought this fine piece of chod from the estimable Red5 last March, I think it was.  It gave me splendid service until the autumn, and more than paid for itself by hauling and towing assorted shit up and down the country, only exploding once (rad hose) on the way, as well as making me the envy of the County Set.

Sadly, owing to my shameful neglect of the standard getting underneath with a paintbrush and a bucket of chipfat drills, it can haz OMGMOTFAEL.  I CBA/cannot afford to get the weldage done.  Local bloke who welds stuff says it would take him too long to be economical, but some of you guys have bloke skills wot I possesseth not.   Also failed on some steering gaiter splittage and other such car wank.  I could bridge it, or part it out (powdered coated wheels and tailgate alone poss worth some wong), or put it on eBay, but I fear the inevitable Wave of Tosspots that doing so would inspire.

Anyone interested?    There's a bit of  tax on it (not much - but CBA to send disc back, and it is still on my classic group policy).  Would need lowloader.  Presently located in a shallow puddle of liquid agrislurry at a 4x4 place near Watlington, Oxon.

I fitted a new steering damper, new battery (needs to be secured), and some other bits and bobs that I have forgotten about.  All panels a bit scuffed.  Engine seems fine, given the high mileage (over 140K).  Uses a bit of coolant, but so what?   No thermostat fitted, but one in the boot.  Autobox seems OK in both ratios, as far as I can tell, but I know feck about cars.    18 mpg doable if you don't go mentalist.  Sits up well on its springs.  Tyres are OK ish - two Contis and two Falkens.   Spare wheel (silver, not red) very spiffy, spare tyre seems OK but have not scrutinised closely.

Interior = WORLD OF VELOUR .  Good nick save for mild wear on driver's OS bolster.  Carpets = good enough for Dusty Springfield to munch on.  Headlining = Great Aunt Ethel's knickers around her ankles.  Bonus "Hey, I'm in a tent" experience for rear passengers.  Elec sunroof = BROKKEN (tilts, won't slide).  Elecky windows =  work sometimes, mostly.  POWAH steering seems fine.

Front and rear "Range Rover" lettering and rear green Landy oval added ineptly since photos taken.    Spares include a whole bonnet (in metallic green), a rear wiper, and possibly some other shiz, if I can find where I put it.   Paperwork and history - almost nil, but owner's manual and workshop manual come wiff.

Best feature:  completely and totally, utterly RED

Worst feature: completely and totally, utterly RED

Is it too cheeky to suggest, er, 500 quid?    That's what I paid Red5 for it, and then it had an MoT, but I have put a few quid into it, and if repaired it could be worth a decent four figure wedge.  Even if you break it you may get Zlotys for the wheels, tailgate, and perhaps some TVR twonk will want to bumrape some of the engine bits.  Anyway, over to yous.

Two of the photos below belong to Red5.    Egregious Copyright THEFT entirely intended.  It hasn't changed much since those shots were taken

Used to scrub up well, thanks to the local Romanian car wash dudes, but is now covered in a protective layer of badger shit.

I would have definitley bought this if it was a dark coloured, petrol engined, late 90's French saloon.

Shame none of those come up for sale on this crap site full of brasic dreamers.

If red5 doesn't want it back, can I be next in the queue, could pick up immediately if it's running ok and still got tax in the window. The redness of this has even convinced my kids to buy this for my 50th next month.

Meanwhole,  OMG AUROSHITE BIDDING WHORE

I am back from the pub, but have to eat lunch and then return beloved daughter to Norfolk via Lancia of questionably low oil pressure.  Updates late from a hard shoulder somewhere near Royston, Herts.

The battery did indeed go flat once, as I left the radio on, or summat, but the little Peg 205 started up the 97 litre Rangey no worries.   The Rangey has been used a lot for jumping assorted other sheds, and towed my old Murena up the hill after I totally broke it through being a dick, and the Lancia after it OMGHGFed.  Red Cross Rangey.

Made it back from the lands of the six fingered sister-shaggers, but am now too knacked/PTSD to reply to kind emails or post up the MOTPHAIL scan.  Will do tomorrow.

BTW, the Rangey, despite its age and heft, is still PHAST as PHUQUE when you want it to be.  Indeed, so nippy is it that it enabled me to spend an afternoon in an airless room at the Hotel Beige Express, High Wycombe, listening to a cheery and well informed ex cozzer being heckled by MR ANGRY WHY DON'T YOU CATCH SOME REAL CRIMINALS IT'S ALL A RACKET VOTE UKIP Tosser. At least there was a good bevy of MILFs and Cougars in the back row.

i HAV PAID MY LECON 2 SOCITY AND I HAV THE SKIDMARKS 2 PROVE IT

There is a tonne of old Rangie weld-a-thon threads out there, so if any willing welders on here are contemplating buying this but are a bit concerned about what they might be getting into, don't worry too much as I would guarantee there will be a gazillions pics and vids of exactly what you need to do.

I wish mine had velour rather than leather at the moment, it's bloody freezing in the mornings and the heated seats obviously dont work.

Repair panels are available for most of the welding on RRC's.

I remember a soft dash was in at my local garage for an MOT last year, it needed a bit of welding near the drivers seat belt mount, or something. He found good metal to weld to just behind the headlamp.

unfortunately I cant buy it ive got no room plus ive already got one but to anybody interested its worth investing in as their values are going up all the time

That is a very nice 80's example.

welding wise - they all need it!

Suggest you bung a free add in Classic Landrover, there is a lot of chat about classic rangies at the moment in the LR press

The interior looks gr9 and that is often an issue with these.

might be worth an ad on landyZone as will

If I could afford to drive one of these more than 10 miles a month I would have one

To be a viable motor it needs an LPG conversion and that will cost about a grand to do properly with tanks under the body rather than in the boot.

this means it needs a project buyer with deep pockets.

If you do break it, remember that the V8 goes for £500

LPG is RUBIHS and tanks underneath shagger the ground clearance and prevent you from parking yer Caterham undeneath when it rains.

V8.  Much waft.  Many petrol.  Strong goodness.  Mmmmmmm

Without sounding like a mong, what is the mpg of this fine beast?

I'd get my bollocks removed swiftly though if I dared bring it home!

My 3.9 efi RRC got 18mpg on petrol and 14mpg on gas.

Having lpg doesn't make them cheap to run, just less horrendous.

18 mpg if you are careful.  Minus 97 mpg  if towing or driving like a knob.

Better off dropping an n/a XUD lump in it.

Some of yous are missing the point of V8 POWAAAAAAAAA.      Petrol, Schmetrol.   MPG not an issue when broken down = solution of Win.
