vulgalour Posted March 21, 2014 Author Posted March 21, 2014 A very busy week for me both in and out of work leaving me little time to think. The suggestions this week has been the toughest batch yet to choose from, good work on that one. Happily, progress on commissioned work has been fairly good and I'm now open once again to taking new commissions on as a result. Here's what this week has been all about so far. Suzuki Alto - Commissioned ink Give me mundane little hatchbacks over bedroom poster cars any day of the week, this was a delight to draw up. Renault Alpine - Commission ink More into the bedroom poster territory with this one but don't let that fool you into thinking I didn't enjoy working on it. A good solid idea from the customer, clear reference images and a car that has surprisingly pleasant lines to work on made for a very enjoyable piece. Hillman Minx - Commissioned ink & watercolourIt's shiter Mr_Livered in his shabby chic Hillman. I was surprised just how blue the shade of grey is on the Hillman when it came to colouring this, not at all the flat primer shade I had expected. Partridge, fordperv, Angrydicky and 4 others 7
vulgalour Posted March 28, 2014 Author Posted March 28, 2014 Suggestion Friday is cancelled this week, as it was last week, due to workload. But here's the one that was due last from last time and it was a very, very difficult decision to make given the high quality of suggestions offered. Alvis Stalwart - SOLD Tried a slightly different inking style, something a bit looser and more comic book. WOOP WOOP WOOP, that's the sound the Stalwart police riot amphithingy makes. fordperv, Uncle Jimmy, eddyramrod and 2 others 5
Guest Cerbsp6 Posted March 29, 2014 Posted March 29, 2014 Angyl, We've crossed paths previously on Retrorides, talking Princesses (unsurprisingly) - would just like to say that I really rate your drawings, as others have said they seem to be improving each time, particularly liked the bubble car and lady, Saab and Mini Clubman. My particular preference is not very Autoshite, but likewise would be a nice thing to draw, how about adding a TVR Cerbera to your list? Cheers, Andy M (Cerbsp6)
vulgalour Posted March 29, 2014 Author Posted March 29, 2014 Autoshite don't do supercars, but if they did, they'd probably all be TVRs. morris_ital_lover, eddyramrod and inconsistant 3
vulgalour Posted April 2, 2014 Author Posted April 2, 2014 Balloon Bunnies - SOLD So it's not car stuff and it doesn't make any sense, but I'm posting this here because reasons. Also someone might want to buy it and that would be neat. Also, also, I like it and that's all the reason I need to do anything. KruJoe, Sloth in a bowl, eddyramrod and 2 others 5
KruJoe Posted April 2, 2014 Posted April 2, 2014 It makes sense to me. Very, very good.Less is, most definitely, more. vulgalour 1
Skizzer Posted April 2, 2014 Posted April 2, 2014 Blimey, it's a long lost Jefferson Airplane album cover. Great ink work, especially on the rabbits and the tree (no really, I mean it). bub2006, Sigmund Fraud and vulgalour 3
rml2345 Posted April 3, 2014 Posted April 3, 2014 I like the balloon bunnies, it's got a whimsical surrealist vibe about it.The Southdown Leopard above is a Plaxton Panorama Elite with a Supreme IV front on it. Bodging later fronts onto earlier bodies is something of a coach operating tradition although that one looks like it's been repanelled too, hence the rubber mouldings.I'll grab my anorak on the way out. vulgalour 1
vulgalour Posted April 3, 2014 Author Posted April 3, 2014 I love the coach mentality of just putting a new face on an ancient machine, they still do it now and most people aren't even aware of it.
PhilA Posted April 3, 2014 Posted April 3, 2014 I wonder if they upgraded it's behind also.. I only ever remember those with the "mk1 Transit" style tail lights... investigation shows Ford Falcom/Galaxie style dished lights on the back of some. I know which I prefer --Phil
vulgalour Posted April 3, 2014 Author Posted April 3, 2014 Ford Escort XR3i - £40 inc. P&P Just an original in watercolour and ink of a car I needn't say anything about because it's a Ford hot hatch. Essex V6, morris_ital_lover, derskine and 2 others 5
Station Posted April 3, 2014 Posted April 3, 2014 The art is really coming along, it looks about 5001 times better than six months ago! dugong 1
vulgalour Posted April 3, 2014 Author Posted April 3, 2014 Practice makes... well, not perfect, but better at least. eddyramrod and Micrashed 2
Micrashed Posted April 3, 2014 Posted April 3, 2014 Anytime you feel like doing it I wouldnt mind a "montage" picture of this manky Mk1 Fiesta in a sort of metallic red (reg RRN 332T)and this miniMetro 1.3LMine and the Missuses cars when we met, courted and married. I'll let you contact me by PM and sort out the finer details. No rush.
vulgalour Posted April 3, 2014 Author Posted April 3, 2014 Tiny eighties hatchback montAAAAAAAAge~ PM incoming shortly. Micrashed 1
phil_lihp Posted April 3, 2014 Posted April 3, 2014 That Escort looks superb, they're getting better all the time
Station Posted April 4, 2014 Posted April 4, 2014 Is that Escort being haunted by the ghost of a Princess? Or maybe an artistic picture where the Escort is being oppressed by the memories of an Austin Princess that he accidentally killed in a tragic accident, and the image is illustrating that (like they do in those rubbish women's tragedy magazines)? vulgalour Posted May 8, 2014 Author Posted May 8, 2014 I'm about to move house... hopefully. With this in mind I'm making a start on a commission drive and will welcome any and all new work at the usual prices: £10 sketch, £20 ink, £40 ink & colour, £50 watercolour only all at A4 size. BUT WAIT THERE'S MORE I'm going to put some pictures together from the sketch book that will be at special reduced rates because I've already started them so if something takes your fancy it's a great way to scab some art for cheap off me. To kick things off, here's that Riley I started ages ago, now parked on a suburban driveway in front of one of those garages that seemed to be on every well-to-do drive when I was growing up. Prices include P&P to wherever you are. £7 As is£15 Inked£25 Ink and Colour£35 Watercolour onlyMinor alterations and tidying is possible at no extra cost. Payment by Paypal for preference but I do accept other methods too. Lacquer Peel, fordperv, eddyramrod and 1 other 4
Micrashed Posted May 8, 2014 Posted May 8, 2014 God almighty I had forgotten about this. Sorry.Plan B I think - the house with both cars. BRB, VA.
vulgalour Posted May 8, 2014 Author Posted May 8, 2014 I should have chased you up... I'm just about back on track again lately so... yeah.
vulgalour Posted May 8, 2014 Author Posted May 8, 2014 Here's another for your delectation, a 1959 Chevrolet Impala with bonus Impalas (can be removed, if required) in the foreground. Background can be changed completely on this one at no extra cost. £7 As is£15 Inked£25 Ink and Colour£35 Watercolour only eddyramrod and fordperv 2
vulgalour Posted May 11, 2014 Author Posted May 11, 2014 Got a bit of insomnia going on so I put it to good use and experimented with an inking method I've toyed with in the past, turned out fairly well this time around. Modified hearses are not going to be to everyone's taste, but I did this far more for me than for any sort of popularity vote. £10 posted, if you'd like it for your very own. Too much sentimental value, no longer for sale. eddyramrod, phil_lihp and fordperv 3
MikeKnight Posted May 11, 2014 Posted May 11, 2014 Whoa, I really like that technique! Makes it "pop". I think it suits your art style very well, too.
vulgalour Posted May 11, 2014 Author Posted May 11, 2014 I can, though I haven't any examples as my last request for a person portrait was back in 2009. There's also the Bubblecars lady if you go back a few pages for an idea of what I can do now.
vulgalour Posted July 7, 2014 Author Posted July 7, 2014 Been a while since I updated here, but I'm catching up again and I have a few pieces that will be appearing here over the next few weeks. I'm cancelling Suggestion Friday until I'm properly caught up and resettled. I like making artwork for people that has a bit of a story behind it, makes it more enjoyable than plain portraits. That's part of what made this piece for Micrashed enjoyable, that and him being a thoroughly good egg putting up with my delays while my world got tipped upside down recently. Enjoy the Nineties vibe with this image of surburban bliss. Angrydicky, Micrashed and michael t 3
