The sixties 2CV in this sale is a proper honey. Will be interesting to see what it makes.

£5600 ... I didn't think it was that great, there were crusty bits under the paintwork in places.

I've that Saad pop up a few times over the Web, i'm guessing skywards of £3000?

£5600 ... I didn't think it was that great, there were crusty bits under the paintwork in places.

That sounds about right money-wise. Shame about the grot. Still seemed very tidy when I saw it last July, though I hadn't seen it close up for a couple of years.

Posted

you're going in the right direction with the guesses but still a bit short.

Posted

I'll put you all out of your misery, it sold for £6200.

I don't know anything about Saabs, do these sell for big money restored then? it seems feckin pricey to me.

Posted

That was a lot of money for that 99.  Even good ones with T&T struggle to make that.  Mind you, it was an OMGBARNFIND, which immediately tripled its value.  There were several mild expletives muttered by myself and people around me when the hammer came down on that one.

The 190SL was beautiful, but it wouldn't run.  They got it running briefly by squirting petrol from a spray can directly into the intake, but it died after that and wouldn't start again, despite a bloke using his catalogue over the air intake pipe as an impromptu choke.

What did the 900 T16S make?  I'd left by the time that went through.

Is that bonnet correct for a '60s car?  Looked a bit new to me.

£1350

I thought it was a ridiculous price for that barn find. Did you see the merc 300ce 24v? It said it was a very high spec model but it didn't look any different to the one I had and it sold for 5.5k.

£1350

Glad I didn't stay then.  It did look tempting at its £600-800 estimate, but I had a feeling it'd go for more as most stuff seemed to be going a bit mental.

That W124 koop did look nice (although wouldn't have been my first choice of colour), but deffo not five and a half grand's worth of nice.  I'd have seen that at about £1500-£2K myself.

Or sprayed down with a garden water sprayer and covered in flour for instant "barn find " added tax

Not the most expensive car to be sold, but this Merc 190 SL went for £58 000

£6000 seems totally mental for that Saab, I would have rated it at a grand or so

Posted

At the prices realised, it would seem to be the place to sell, not buy. The minimum buyer`s commission is £100, so even on a £1000 purchase, you have another 10% to find. Not good.

I thought I'd add my own poorly taken images.

The BMW 316i auto that I actually registered to bid on. Not for £1950 though

The Quattroporte with the greatest interior I've seen in a long while. The pictures do not do it justice, it looked like dolphin sick. The pièce de résistance however was the 'wood' trim. I am not joking when I say it was so cheap it would have looked out of place glued to a Bontempi organ.

More shots of the Datsun interior. I have to be honest, I loved it.

That's why I'm thinking about putting one or two of my motors through for the next auction.

What I couldn't believe either was the number of cars that (after reaching a higher price than I would have thought) still hadn't sold because the reserve wasn't met.

Posted

The last classic car auction I went to the prices were laughable. Most of the cars went for prices that'd make it into the ebay bargains thread.
