Toy commie cars at Poundland

I got two each of the green Lada, Volga ambulance and the red RAF fire van.  I keep an eye on Barrow Poundland in the hope of some more of the green Ladas, and anything else that hasn't appeared here yet.  I'd really love a Chaika!

The massive one in the Manchester Arndale didn't have anything. I might blezz down to the one in Wythenshawe tomorrow and see what the craic is.

Whole binful in the Maidstone (Week St) shop as of yesterday morning. Yes there do seem to be tons of these about if they were destined for partworks.

 

Thanks Skoda_fan, and thanks for RedSparrow for alerting me to this post. I'd searched in Poundland 3 times already, although I was scouting the wrong store - the classy people of Maidstone demanded 2 Poundlands, and I'd forgotten about the newer larger store. I found the bin and picked up one of each.

They seem to nearly-always be in a random basket, but in my local branch it gets moved around the store quite a bit.  I'm dedicated enough to go looking for it!  Wonder where it'll be when I get there tomorrow morning?

Glad you found 'em, Alexg. Really can't fathom their selling strategy with these. I found another two randomly in the Worthing shop yesterday. They seem to appear in there in dribs n drabs. I felt compelled to grab 'em, even though they're duplicates.

I was at the Donington Park Toy Fair yesterday... A bloke there had boxes and boxes of these for £1 each... maybe he'll be at the NEC toyfair next month ?

The Lada Rivas all sold well by the looks, I got mine complete with the mags from Latvia for just over a tenner each.

I think they're only cars from the USSR proper, not the satellite states.

RS: yes, I believe you're correct there, but I do know that some of the other states have been subjected to these partworks.  I have a Peugeot 404 taxi from the Greek-Cypriot edition, including magazine!    So, if the market is/was awash with the Russian castoffs, maybe some of the rest will filter in too.  We can hope.

The Rivas are superb, and to be honest I really do doubt they will turn up at Poundland, and I have a feeling supplies have already just about run dry for what they have. The Skoda & FSO's were in a different series to the Russian stuff, and have been on ebay before now, but at around £12 each plus post. I have the Altaya cars of the 80s' Spanish edition of the same Skoda casting, and its nice, but not quite as good as an Abrex

Dunno if anyone's interested but there's a shop in town that sells models of basically every Czechoslovakia vehicle made.

Various sizes, from KC250 (£7.00) upwards.

I'm sure you can probably get them of ebay though.

Nothing in Tonbridge. A bit of googling suggests that these first appeared on the shelves as far back as June! I bet I've missed out on the real good stuff.

Crewe still have a couple of boxes worth, depending on who you talk to.

 

Retrogeezer and I have been told different stories. I went in last week and spoke to a very helpful member of staff who said they had three boxes left in the back. What they had out was hidden behind other items.

The lady also mentioned that they were getting more in, and that they'd had 'cages' full of them at one point, many of which had been purchased by the box-load [by who she presumed were collectors or eBay sellers].

Simon went in the next day and was told everything left was out on the floor. He text me today telling me that others had been put out since his last visit [like a stock of silver Lada 112 police cars].

Altrincham, Urmston and Wythenshawe are all out of stock - and it seems many stores didn't keep them with the toys because of an age restriction on loose parts.

Update: the bin in Poundland, St. James Centre, Edinburgh has been replenished with some more cars and a selection of vans. I've bought a Volga taxi with a red roof, a Volga estate car ambulance thing and an original-style Moskvitch which has a very large loudspeaker on the roof. I didn't buy any vans because I only really collect cars and have a lot of toys and am running out of space. Or so I'm told.

There's a basket at the back of Poundland Stockport - been in today and got a yellow Volga taxi, Lada police car, Volga police car and the orange Moskvitch/IZH van.

 

They had a fair few yellow Volga taxis, a lot of Podeba taxis, a lot of Volga and Lada 2112 police cars, a couple of RAF fire vans, an UAZ carpet van (and the police one too), a lot of the old GAZ fire engine and snow plough things, one or two Lada police cars (but one had a broken wheel), and one or two UAZ jeeps.
