Shite Campers?

Recommended Posts

I had a search, and considering the number of skilled engineers here, I'm surprised that this one hasn't come up more often - is it taboo? ;-)

I'm also lead to believe that Jaywick is place of some repute here in the forums… perhaps a shite weekender sometime? We could go to the market* ?

Just in case its a valid autoshite topic, I contribute my ex-Parcelforce, brush-repainted, 1.5 times re-engined, 1 replaced gearbox, 6 new-ish tyres, rewired, king of all vans:  Iveco 35.10 XLB…. <exits to chorus of hilarity>

So so so so close to buying either a Talbot Express Camper or a Ford Transit MK1, or a Starcraft.

So close!

May wait until the successful completion of my welding course early next year, then I can buy a rotten one, because rotten means cheap, and I'm a cheap kinda guy :)

^^^ That's a rather heroic choice of vehicle, although for ultimate WIN it should still be in full ParcelForce livery. Oh, and Frinton pwns Jaywick.

I'm seriously considering a reverse-conversion, starting with a camper and ending up with a van. It would be more affordable after selling off all the fittings, and it currently seems to be the only way to get a nineties-era van that's not battered to f**k.

Oh, and Frinton pwns Jaywick.

Not sure whether I understand the pun, but this Frinton looks rather adequate for a Rover V8 owner?

Whereas Jaywick looks more suitable for the 4 cylinder variety.

[O/T] To be fair, I haven't visited either place for many many moons, but I have enduring memories of being dragged along to Frinton by Mutha_ & Fatha_Duke when I was about 15. At the time, there were no licensed establishments there, which apparently gave it a "fantastic atmosphere". During my visits, the town's average age would have dropped by a good few years. Although in fairness, I discovered that the local charity shops, once you'd finished gagging from the smell, were an excellent source of flared suits in varying shades of brown & beige, one of which I wrung another decade of use from. Thread hijack in progress.  I is from West Clacton (as it's called by we locals who don't want to say Jaywick) an the roads are named after yer classic  Autoshite cars - spend a mo on yer streetview and discover why it's the most deprived place in yer Britain. Frinton has been,  slightly, dragged into the 20th century with a bit of booze and takeways but is still very beige.

Marina Suntor, Bedford CA, Commer 3/4 ton. The last two especially if they are still equipped with their car-derived engines and column change.

Aaah, a Q plate, always fancied one of those. Are those Marina door handles perhaps?

Haven't seen one of these shape Iveco vans in ages. Mind you if the newer X reg shape Iveco that I used to have to drive is anything to go by then I know why!

My Grandad has a 1972 Ford Transit Camper that has been rotting away for the last 30ish years. He brought it brand new from Bristol Street Motors in Birmingham as a van to rebuild his house with then when that was done it was converted into a camper van. Don't have any pics of it but it's still there, he never part with it despite the fact he never do anything with it. Shame really as he brought a lot of panels in the 80's to restore it. Then he stripped the front panels off then left it for some reason. EOM***L is the part of the reg I can remember oh and its a short wheelbase model in white/rust/mould now.

If I ever get the chance to go in the garden then I get some pics but that could be some time/years before I do.

I lust after a C plate CF2 van that my steam engine owning mate has lying around. He was considering swapping the pez engine out of that and putting it in his diesel flat bed one. I try and prise the van out of his hands every couple of months but he always resists. I will succeed as I was to make it into a camper type thing but not full on (if you know what I mean). I want to put leather Rover 45 seats in it and stuff. He is stubborn but I am more stubborner.

As found on most high-end campers...

Dodge 50 perkins diesel (veg friendly). He bought it with a flat back, found an old caravan of roughly the right length, bolted it on and roller painted the lot nato green.

I love this truck.

I saw a mad thing tonight in the car park of the hospital in Kirkcaldy. Was on a call, and didn't get back to take a pic, but found one on images. Had no idea they exsisted!

You've all seen it before but reposted for the sake of completeness.  Probably more shit than shite in the views of most around here and currently broken.

On the plus side (from a shiteist viewpoint) it's got an unusual SYRO camper convertion that the VW mob usually just bin in favour of a sunroof and the type 4 engine that garages will bin in favour of a type 1 when it goes wrong.

Yes that sill does have a lot of wob in it but there is metal underneath, unlike the front wheelarch which is mostly fibreglass.

I'm clearly never going to own that, so I may as well just top myself right now. I don't think the gaping void in my life could ever be completely filled by anything else.
