Cheers dude, it's the kit lense (18-55) so I'd assume not really remarkable in any way, I was drunk when I bought the thing which is my excuse.

I'd always assumed all lenses were varifocals and to keep focus you were doing some double handed opposite twist mechanism type thing (like a girl I once knew) so this parfocal idea sounds pretty handy. My budget is about £25 so I'd guess that I'm shit outta luck.

The D3200 doesn't AF automatically when you shoot video. However, you can make it AF motion track by half-pressing the shutter button down in video mode. This will kick an AF cycle in and should allow you to zoom in and out while maintaining focus. Your 18-55 will be able to do this, as it's parfocal (I checked).

You'll need to choose what subject you want the camera to track with the green square that appears. Move it around, select what you want and hit OK.

It will be a NOISY bugger though, so if you want to shoot something serious you'll need to use an off body mic (the tiny little pin hole is the element for the mic near the D3200 badge).

Actually, I'm quite envious of your camera, sir. You can shoot in 1080p at 24 and 30 fps, you utter git. H264 codec isn't bad either.

Yup, most of what I've read states that zooming and maintaining focus is a bit of a PITA on a DSLR. Which is why folk try other tricks - like changing the focus without zoom - demonstrated very nicely in Dugong's video on the spanners and stuff. Lovely effect. A cheat is to cut to a still photo and use the video software to zoom in. Bodgetastic!

Did that with a prime lens, Ian. The Trojan bubble car zoom out was done on the 28-105.

Bugger me, as simple as that. It works too! Thanks man! It is noisy as sash but I'd pretty much assumed that to get anywhere near decent audio I'd need a proper mic, but I was somewhat pleasantly surprised by the internal one.

The mics are pretty good, but you're better off using a solid state recorder and an XLR on a boom with a [directional] shotgun mic. The DR-100 you see here has two XLR inputs on the back and phantom power if you want to start using condensor mics like some kind of sad chop.

You can mount the solid state recorder to the camera on the hot shoe mount:

I had to go for a fairly expensive Manfrotto job because the other ones were incredibly flimsy.

It was suggested we put all our videos in one place. Seems sensible. Here goes.

A lap of the ring in my Alfa 166 3.0 auto (sadly, now gone). Not the fastest lap ever but surprisingly capable for a badermatic luxo barge (and it does sound nice!)

The Alfa sounds bloody fantastic!

You took some nice lines through the corners, had you been before? IMO it's best enjoyed not pushing too hard as it gets quite expensive if you stuff it and the authorities get involved, recovery etc, taking aside whatever you do to the car itself

Only been to the ring once before and that was in my MX5 but with sticky tyres and race pads. Did have a baptism of fire though as my first couple of laps of the ring were in the pissing rain on semi slicks! I had done a few trackdays previously though, mainly at Cadwell Park as it's just down the road from me.

I had no intention of pushing hard there... just too risky on a tourist day. I am going to do a proper trackday there when I get my Datsun 510 back into shape.

Brilliant clip Ratdat.  What sort of speeds were you getting up to?

I honestly have no idea as I wasn't looking anywhere other than ahead or mirrors! You have to be on your toes on there on a tourist day due to there being some crazy fast stuff, bikers etc.

I did get 155mph out of it on the autobahn on the way home though!

^ I love these films, great stuff DW.  Just had a chuckle at your 2CV green laning exploits as well  :-D

Yes, I don't learn. I almost got stuck in the BX too. The exhaust sags a bit, and was starting to scrape, so I performed a hasty three-point turn, but ran out of traction. Got moving again thankfully! I have no plans to go laning in the Sirion...
