Righto, advice needed.

I've just been in and unblocked the scuttle drain.

However, this lip where the top meets the bottom on the outside is pretty grim. Obviously trapped moisture between the two bits of metal folded over.

Its falling to bits all the way along.

I reckon I just cut the whole fecker off wherever its fecked before the rot spreads to something more structural. Everything behind it that it vertical is bob on as far as I can see/feel.

But before I do that I just want someone to say its not a stupid idea. If the rot spreads back i reckon its

Anyone want to chip in with some good advice.

What purpose does that lip have do you reckon? Is it structural*?

Its just like a seam really where the 2 bits of metal meet. I can't see it adding much rigidity but then again, it might.

If it is where I think you are talking about they all rust there. I just had mine patched up.

I would imagine those panels are spot welded together along that flange, so if you cut it off the top and bottom panels would no longer be joined.

That sir is a very good point.

It'll still be attached in places anyway where its not rotten but if I do it in steps and weld small patches as I go it'll be good for a fair while won't it.

s @Six-cylinder says, they all rot there (especially uk cars)

it’s what killed most visa and C15’s at mot time over the years as the whole panel can go as you say, rust does like to spread.

it’s fixable for sure. I welded my old 17D there and all the inner wi gs and a post.

if you can cut the rot out and put some good metal back, then go for it. The lip will be adding some strength, but you should be able to put that back as before (then lots of waxoyl or similar)

Hola, question for the clever fellas (and fellettes) on here before I spend some money.

See these bits here where the anti roll bar meets the control arm:
