Sodding Hell Another two bought... ( 1960's Coupe Content Enclosed)

It seem's I've bought two more cars, both in a very shabby state. They were advertised on car and classic in a very cryptic advert which mentioned a scimitar coupe bodyshell and a garage full of spares. As they were just down the road in Bognor so it seemed rude not to take a look....

When I arrived it emerged that there were actually two cars both were stalled restoration projects in varying states of completeness.... The Coupé had previously had a body off chassis rebuild but had then been left outside, There was also a se5a which had had a similar amount of work done and was being prepared for a respay. This had at least been kept in the garage and under cover. Though after more than 15 years of storage both cars were looking very ropey...!

The seller was keen for both cars to go together (though I was only really interested in the coupe) I agreed to take both and arranged to come back with a trailer to take them away. The coupé's front suspension was missing so we brought a spare set with us in order to get the car rolling.

I have no idea what the plan for this is. It joins the restoration que behind my existing coupé and the crossflow rebel. Most likely the GTE will go on ebay as a project car as I don't need it and can't pay to store it indefinitely. Its got a decent chassis, 4 speed non overdrive gearbox and the engine runs so It could be a good car for a restoration project. I've not included too many photos of it as the coupé is the main point of this madness.

I've always thought those Scimitar GTs were stunning looking cars. Best of luck with it.

Those coupes are a nice shape.

This. Brilliant looking things.

Great work, I love these! And as a Sussex ex-pat I approve of your Shell garage abuse.

good save, always liked the coupes over the GTE and still fancy a straight 6....

Nice looking cars, how long to get them ship shape do you reckon?

They've merged a brand new advert with the old one from the 90's, and he looks exactly the same.

Judging by coalnotdole's previous efforts, about teatime on Sunday. Check back his previous threads if you don't believe me.

Everybody else seems to know what this means but I don't. Is it one of those TV adverts they have now?

It's one of the most annoying adverts ever made with some mullet wearing twat advertising double glazing.

Jeff Brown.  Apparently also the match announcer for Burnley FC and half-time 'entertainer' at Accrington Stanley.

Say no more.  I SAID, say no more...

Joe -damn well done!

They look ace. Local too. Looking forward to seeing that up the Maypole early next Spring.

Excellent save. How early is the 5?

He's a rare breed. A bald bloke with long hair. Like Bill Bailey, except you want to put the shiny headed arsehole through one of those windows.

Nice purchasing. I do like a good Scimitar.

Whats written on the back of the white one?

I have often wondered why the coupes are worth so much more than the Shooting Brake. Whats the difference?

Will look forward to a good resto thread.

My current coupé will come first I hope to have that on the road in the next few months, This one will likely be in storage till next year when things have calmed down a bit.

The 5a is a 1973 car, on an M plate, It ran surprisingly nicely for a car thats been in store so long the carb is a 40dfa on the original engine so its a bit unclear if its had some tuning work done to the top end in the past.

It Says Solent Gas, Plumbing and Heating. I believe it was an advert for a previous owner. Coupés are worth more because they are significantly rarer only 1000 were made. Plus there are still lots of GTE's about.

Good catch on these, the coupe is quite a sweet thing and a bit like the Porsche 924 - it would probably be worth a shitload more cash with a different badge.

I've had a Peerless GT and a Ginetta so hopefully a Reliant won't evade me for too long, GRP is 4 WINNAZ!

Met him and he is indeed an obnoxious twat.

Meanwhile the coupe is lush!

Excellent! I was wondering what you'd been up to recently. Now I know.

Any progress reports on the other Coupe or Xflow Rebel?

Oh, btw, I have seen a yellow Rebel van a couple of times heading South on the A24 recently... anyone you know?

I'm overdue an update on the progress on the other coupe, it's had most of the fibreglass work done, it's waiting on getting the brake lines laid and calipers refurbished. After that its waiting on sorting an engine, the easy option will be to drop in one of the known good 3.0 Essex in, the slightly more involved option is to put in a rebuilt 3.1 with unleaded heads and fast road cam, but that project depends on finding a firm who can balance it up for a reasonable price....

No real news on the crossflow rebel I've got most of the parts I need to get it roadworthy but its really waiting for a 5 day stretch in the garage too get the work done.

Hopefully get to the pub next month, I' missed out this month as I was working away

I've missed the last two I think but I'll make an effort to get to the next one. I guess you managed to sell the Estate in the end then?
