Just what I was thinking!  I we need more tales/pictures of your wonderful Tagora SX.

Sadly I made that post over two years ago. Boobydoo isn't around anymore, though I said hello to him at the NEC Classic Motor Show. He still owns great cars.

With quality content like this thread has become, I wonder* why he's not here any more.

ere someone else dredged it up, anyway looking on wikiwhateverpedo, it says they made the hunter in iran until 2005, so if i imported one on a 55 plate, would it be classed as old shite or would it be too modern and i have to go?

Oh poo, didn't look at the dates and thought an interesting poster might have come back.

Easy to see why some of these people don't bother any more.

well that was abit uncalled for... we all know that all cars from 40 odd years ago were a little bit crap.

and that is why we like them?

well thats why i do anyway....

i had no idea that this thread existed, and i think the hunter in it is ace.

i couldn't cope with them seats mind, but thats how things were back in the olden dayzzzz.

the rest of it is ace!

I Brought the thread back up as the cars original owners son want to get in touch.

i really hope that this motor is still around somewhere,

and thank you for dredging this up from god knows where from,

that way i got to see the pics of it earlier.

Not sure if boobydoo is on any other forums, he's not logged in here for 18 months. Worth tracking him down if you can though, that'd be quite nice for everyone to get a bit of history.

And all but one of us is glad you did. Sadly, the one is a deranged onanistic troll who loves the sound of his own obscene raving.

The only thing that dickhead has driven is his collection of marbles up his helmet sleeve.

i've not driven a hunter, but i have driven a mark 1 and mark 2 cortina, and i guess they will be kinda similar.

i found them to be very nice.

light controls, good visability, peppy engines and a nice gearbox.

yes they didn't go very, very quick, and they didn't stop like a new car does,

and by modern standards they will be classed as crap, but i really liked them.

Well a friend of mine has an Arrow series Humber Sceptre

It drives really nicely, easily the equal if not better than most saloons of the same era. Lovely gear change and pokey engine. Handles well too.

However it isn't worth much and is still seen as crap in the eyes of the general public

Almost the epitome of Autoshite I think....

What do you have Mr midnite?

Some elderly great aunt or something of mine had one of those Humber Sceptic Rootes Arrows years back. It was metallic gold and the reg started UUU, very impressed with it.

Are you called midnite because you are too embarrassed to take it out before midnite? ☺

My dad had a ten year old Hunter when I was a lad. It was pretty hanging and the wipers squeaked, but it had an overdrive and was therefore ace. Certainly seemed better than the shitbox Mk1 Escort estate it replaced. Mind you, my dad couldn't really afford to run a car at the time. They were both pretty much run into the ground. The Renault 9 Broadway that came along after truly felt like the future.

I drove Hunters a few times (never got me sweaty mitts on a Holbay mind) and once when i was but an 18 year old spotty strippling was loaned a 1500? same bodied Minx for the weekend, i really liked them, a lot prettier car than the mk 2 Cortina in my humble.

Those seat covers are giving me the willies mind.

I bought a Dolomite 1850 engine from a chap living a few towns away who has a pair of Sprints, his previous car was a scruffy gold Humber Sceptre (posh Hunter) auto.

Not sure if they are crap or not but when I asked the guy what happened to it he did say that it set itself on fire... Probably for the best as the last time I saw it there was a "for sale" sign in the window and a tatty 1970s Humber with imminent risk of spontaneous combustion is exactly the sort of heap I'd spend my money on.

...with steel wheels or alloys? Steel wheels look shit without hubcaps. Gotta have hubcaps for steel wheels, hmmmm...

Alloys FTW.

Unless they were designed by a roomful of monkeys with a box of crayons, in which case they may need hubcaps as well.

Humber Sceptic!! HAHAHAHAHANICE ONE CENTURION like it like it...

Hunter and Avenger were both surprisingly good drives. I delivered new ones in the 70's (worked for a leasing company) and preferred the limitations of their ancient but well sorted underpinnings to the shortcomings of the more competent Horizons and their ilk. Early front drivers usually came with nasty gear change and other foibles that you're just stuck with- sorting a poorly located rear axle is easy by comparison. It goes without saying that I know fuck-all compared with Mr Midnite.

Having owned both, I have far fonder memories of the Hunter than I do of the 800 (sorry, assorted Rover lickers), but that may be down to lower expectations ;)

It's SORNed - MOT ran out 25th July last year.

Lovely car and, as others have already said, that interior is a world beater 8)

Oh, and Mr Midnite - if you can find one of these at your house

please feel free to insert your shrivelled wang into it at your earliest convenience.

If everyone just wanted Fords then this forum would not exist. Family sentiment is why I presume the poster is asking for them.

Damn right, difference in taste is what makes us who we are, I love my old ford's but covet a lot of different interesting old cars and can I just add even ford's of the era were just as shit,

I really think midnite hasn't got the idea of this site

Is it the school holidays already??
