Those rubbish 90's after market wheel trims.

You know those rubbish wheel trims you could buy in caravaning and camping shops, and Halfrauds in the 90's, like these:

often found on stuff like this:

and these

I've noticed the old style rubbish has been phased out, now you can only get cheap tack like this:

Am I the only one that lements the passing of 90's aftermarket wheeltrims?

Cheer up, autumn's on the way and there will be dozens of the centrifugally-jettisoned old snotters peeking through the hedgerows......

i do hold fond memories of seeing chod in their prime wearing the most faboulous wheel trims from halfords and the like but saying that theres a lot of oe wheel trims from the 90s i like, i hate the blingy wannabe shit they sell now

Old-skool motor factor near me still has an unchanging display of shite trims which must be close to biodegrading...

Never mind the 90's shite, what happened to the Savage500 ? These classic stylish things could be found in your moms Kays catalogue for 75p a week and always had a disclaimer that read' Not suitable for BLMC 1100/Allegro or Maxi'

The only other car things would have been a plastic cover and a Krooklock, still the only page apart from the ladies underwear I looked at.post-17414-0-89431900-1380200875_thumb.jpg

At least the 90s style horrible cheap wheeltrims at least did the job of hiding the steel wheel behind them. The 'fake spindly alloy' ones appear to have completely missed the point as to why people buy wheeltrims.

These look so shit now, imagine how they'll look on a crap covered rusty wheel.

Hell, even some OEM trims are guilty of this (I'm thinking of those Fiesta ones).

The obtainage of stylish wheel trims is still possible from pound shops and Sunday markets.

You must have better markets than me, we're far too posh in Hampshire for selling such vulgor things as wheeltrims at our markets. Our local market is fine if you want some olives or some terracotta tortoises with whimsical expressions on their faces, but not if you want something useful.

Our last decent pound shop now sells chairs and tables.

I often wonder if anyone is fooled by the fake wheel nuts which seem to be compulsory now on all wheel trims

I like how iFat make completely unrealistic wheel trims yet they have to be secured under the real wheel bolts.

I could put fake 5 bolt ones on and post the pic on the iFat Forum with hilarious* results.

Nice wheel trims ? This is Autoshite, man, not Detailing World !!!

Cars with steel wheels should ideally be run without any trims at all, extra points if the wheels are rusty, mismatched or poorly painted with plenty of silver Poundland rattlecan overspray on the tyres.

Trims are only permissable if at least one is missing, if they are mismatched on the same side of the car or if they are held on with inappropriately large, white tie-wraps.

Sorry to go on about the Czechs again, I realise I do it a lot.

But, they fucking love shitty wheel trims like these over here and actually think they look good.
A friend of mine got some for his birthday and was really happy. I didn't know what to say. I hate the bloody things.

Blingy wheeltrims are awful things. I'd rather just have bare steel wheels than most of the horrible current ones. BUT-there is hope: just found these http://www.halfords.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/product_storeId_10001_catalogId_10151_productId_815667_langId_-1_categoryId_165525

I had a set of those on the Kangoo, they look pretty good actually.  Covered up the scabby steels and were better than the yellowed, cracked mismatched set it had originally

I fuggin love those.

We have one of those in Wilmslow. Moroccan almonds individually licked clean by Arab boys and hand-centrifuged honey from Cornish bees fed with Swiss fair trade poppy seed, all proceeds go to saving kittens, but no fuggin plastic wheelcovers.

I bought my dad a £20 set for his Mondeo. There was one left within a month!

Bought him proper Ford ones from the scrappy for £10 and they look infinitely better x infinity.

I hate trying to put wheel trims off, worst pain ever.

Someone nicked the OE ones from me dads B reg Sierra 1.6 Laser estate.

We were gutted. The car never looked the same again.

I have fond memories of Karcher'ing the lacquer from his mk1 Mondeo LX's trims, also.

"Dad, I've washed your car."

Worst. Factory. Trim.

Agreed. When I saw those I did honestly wonder if they were one of those ebay specials, gaudy aftermarket things with a 'Nissan' stuck in the middle.

I bloody HATE after market wheel trims almost as much as universal floor mats. Any placca-trimmed car I get, gets OEM jobbies only. I've gone over and beyond to replace the trims on Ma_Sterling's Micra with OEM jobbies.

I hate the ones that are based on oem trims like those Fiesta mk5 style ones on the Talbot camper van.

I also hate when car manufacturers (usually Korean, Malaysian and Japanese) put generic wheel trims on their cars, Kia, Proton, Daewoo, Daihatsu, Hyundai, etc were all bad for this in the early 90s, and I remember my dads chrysler neon having shit generic trims from new.

The best (therefore not autoshite) ones have to be the ones on mk5 Astras, Vectras and insignias called "structure wheels" where the trim covers the the whole of the steel wheel which is the same shape as the trim and from a distance looks like an alloy.

I much prefer steelies with hubcaps though but unfortunately the only things these days which still have them are some vans like Sprinters/Crafters/some base Transits.

Edited to include AS 'context asterisk'...  ;)

When I had my old laguna it was missing two of it's original trims - it had a couple of pound shop specials on instead.

The robbing bastard reanault stealer wanted £20 a pop - I went off to halfords and bought a set that would'nt have looked out of place in a remake of ben hur.

When I had my xantia it had the awful oe spec citoren items - some thieving swine actually pinched two from the same side.

You dont see as many shite trims nowadays - maybe they are going the same way as auto plas rear lovres and feu orange air freshners (the ones with the pin).

one of my favourite oe wheel trims, saying that when you removed them the steels underneath didnt look bad either

Whatever happened to those cheap BMW clone ones that were popular a wee while back? I actually quite liked them as they managed to look totally inappropriate on just about everything.
