L reg 2.0 Carlton CDx auto.

This was offered to me today by an ex work colleague and good friend. I've known the chap since I worked with him in the eighties and early nineties. This has been his wife's car since 2000, and she still doesn't want to part with it. My mate has ordered a new Vauxhall for her.

However...this is one of the cleanest Carltons I've ever seen. The rear arches and chassis rails are spotless. The engine is excellent as is the autobox. It has the correct cdx alloys, one of which is in the boot needing a tyre, so one steel is on the car.

All the electrics work, possibly with the exception of the cuise, although my mate is not sure about it, so it may work.

I was round his house today, and looked over the Carlton. I couldn't fault it really. He's been told it needs new front shocks, but I tried them and they bounce correctly, so maybe they're leaking. I didn't look.

The interior is unmarked. His wife doesn't smoke.

There is no mot and the tax is up on Monday.

They wanted me to take it there and then, and pay them whenever, but will I use it? It would be a waste of a lovely condition and getting to be rare car. It will drive anywhere, in my opinion. I'm still torn whether to have it or not, to be honest.

I meant to take my camera, but bloody well forgot it. If anyone's interested I'll go back as soon as and get some pics. Take my word for it though, it's one nice Carlton.

If anyone is interested, pm me and we'll take it from there. I think he wants about £250 for it.

Highly recommended.

Yonks ago these were the standard vehicle in the local booking-only taxi company and from a punter-in-the-back-seat perspective stood up to the punishment pretty well.

From the perspective of the miserable git in the drivers seat they were even better. I had two,a G reg 2.0GLi followed by a K plate CDX both clocked up 200k plus miles without major expense, which is more than I can say for the 2.0 16v Omega that followed them.

Got banned from my local auction for colouring in the '2' at the start of the odometer in black felt tip, because the clocks were to hard to get out,on the G plate one.

The car is in South Ockendon, Essex.

I'm out today Billy, having a stroll around the Olympic park, but will get pics asap.

Thanks chief. There is a Carlton Appreciation Society (or something like that) on FaceAche, might be worth linking up with them if someone on here doesn't want it.

It does sound like a cracker and they're getting rarer by the day now, hopefully it'll find a new home (in Crewe!) anon.

Brilliant cars. Ive had a couple. I drove one to the top of Norway (3000 miles ish) on a charity banger rally. 2.0 auto with 3 big lads and a weeks worth of luggage, it didnt miss a beat. Ended up being scrapped and we flew home!

I have got a lob on about this. What I’m hoping is that you’ll post a pic, it’ll look ace and someone else will quickly step in and grab it before I have a chance to get my hands out from the front of my undercrackers.

Ok chaps, I'm going round tomorrow morning to take some pics.

I was on the phone to him tonight. He told me he polished it at the start of the summer and it looked pristine. It was a bit dusty yesterday where it has been standing, but hopefully he's going to give it a splash over before I get there tomorrow.

Watch this space.

Right, my mate Ronny was having his house painted today, so he didn't get a chance to wash the beast, but try to look through the dust chaps, you'll see what a rust free example this is.

Dear God, that's ace!

Those seats are incredibly comfortable by the way, about the plushest you'll find.

This has got Reg's name all over it.

I spent most of my childhood in a Carlton - my mum had one and my Grandad was so impressed with hers, that he went and got one himself. A 2.3 dizzler if I recall and it was an absolute battle tank. Decent looking car this one and I hope it finds a good home. Don't see many about anymore

That one looks ace! Like most big Vauxhalls these could rot like fuck and nobody cared when they all disappeared, it's good to see one in such decent nick.

Got to be worth the asking price and a shot at an MOT.

CDX as well, and it's got rear wheel arches ! These really are nice to drive, far more civilised than a Sierra. Huge boot as well. Mechanical bits are pretty much bomb proof, and if you can stave off the rot, should last for ages. Only downside is they're not great on juice round the houses, but very good on ye olde motorway.

Ronny really wants me to have this, he even offered to drive it to my house today. He knows I used to love Carltons and Senators. A few years ago, I'd have torn his arm off for it, but I've sort of got used to my big old lumbering Grand Voyager. I'll give this another day or so, then I'll advertise it elsewhere for him.

I would be well interested in this.No money till payday unfortunately.

Unless my Estima sells as i just readvertised it on here.

That is a beauty. Can't fault that whatsoever. TS, just get it, store it, pay him when you can and one of this lot will buy it given a little bit of time. I am about £100 short of the asking price sadly and could store it in Cheltenham too, arrghhh!!!! Auto is helpful as well, feck, feck, feck.
