Decent special editions

Those Calibres are minging. Shame really, normal Mk2 Cavs - like a brown CDi - are decent looking motors.

Capri 280 "Brooklands", always amused me that they're the slowest of all the 2.8 injection Capris because the wheels bugger up the gearing.

They definitely didn't help the bodywork underneath, as I found come MOT time. I just loved the boxy 'style' of them, plus the fact bodykits were really 'in' at the time, and they were always pretty rare even when new.

They had an Irmscher kit on them and spawned countless replicas because you had buy a shit 'lookalike' kit. Worth bloody good money these days, probably because there's only about 1.7 (out of 500) left on the road. Mine was the common or garden 'E' reg (E258 AUX) and there was supposedly 17 that ended up on an 'F' reg. I knew a lad who had an 'F' reg one and he ruined it by putting a badboy bonnet on it, spraying the whole car purple and just generally making it look even shitter.

There were 2 different Vectra STs that people commonly confuse, there's the Supertouring which was basically a white SRi with a GSi front bumper, white wheels and some different trim. Think these came in 2.0 and 2.5 v6

Then there was the ST200, only 38 of these made (hence limited edition not special IMO) these were originally GSis i think. these came mostly in black I think, and had been messed around with by MSD (Motorsport developments) these were all 2.5 v6 IIRC upgrades were 3 litre cams, 4 pot front brakes, Koni suspension, Recaros, and Speedline Mistral wheels. Cosmetically I think they had Steinmetz skirts, and some irmscher bits and pieces inside.

You mentioning MSD ,reminded me that all GSi's could be classified as special editions as they all started off as SRi's that were shipped to MSD in Milton Keynes and had wheels and bumpers etc changed then put back on transporters and returned to Vauxhall as GSi's.

Incidentally on the same industrial estate that Tickford did RS500 Cossie's and RS200's. don't remember seeing 1600e Orion or 280 Capri's there,so maybe that happened elsewhere.

Nova Sport! Came in white white twin Webber carbs I think.

Hard to find now in unruined condition (compomotives, XE, roll cage, underside and arches covered in waxoyl).

Predictably, I'd bleeding love one of them.

This has an interesting story. Originally, they didn't want to build it as a special edition. VW launched an ad with the original Harlekin to display the excellent and equal build quality of all the body panels. The reaction was an enormous demand for a multicoloured Polo which VW finally made. This model had a separate assembly line on which ready cars were disassembled and reassembled again. 4 different Harlekins were created in this shuffling, base colours were red, yellow, blue and green. The reassembling had a distinct colour order of course, red cars came with yellow front doors etc.

but what colour goes on the V5?

I think the colour is Harlequin on the V5

Under recognised DVLA colours there is an option for Multi-coloured so I guess it says that.  (its main use would be vehicles with a livery lorries/buses/coaches etc)

Stateside also got a Mk3 Golf Harlequin IIRC; you've also forgotten the Proton Lynx/Puma which despite being barried 1.5GLs were superior purely by being, on the whole, J-reg.

Colin Chatman was well known for his dislike of unions, but after his death in the early eighties Lotus Special Projects released this limited edition to celebrate the unionisation of the Norwich production facility , Aston Martin Tickford were quick to react with the Ticford NALGO Montego.

To celebrate VA's new aquisition:

Even by the standards of other manufacturer's 'special' editions, this seems rather lazy - they cut a hole in the roof and bolted some more lights on.  They obviously realized this and tried again:

Fancy!

Could this be considered a Special Edition?

Also, I would like to take the liberty to go transcontinental for a moment and introduce you to two of my favourite Special Editions:

Both were available without the raggery as a delete option. They are total underdogs in the muscle car world to this day, yet can give any overhyped Mopar a run for their money.

How about the ultimate Capri the 280

the cabbage is the ultimate rusting capri down to poor painting and rust proofing when they rushed to make over double the original intended amount
