Focus TDDI... Before I weigh it in...

Anyone fancy this before I weigh it?

The jist - Y reg, really tidy, tax end October, slipping clutch, no MoT.

I bought this around April and have ragged it all over the country - up and down to Aberdeen twice a week, and on a road trip to York, up round Scarborough and the moors etc and back.

It's reliable as hell. 50mpg plus - and I've measured 60 on the long run down the motorway to York.

Really clean and tidy.. The wee bits of rust on the door bottoms in the pics are gone now - I had them repaired and you'd never know.

I've done about 10k in it and its now on 103000. Was a bit too boring for me so I decided to go buy the ZT instead with a plan of re testing the focus and punting it on for 6-700 quid. BUT on the run back from collecting the ZT the clutch started slipping. It's still driving fine but slippage is there when provoked. You could get it home no problem.

For its MoT it needs front brake discs and pads and 2 or possibly 3 tyres IMO. I'd already put one new tyre on a couple of weeks ago and bought the discs/pads (which I'll throw in) to get it ready for the test but now that it needs a clutch as well it doesn't make sense for me to spend on it given cartakeback are offering near £250 and I was just going to punt it anyway.

It would be a crying shame though as there's years of use left in it and it practically runs on fumes.

The clutch on these is quite straightforward apparently with no DMF nonsense and the kits are about £65 on eBay.

So- anyone want it for the £250 bridge money before I kill it?

No more room at my gaff  Shame, it really dosen't deserve to be scrapped. This is why these "green" programmes annoy me.

Hope it finds a home.

If you werent 500 miles away and the missus liked it I'd be tempted! Alas the aformentioned issues mean GLWS!

Aye. Sadly the economics of a super-cheap car, being so far away, don't really work. Surely some Scoto-shiter must be interested?

If you could tax, mot it, fit a new clutch, make sure it's fully valeted and deliver it to my house I'll give you 250.

CALL ME

Seriously though it is a shame it's probably going to get cubed but by the time you mot it and put a clutch in it (at garage rates) you could probably buy one without all the issues and save the hassle.

well thats the thing. I could probably source a couple tyres, I can do the brakes myself - having already bought the bits and at that I reckon it'll test.

The clutch is the issue for me. I have a dodgy mate who normally would sort it for cheap but unfortunately for me he's just fallen out with the guy who owns the workshop he used - and hence been kicked out and cant do anything. Annoying as I'd probably have got a clutch fitted from him at £150 all in.

It genuinely is a really sound, tidy, nice driving old car and I think with a test it'd sell easily at around the £700 mark being the TDDI but getting a garage to do the work i'll end up as well off just to bridge it

Thought I'd offer it up here first though

Doing the work yourself - £250 car plus £75 to buy the clutch/get it delivered, couple of tyres at 30 - 40 quid each, fit the (free) brakes, £50 MOT and you have a properly sound tidy uncomplicatd diesel with a years test, couple of months tax , new brakes, clutch and tyres at under £500  which isnt a bad prospect.

Fuxake - too far away for it to be viable for me, but was thinking of bridging the Micrashed myself and getting something slightly bigger

Tinworm and fresh air make up the crossmember now, and at garage rates I may as well bridge it.

Scrappies full of tidy cars with good bodywork that were bridged because something like a new clutch makes it beyond economical repair.

Crazy, but that's the way it is.

if it was a TDCi with the Dual mass flywheel id have no hesitation in weighing it in as by all accounts they are a bastard to do. This one's the last of the old school TDDi diesels with the solid flywheel and apparently is quite straightforward, hence not a horrific job

Totally agree though. Whenever i wander round U Pull It I always have WTF moments when I see the condition of some of the cars in there.

I wish I wasn't as skint as I am.lol. Im only across the water in Edinburgh too. I think that's worth doing as it would be perfect for my job....unlike my 20mpg Veccy.lol

Wow, was looking over my mates Focus today, identical to this one but in purple. Every panel borked, keyed, badly sprayed etc. Some trim missing, a real heap. He thought it was worth a grand, I told him 3 to 4 hundred notes. Looking at this car, I need to reconsider my evaluation, his is worth whatever the scrappie will pay. This one looks in great condition. 15,000 of these on Autotrader btw.

Shame to see it scrapped Dave. Btw cartakeback turned out to be really good. U pull it took the Vectra husk for 200 so I was very pleased. Poor guy had his work cut out extracting it drone the lock up too.
