Half Arsed Car Sales Inc - Merc W124 200TE 7 Seater

Haven't bothered to properly advertise this or get some decent photos yet, but since it came from a fellow shiter it's only fare to offer it here first. With the arrival of the Porsche I can't really have 2 thirsty cars on the drive

MAYNE BITS

Mercedes W124 200TE 7 seater estate

2.0 injection automatic

Tax until the end of September

MOT until the end of January

226k miles - yes I know it's customary to insert a "just run in" cliche at this juncture, but it really doesn't show its age at all

GR8 BITS

7 seats with a boot that folds completely flat

Electric windows all round

Power steering

Central locking

Electric sunroof

Self levelling suspension

Dual zone heating (a sort of primitive climate control)

Never let me down, starts and drives as it should

Big pile of history including the original purchase receipt (£24k)

Very blue

NOT GR8 BUTS

Bits of rust on the wing - a common problem but only cosmetic as the wings and sills are in great condition

Indicators hardly ever self cancel

Rear brakes squeak a bit

Occasionally the idle can be a bit rough. Seems completely random and only does it very rarely

Since it came from here I'll offer it for a firm £500, which is what I paid a few months ago. Or swap for something of similar value?

That is nice, I would like to but I cannot. I really, really cannot. Nope.

No.

That looks ideal for someone to kip in at shitefest ... GLWTS and all that.

Generic answer from me too sadly.....

Would love it. But.

The dog ate my homework/am skint/wife has just bought some hair gizmos/ my drive is too small/ my neighbours are gits etc etc.... GLWTS.

It's like eBay but without the hassle! At least we are honest.

Lol

That's not a carb? The "E" stands for einspritz- German for injection. Carb models were all pre facelifs, pre Sacco board cars :)

My old estate, lovely thing to waft about and can vouch for its loveliness in general. Ive had several of these and it was one of the nicest driving ones. not carbed, it has bosch ke jetronic feeding the fuel.

The odd idle may be one of the return springs which pushes the throttle lever against the microswitch, which came adrift once when i had it.

You describe it as "thirsty" - just how thirsty  ?

You're looking about 20mpg in town and 30 on a run.

Guess I'll change it to injection then. Whoops

Blimey. Same sort of consumption as the 300E near enough - though I did once get 16mpg average over a tank! Chaseracer - I don't recommend you spend too much time experimenting with first gear...

Lovely, solid old buses though, and estates add another world of practicality to the mix.

Does this model have spheres on the back end? I had a TE that had them and it was fab.

Yes it does have self levelling suspension. Time to edit my original post for the second time!

Either it's got an issue, Merc auto boxes are crap, the estate is much heavier than the saloon or you have lead boots as my 200E manual did 30 mpg around town and over 40 on a long run. Many people fiddle with K Jet, and usually make it worse.

Ian, it's done 30mpg in mixed driving on the first tank, which is a lot better than I was expecting! Forty rather expensive but cheerfully delivered litres in Rhayader 280 miles ago, and only now does it need another drink. Not bad...

Might as well bump this. Anyone fancy a swap?

Bump! This looks great, was keen on this a few months ago but bought something else, typical! GLWTS and all that
