Dare I say it but....is anyone attending the Retro Rides Gathering this year?

It's on August 18th. 

I'm going to try and get on the hillclimb one last time. If I can't get on this year it's probably going to be the last time that I venture over. 

I'll probably be in the 460 because the Amazon won't be ready by then - I'm waiting on some bits. 

I know the RRG isn't highly regarded on here but Prescott is one hell of a location.

I'd like to but sadly I'm otherwise engaged - VWFestival at Harewood - that weekend.

 

Prescott is superb location though, probably one of the nicest venues in the UK.

I will be going I enjoyed it last year just chill out on the hill on sun and watch them go up.

I will go one year, there always seems to be some great motors on show judging by the pictures.

I want to do the hillclimb in the Princess just for shits and giggles.  But I'm not going because I'm poor and far away and probably otherwise engaged.  I'm also worried I might meet people on the internet and shatter the illusion of being such an awesome individual that they will have obviously all built up by now with my superb taste in cars and modifications.

Every year I say that I'd love to do it but it still never happens, this year being another. The trouble is that the show is the opposite side of the country for me and I'm not a double hard bastard like some of the local chap who go as I can't be arsed to drive so far in the Cortina.

 

In fact I really should stop making excuses and just to it!

No disrespect to Retro Rides, but it’s not really my thing (not least because none of my cars are “retro†yet, but give them time) to much of a “lifestyle†forum which takes old cars a bit too seriously for me. Like those shops in posher parts of London which sell old stuff and furniture made out of rubbish for silly prices. If it’s old, it’s going to be a bit shit, and not worth taking all that seriously.

I think it’s like being a tabloid man or a broadsheet man-I’m a brown man not a blue man. 

 

If they keep old cars on the road, they’re OK by me though.

I agree, but the cars there are pretty good. In fact better than any classic car show I've been to.

I'll deffo be going, but won't be hill climbing relating to the fact I won't be getting on Prescott because they've all been block booked for the day by five people.

They should sort this out as it was unfairly done last year. Vulgalour you should hop in with Jon.

I agree completely, some of the resto projects are really impressive. For instance the thames dormobile, but unfortunately it seems a very " clique-y" place, infested with hipster, scene wankers.

Ignore the forum. Whenever I've attended a Retro-Rides meeting, I've been staggered by the friendliness and the number of entirely stock vehicles on display. Yes, there are some pretty ropey looking motors there too, but how often do you go to a car meet where you like every car present? At least the MGB quota should be fairly low.

 

I really wanted track time last year, but was so worried that it'd be unfairly distributed that I didn't go at all in the end. With justification it seems! Why on earth they can't just let everyone have one single run up the hill I don't know. Any more than that and you start getting cocky and liable to bin it (the second hairpin tightens quite a bit, as I discovered on a 'parade' at last year's La Vie en Bleu in the 2CV!)

I went to the show a few years ago on my own from Scotchland (nae pals) and everyone was really friendly and it was a very cool show. I'd like to go back at some point.

I've not been to this since it moved to Sparkford but I have a feeling its probably the best show out there. The old RR shows at the pod were really excellent.
