Local Car Meet Photos - Tonight

Recommended Posts

Me and a friend have started a Facebook group up called East Coast Retros (https://www.facebook.com/groups/EastCoastRetros/) which is mainly for people in the East Anglia area to chat, share photos, find out about local shows and join up meets that we hold.

We had our first meet back in February which went well but it was dark, cold and the location we was a bit naff, the last 2 months we have been holding it at a pub called the Shipwreck in Shotley Marina.

We had our 3rd meet tonight which was another success, Here's a few photos I thought you might like to see.

This Transit was amazing, it's fitted with a lorry turbo and intercooler and it has a more modern diesel engine, It goes like a rocket whilst chucking out deep, black smoke, Great!.

This is my mates XR3, I turned out tonight that it's one of the very first 50 made as it has the washer jet in the middle of the bonnet and not in the scuttle plus it has a special order vin plate.

Cripes, that Mk4 'Tina's a honey isn't she? 8)

How was the whole holding it at a pub thing for you? My mate did that years ago with his club and everyone got really pissed and drove home so he held the next one at McDonalds and nobody liked it so they never came again.

Good luck, looked like a good turnout.

It's seems to be going well so far, the pubs happy to have us there and they reserve an area outside especially for us and in the return people bring their wives and buy their tea there, most people have a soft drink although i was cheeky and bought myself a Adnams Gunhill ale tonight.  :eatdrink040:

That XR3 is to die for. I once owned TTW 298W which was one of the batch that went to Ford dealers in the run up to the launch of the XR3 which was In November 1980.....2 months after the main launch of MK3 in early September. They were all registered TTW xxxW. I'm not sure how many was in the batch but it was into the hundreds nearly all in Sunburst Red with loads of extras. Mine went to Seed Ford in Colne Lancashire. Skippers in Burnley had TTW 301W. I think there are 1 or 2 still on sorn................mine???? According to the dvla it was registered scrapped in 94. RIP.

Looks like it was a resounding success, I suppose Facebook isn't really all that bad after all, certainly good for arranging stuff like this.

The Tranny is insane, I'd love to have a drive of that. Personally, I'd paint it up in a sort of 'care in the community' livery for extra bafflement points...

Great pics, of what looks to be a cracking meet.

I like the Transit too, I wonder what it drives like?? Whats in the back, a camper conversion?

Looks good, venue looks nice too.

That Mk4 Cortina is TEH_SEX. I'd happily have that.

It's a 1.6 GL that's just been restored, the lad who owns it also owns a mint Granada 2.0 L Mk2.

There's been a video made of the meet now, my Cortina features early on and my wife in Alto a bit later.

The success of the meet is great - but am I the only person who thinks that classic cars (and many moderns) tend to look bloody stupid when given the Max Power/ Revs look? For example, that Taunus and mk2 Cortina have been ruined and that Lupo is a joke

We are meeting again this Wednesday 17th at the Shotley Marina Shipwreck pub if anybodies local and fancies coming down I should be there in the Civic and maybe the wife in Alto, It would be great to see you!

That Mk4 Cortina is just brilliant, ditto the early XR3. The URO suffix seems vaguely familiar, was it an ex-press car or something?

Posted

I've never seen an XR3 on a W plate before, that's brilliant. Looks like a good meet indeed.

Heads up for anybody local as this is on tonight, it sounds as if we've got the making of a good turn out tonight!, you don't need to own a classic by the way!

Posted

We had another brilliant turnout again tonight, nearly 40 cars! and a couple of Autoshiters turned up too.

I'll do another photo dump as it's easier to do on here.

Quite a range right enough, love the Datsun 200 and the wee green Shuvvit.

Posted

The Datsun belongs to Spottedlaurel who used to be on here, I also had a drive of it, most satisfying! It just wafts along lovely with lots of low down torque and it's very highly spec'd with electric windows all round, power steering and 5 gears, I was most impressed!

Shove-it or Cresta wagon for me please, they're both lovely.
