The Dailymail even managed to get a mention of Princess Diana into an article about shite old cars. I'm surprised they haven't claimed that Madeleine McCann was recently spotted in a Talbot Sunbeam.

i was going to reply with a barrage of abuse at the sheep, but then thought no,it keeps the prices down

EPIC NUMBER CRUNCHING. They compared total production figures with the number of cars still left in the UK.

"Despite its sleek-looking front, the Rover SD1 has just 310 lucky owners now†:| err...

Cack reporting Daily Mail! And old cars are disappearing from the UK’s roads???? Never!!!

Apparently 1.5million Metros were built from 1980 to 1981. Bloody good year for BL then.

What a shit newspaper, really.

Here is all that's worth reading:

That's still useless because it compares global/pan-European production figures with the amount of cars remaining on UK roads.

Seen the bit on BBC breakfast this morning, laughably crap! I almost got excited when I seen what was "coming up next" but should have known it would be the usual half arsed 2 minute cringefest! The "expert" Steve Berry saying how Montegos were cool and set to become sought after, he should try selling one!

He was right about the cool bit anyway...

TBH, I thought Steve Berry made a refreshing change to Quentin Willson, whose Brylcreemed head usually provides the rent-a-quote gob for these things.

Plus they've probably used HowManyLeft which is as accurate as thinking of a number, doubling it, and taking away your age in hours.

The statistics are a bit shit, because the earlier stuff would have been exported in a big way, and even the 1970s cars such as the Avenger were popular in places in like New Zealand. As an example, about 20-30% of Cortina 1/2/3 production was exported.

Montegos really are rare though, only two turned up at Pride of Longbridge. I also how many of the surviving Maestros are the hand assembled ones from the late 1990s. Also surprised at how few Rover SD1s are left.

What are the survival rates of non-British chod of the period in comparison?

The article is 100% useless.

Where do they get their stats? Even Howmanyleft.com state there are nearly 500 Allegros knocking about including SORN examples. Plus the BBC use a Vanden Plas, a car that wouldn't even be counted in those figures. Nice to see some chod get a mention though.

Yes, i agree - absolutely

I didn't read it and won't be bothering. It's just half-arsed, lazy bastard 'journalism' to fill a few inches, these things always are no matter what the paper.
