The HA Viva was defo my 'car of the show'. I had a quick chat with the owner who said it was the last mingebag spec one left and that (apart from the underside which had been fully restored) it was exactly how it was found after years in storage. He said if the original owner saw he would say that was exactly how he left it. The cobwebs inside and the surface rust outside were brilliant, really just a fabulous motor.

This is the one on eBay ending tonight...

On the subject of that Viva, the owner (who also owns the black one) has a thread for it over on the blue here: http://retrorides.proboards.com/index.c ... ead=146108 I don't think I could have taken such a restrained approach to the restoration, but I'm totally glad that he did. The black Viva was an ex-MTV prize, it too has a build thread for those that are so inclined: http://retrorides.proboards.com/index.c ... 331&page=1

I do feel like I missed out rather on this show, it looked like there was some quality content despite the weather. I'll do my best to make it next year.

Fark knows what this machine is actually called, but it was some sort of mini rolling road as the bike in question wouldn't start (there's a surprise for a British motorbike, hey!) and the owner and his mate were trying to bump start the bike using this contraption. I'm calling FAIL though as when I was leaving the AA were out to it!

That Renault 8 is amazing 8) .Father_155 had one in the '70s,it didn't have a gearstick at all, just 5 or 6 buttons under the dash which you had to press really hard like on an early video recorder

Pants weather but great line up and good to be a part of it.Nice to see pics of me motor and the kind comments.

Great pics. Shame we didn't win any awards. Maybe we should ask them for a wooden spoon option next year? I did enter the 2CV in the Sports Car and Convertibles class though.

That looks ace. Even more annoyed to have missed it now.

Seconded, looks like the weather didn't dampen the day too much either. Next year I won't be letting anything get in the way of this (famous last words), how many shiters turned up in the end?

Did anyone do a head count or have a good memory?

I reckon there was about 30 or so shiters/shiteists.

There was a weird convoy of 15 or so to the pub afterwards

Funnily enough I've just been trying to work that out. I reckon we probably had 30 because I think I ended up with 35 tickets and we had four or five who couldn't make it.

Sorry, I got these two up but Photofuckit is being stupid tonight and just gave me three of the Viva! So I reckon the rest will have to wait until tomorrow, it's my bedtime. Or at least it will be by the time I've walked my dog.

Bloody good turnout, despite the weather, and it was great to meet some of the people I've been talking to for three years! I didn't get to meet every Shiter, which was a shame, but another time... One thing that did strike me though, was how young so many are! I may possibly have been the oldest Shiter* on the pitch, which amazes me somewhat. I've said it before and will say it again, I do like to see the younger chaps preserving the old cars. Good on yers! :D

*The margin may be small in some cases, but not many!

Had a good day, the awful winteresque weather ruined it for me though. My fingers went numb.

One of the highlights was watching some bloke spectacularly go arse over tit when he tripped over that silver motorbike starting stand in Billy's photo! Good line up of cars from the AS stand, nice to speak to all again! That Viva was epic. Compere slobbering over the bird in the 'shocking pink' escort cabby doesn't get any less creepy every year!

Really nice to see the red Fiesta XR2 again in these photos, I don’t know why really, but I expected it would be dead by now like most XR2s.

I spent 2 days with T-Cut & compound polishing millions of tiny little white gloss paint dots off the paintwork by hand when it was less than a year old. The owner had gone into a petrol station to fill up. Esso had just taken over the site, and they were having the underside of the canopy painted with a big gloss roller on a windy day, and while he was in the shop looking at the car magazines this got covered in paint on the forecourt. He was best mates with my old boss, so he quoted Esso £600 less than Bramall quoted for a respray and I got the job of polishing it off.

One of the first big jobs that I did on my own during my 6 months there on the YTS, my old boss must have made a bloody good crack out of that job. The YTS wage was only £29.50 a week back then. This car is probably the reason I’ve never invested in a polishing machine. I learnt to polish cars the hard way, by hand and when the weather is nice I love putting the effort in to bring the dull paintwork back to life on an old snotter.

A Traffic copper based at Hartshead Moor services, had just bought a beige D plate 5 door Metro City that we maintained and GCP was his initials. He was tempted to buy the number, but the plate was too new to be transferred to the Metro which was on chuckie.

The bloke also owned a brown V or W plate Talbot Sunbeam rally car. He bought the Sunbeam as a starter car off one of our customers not long after we did the XR2 for him. The old dear had been offered £60 trade in on the Sunbeam by Brockholes Ford against an ex demonstrator special edition bright green Fiesta, which was a bloody joke really as it was mint and we had just done a service and put a fresh ticket on it for her. We did quite a bit of work on the rally car conversion. Bit of a shame really, because the Sunbeam was a really low mileage one lady owner from new car, with beige interior that just ended up going in a skip.

Sorry for the thread hijack. But I am really pleased to see it is still alive and that it still looks as good today, as it did when I polished it back in the summer of 88.

Some really nice pictures of some cars I haven’t seen in the flesh for years, shame the weather wasn’t great today. We had planned to go to the British Commercial Museum spring show today, but we didn’t bother going.

I’ll take the white Astra GTE if nobody else wants it. That looks really nice, reminds me of one that my neighbour had that was always kept as clean as this one. It had one of those annoying dealer fit alarms fitted with the ‘do not disturb’ stickers on the windows that was forever going off when one of my dogs pissed on it.

Respect to the Scottish branch for heading down in the rain with Volvos for this one, if the wipers are anything like the 240 they will be a slow arsed useless piece of shit. I wouldn’t fancy driving all that way down the M6 in the rain in a Volvo. Mrs 240 wants to know if the tailgate will ever get painted on the council estate.

What, and ruin the look of it? I may have tracked down a gold tailgate/bonnet/wing but I'm loathe to even wash the sodding thing so any such work is unlikely...

I think to finish off the look of the Volvo it doesn't need a gold tailgate, it needs a red passenger door.

haz corona too i was stood 40 mins after id only just walked in listening to him :D

So you've met Peter Hunter, he's editor of our club magazine (Toyota Enthusiasts) and has a frighteningly in-depth knowledge of most cars made from the dawn of time up until the 1990's.

His real car and model car collection is immense, and there aren't many Toyota brochures/books he hasn't got.

I'd say you were lucky to get away with only 40 minutes, you should try getting him off the phone after well over an hour !!!! :D

He will also be doing the ring commentary at the Andrew Greenwood car show at Hoghton Towers at the end of June as the regular guy Les can't make it.

I had to miss yesterday's show due to ill health but I'm usually on the TEC stand with one of my Toyotas.

Time for me to pipe up I think. My effort from t'other day with a couple of samples to give a FLAVA of what's inside the main Flickr page.
