This takes me back - Friend had an Alfasud Sprint back in the early 1990's, and I was well jel at the time.

He removed the airbox lid & filter to increase its noisiness and it ingested a bolt - That didn't kill it (although warranted an engine rebuild by Eddie the bag, a local 'mechanic' who used weetabix boxes to create his gaskets); tin worm eventually did for it - I think one of the doors actually fell off, clown-car style.

I'd been after one of these for a while and I knew ScoobyPete had one he was keeping as a spares car for his immaculate black one. He agreed to sell me this one thankfully and it was delivered at the weekend, it's going to need a fair bit of welding amongst other things but thought you might like to see some pics

Super, keep us posted on progress. I've the pick up version (had for 2 years and done nowt with it)

Look forward to see how you get on with it.

Wow - late registration madness! I'm sure the saloon and estate were replaced earlier than these by the Leone (whatever it was called in the UK market - can't remember) way before 1985/6. My sister's first car was a 1600 LF saloon, 2wd, around 1990. Sadly rolled by her and bought by a local farmer for spares. Those stubby levers and caramac vinyl bring back memories.

Was this the one that was advertised on ebay a couple of years back based in Gravesend by any chance ?

I'm not sure if it was on eBay, Pete told me he bought it from a scrapyard.

Excellent!

I've still got mine (the silver D-reg), but it's now gone back to sleep after a close shave with a dodgy bodyshop that was meant to restore it but instead partially dismantled it then did a runner with both mine & some other customers' money... plus I lost a battery and set of keys (just as well I'd had a spare set cut). Thieving c**t!

But hey, on the bright side, he was up-to-date on the rent on his unit so his landlord released my car back to me.

Lessons learned? Far too many...

Haven't updated for a while so thought I would. Managed to get some dry storage on the farm next door so had a move around with some of the cars. A second Subaru from scooby pete arrived. A 77 leone estate, I dug the 125p out of the shed which I'd been meaning to do for a while and moved the innocenti out of the council lockup. Inno is off for resto once the rest of the panels and parts arrive from Italy and Greece, just a few photos.

Fantastic stuff. I wouldn't know where to start. Is the subaru estate the one that was imported from a Aus? Looks familiar.

Posted

Yeah that's the one, the aus number plate is still on the back under some gaffer tape.

I wondered what that clanging noise was.... if you can make Skizzer's and Bollox's jaws drop, you are definitely doing something right!  Mine's only hanging by a thread....!

So it’s been a while since my last update. I got the red 125 pickup on the road and was using that last year. I said I wouldn’t be buying any more cars but a couple came up that I just couldn’t resist, one being a t reg super Estelle 120 ls in a shade of custard and the other being the holy grail for me a rhd borewicz polonez. Saved from the banger track at the eleventh hour. I’m thinking of trying to get the two that I have to mate lol.

Welcome back Benno

That is something very special. Not to everyone taste but that is a lovely colour on the last one too.

Posted

Did you keep the Stellars or have they gone to fresh pastures?  The Polonez looks as though it will keep you busy rust chasing - a bit like my Stellar!

Nice collection  :-D

I could never get tired of looking at pictures of this astounding fleet. Some absolute weapons-grade Autoshite on here.

A neighbour of my aunt used to run an FSO 125P back in the late-80s. Amazingly, she bought my dad's rotbox of a Marina estate and considered it an upgrade. I think hers was the last one I ever saw on the road.

All the very best for getting these ones back on the public highway again!

Whoever owns that Chrysler Alpine I am jealous. I would offer my Saab as a swap but Mrs D will go absolutely booli.

For some reason I was fascinated with Rootes/Chrysler/Talbot when I was a kid (I don't think it's gone really), along with HC Vivas and ribbon speedos.

The FSO 125 was much derided, but I thought it was a better car to drive than a Marina/Ital. Good Save(s)

I stopped scrolling whenever I saw that first pic of BYA580S - the registration seems very familiar. I'm convinced I took a snap of this same Alpine in the carpark of Beamish in summer 1996 - it was wearing one of those original plastic Comic Relief Red Noses, too. I really liked the original Alpines - family friend owned a seriously crocked early example with a badly frayed white vinyl roof.

I know what I'm going to be doing tonight... up to the attic to haul down the boxes of photos from my youth...

I'll keep you posted.

EDIT: Nah. Had a flick through my photos, and the Alpine I snapped was not this one, sadly. Think I got confused with SYA***S, which belonged to a Colt Sigma that lived round the corner from me in Weston-Super-Mare.

Have a bonus Alpine anyway - though as CRM104T hasn't been taxed since October 1996, I guess this was probably one of its last-ever outings. Nice cars, anyways.
