Shite of Longbridge - 13th April

Just curious who's going to this? Still on my radar for Saturday although it'll have to be good to justify the 7hr round trip. Any opinions based on past experience?

I don't remember a bar. Bring a bottle of White Lightening.

It's very easy to describe this event - whether it's worth a massive roadtrip is up to you. Lots of Rover-related shite in a field. And that's about it really. No arena. No bloke shouting stuff you can't understand in your ears all day. Just cars and long queues for anything to eat. IIRC, there were about 20 Rover 200 BRMs last year. That was a sight in itself! Apparently over 100 vehicles are now taking part in the Cowley-to-Longbridge convoy, so that'll be impressive too.

Right, I must go to this now as I have a boot full of parts I need to drop to someone. Hopefully like last year I'll be all over the place, if you see this bloody thing.....

...then please feel free to make a beeline towards it, I might eventually shack up with the Montego lot, depends though on where everybody is.

What time does this thing usually start? I normally get there around midday (cuz I'm lazy) but need to make an effort to be there in the morning, I'd rather not be caught up with hundreds of BRM 200s trying to make thier way in.

I should be there with the Metro crowd in my hearing aid beige one:

I need to do a quick tune up first though as it's running like a bastard, so I'm not a dead cert yet.

Bloody hell, kudos to you for driving that all the way from London and back again! You might need a hearing aid to match the colour of the car when you get back to London.

I may be in Birmingham this weekend to see my parents. If I am, I may smoke along in the Red Rangey, if such non Longbridge but definitely BL tat is allowed to mingle with the other Brit-shit. Shall I wash it, or turn up with it covered in mud and bird poo as it is at present?

I saw a K reg Metro on the M40 yesterday. He was doing almost 60 mph, I reckon. Kudos to him. I once saw a dishonest 100 mph indicated on the speedo of my mum's D reg Van Den Plas Metro, downhill with a tailwind on the M40 near Thame. Fuck me, that was terrifying, especially as I had only had a full driving licence for about 90 seconds before I got onto the motorway. No, I fib. My first time on the motorway was in my dad's Montego 1.6 HL, also D reg, on the same stretch, at night. I was too scared to go above 80, even assuming that the POS would have been capable of doing so. Don't tell my dad about the handbrake turns in Thame Rugby Club carpark.

You get used to the noise Mo, but it's my back that suffers. I may have to recline in the seats of your Sterling at some point to help sooth the old muscles! Shame about your mk1 Sterling by the way, I was looking forward to seeing that again.

Official start time is 10am. I'm aiming for about 11 myself. Still not sure which Citroen to take.

Well that's me out. You'd think owning a 1 year old Kia would mean reliability if nothing else. Alas, a very knackered wheel bearing combined with infuriating incompetence from the dealers means that instead of it being fixed today like it should have been, I need to take it back again next week when the part arrives. The part they've had over a week to order. It's short trips only until then. Never mind, it was probably a bit of a daft idea in the first place!

I can't believe how many cars I missed! At half one, I decided I was cold and wet enough and headed off to a relative's for tea and warmth - spotting Catsinthewelder's BX as I went.

I'm very glad I missed this however...

Stolen from the interwebs. "Designed by Rover, improved by me" Er, no. Improving isn't the word you are looking for.

It was a good show nice that its free to get in too. There was some nice old car there but some of the modern stuff were proper chaved up shit like that yellow MG ZR that was done up like a christmas tree.

What is it with 75 owners and stick-on shit?

This was there yesterday - its not just 75 owners

Weirdly that almost works

Now imagine a world where the Rover group needed a new small car in the range after the Metros demise but got one that used the same 1.5 diesel engine :o

That Saxo has to be someone with a bet to see if they can get into the event, surely?

The Citroen, what the hell man?

Mind you, a couple of years ago I did turn up to POL in the Micra, I probably should have done the same thing and stuck an 800 grille to it.

Did anyone see the Triumph Acclaim with 'tuned by Mugen' stickers and home made sunstrip with 'Honda' written on it? Not only did the owner have poor taste, but I think was confused as to what car he owned.

Re non Rovers there, there was a lovely Humber Super Snipe which I think had come with the Cowley lot, allowed in due to the fact the bodies were made at Pressed Steel. Guess you could have got a RR Silver Shadow in on that basis as well!
