New Shite... MAESTRO - LET'S GO!

A combination of not being on here for a while, overuse of the Autoshite facebook page and having only a 2.3 automatic Volvo estate for transport meant that I have been very weak and spunked some eurodollarpounds on this...

... a 1987 Austin Maestro 1.6L in a sort of slightly rusty red. It's done 59k miles, has a full service history until July 2008, came taxed and MOT'd and was a little over 30 miles away. I have no epic collection thread as the bloke delivered it to my nearest train station. It's not the tidiest and has a few issues (clutch is a bit dicky for a start) but it was cheap and it is gloriously shit. Some more pics for your appreciation and wonderment...

Comments welcomed - also, does anyone have any spare Monstro seatbelts lying about? I appear to have lost all the release clips except the driver's...

Looks quite reasonable for its age :)

The AA pamphlet about the M25 is intriguing.

I approve of this. What the are 1.6s like then? The 1.3 seems pretty capable as long as you don't mind NEGATIVE ACCELERATION, the bigger lump must make them seem pretty quick I'd imagine?

Brilliant, takes me back to my Maestro driving days. Looks really tidy as it goes, have you tried the owners forum for parts?

I remember looking at that on Gumtree and wondering if it would end up on here, I was almost tempted myself.

Looks okay does that, engine bay looks particularly free of oil. I imagine it's quite fun to drive as it looks like you've got the earlier comfortable seats and a manual box to make the best of that 1.6 lump.

Quite delightful!

I like the accurate representation of it as a circle of gridlock!

I've always had a soft spot for Maestro's and that one looks nice and original.

Should clean up nicely that.

Holy shit you are guaranteed to be beating off the gels with an abnormaly sized stick once they know you're rolling in a Maestro

Top marks, that looks pretty sound and honest. I'm feeling quite nostalgic now as my parents had one in the same colour on an A plate back in the early nineties, identical to this one.

I remember very little about it apart from rusty wheelarches, an overwhelmingly chocolate brown interior and overheating in summer traffic. By their previous car standards, it was superb.
