Anyone want a Saab 900 turbo

Right, I'm sick of the sight of this, and it's taking up space other shite could be using. It's been advertised for a while and I was thinking about dropping the price a bit. Before I do that I thought I'd offer it here... there will be quite a bit of a shiters discount if any genuine shiter is interested.

Model: Saab 900 Turbo 16S

Year: 1990

Mileage: 174k

Tax: April 2013

MOT: Sept 2013

Location: Lincs - about 10 miles south of Lincoln

Price: £995

Contact details: post or pm

I got this out of hibernation a few weeks ago and put it in for an MOT, after being in storage for nearly a year it went through the MOT without anything being needed. The only advisories were slight cracking on front brake flexi's.

2 Door Saloon, high pressure turbo 16v. In my ownership, and the last 2000 miles its had new clutch, slave cyl and replacement radiator & thermostat.

This is a classic Saab, not GM, so qualifies for cheap classic insurance.

This is the rarer 2dr notchback, it still has a huge boot and has lots of space inside. Its just stiffer and handles better than the 3dr.

In general its in good condition, but as most cars could do with a bit of tlc. Theres a couple of bits of rust starting to come through, but nothing major, bottom of drivers door, petrol flap & edge of boot. The dashboard top is cracked and the drivers electric window is slow.

Central locking works, electric ariel works, electric mirrors work & Panasonic cd player fitted.

The turbo boosts well, and overtaking is a breeze. The gearbox works as it should and does not jump out of any gear.

The car comes with a wallet full of history.

I've had 2 people actually turn up to view it (more timewasters and no shows) both thought the doors and boot need replacing as they are a bit rusty. I think they could be repaired, but replacing them would be easier. There are currently 2 red doors on ebay for £35 each, if I could be arsed I'd get them and swap them with the current ones, but I'd rather be playing with my Diahatsu's or Lancia than fixing a car I want to sell.

Mechanically it is sound, and I'd drive it anywhere.

That pandaselecta dude had great difficulty getting rid of his very nice-looking Saab turbo, although he is the most cack-handed salesman of all time so maybe that’s why rather than owt to do with the car.

Ludicrous. Seems great value. Where are you advertising it?

Retrorides, car&classic, saab forum - I've also tried Pistonheads, and autotrader.

I've been avoiding ebay, although that may be my next option :?

I was looking (online not in person) at some other really tidy looking examples a few months ago which were about £700-£1000. I was considering getitng one but ended up with the Audi Coupe instead. There is absolutley no love for these (or Audi Coupes for that matter) at the moment which makes it the perfect time to buy them but the worst time to sell.

That is lovely like. I would love it myself really but no, not until I have sorted out some of my other cars.

Just got rid of one, thanks.

They do seem to be quite hard cars to shift sometimes, despite their 'classic' status they're just not that popular. I had mine on sale a few times over the years I had it, each time getting nothing but timewasters ("OMG there's a wee bit of rust on the front wing") and hopeful kids ("Yeah I'm only 17, but I'll get insurance for it no problems").

Yours is a lovely looking car with the Aero kit and the alloys, £995 is no money at all for one of these if you look at what it can do compared to other sub-£1000 cars.

Good luck with it. :D

What sort of shiter's discount, is there any shite you'd consider as a swapsie?

If it's anything like my 9-3 Turbo, once the boost kicks in it turns into an animal. I remember when I got it coming down the slip road to a motorway and flooring it in third and the whole thing just lurched a torque-steering 30 degrees.

You can't get a car as well built or as quirky as this, that's fast as well for under 1k.

Nice car. I've always loved every Saab turbie I've owned -they make magnificent towcars!!

Good luck with it -I'd be tempted if I wasnt deluged right now

stick it on the bay bro, they're making reasonable money on there.

I haven't got the time/patience to deal with the usual ebay mongs ....

I'm working 10-12hrs a day atm, and am away quite a bit as well, which reminds me - I need to book a hotel for Edinburgh.

I'm surprised it hasn't sold, I thought they were more popular than this. Trevor said he would have had it if it had been a hatchback.; I'll ask about, see if anyone else fancies it.

Must be fuel and insurance costs keeping these fine cars values from going crazy, they really were a wonderful machine, and seemed to improve once they got their first 100K behind them, nicely bedded in.

i love that, with regards to fuel, i have done over 2000 miles of spirited driving in mine over the last month or so, it has done about 30 mpg which im well impressed by, i think they must vary a wee bit as my vert is a little more thirsty. 2dr is super rare, i prefer them without the tuppa ware though. :)

Cheers for the comments guys, I really didn't expect it to be hard to sell.

Insurance - classic insurance is cheap, so that shouldn't be off putting.

Fuel - when I was working locally I was averaging about 30mpg, and on a run would see around 37, so it's not bad on fuel either. Remarkably good when you remember its 20+yrs old turbo charged motor.

As KS said, these are rare, I read somewhere they sold under 300 T16's in 2dr flavour, which do handle better than the 3dr.

Bloody hell, Chris, that looks mega VFM. Would have thought it was ideal RR or PH fodder really, and regarding people moaning about the doors and boot they look ok from the outside to me so surely any new owner could get jiggy with some fibreglass/filler?

I often wonder if people these days are too bloody fussy tbh, years back most of us would have taken great delight in buying a tub of Isopon and some rattle cans, whereas todays kids only seem interested in trying to get everything for nothing because they think a scratch or dent on a 15 year old car is the end of the world.

Cheers for the comments Billy.

I do have a backup plan, due to my working away a bit and being unavailable for quite a bit of time a mate has offered to sell it for me, so I may take him up on the offer. He's home every day and generally has a bit more free time (an patience) than I do when it comes to flogging motors.
