Today I rediscovered my old builder's bucket of die cast cars, and found a complete Matchbox Matra Rancho in yellow, equipped with fully operation rear fold down door. Are these rare, couldn't imagine the attraction for them at the time.

I've got loads of Burago (I think - they're the standard 12 inch ones) cars still in boxes that I got in the 80's. I'm going to have to dig them out.

Would anyone be interested in this copy of "Diecast Monthly"?

Although purporting to be a magazine, it's really a thinly-disguised sales catalogue, but there's some nice stuff in it that I cannpt afford.

Nice to see my Capri modelled in NC's collection! (Even if it's not mine any more... who will be first to post up a Miami Blue Granada?)

I only have one model car- Christine!!, 1958 Plymouth Fury (from the film Christine)..

She's around a foot long and has smashing detail, the doors, bonnet and boot open, there's working steering and the headlights work due to two three volt lithium batteries 8)

Bought this from Modelzone for a mere 9.99

After a quick look I'm not entirely sure if it's easily detachable from the box or not. Also bought a Brera but it was of such naff quality I gave it straight to my Mum for her to give away in her school fete

Then this Commodore off ebay, similar to the one I had in NZ

And yes, there is a Ford sticker on the base :?

Mondo Motors Brera by any chance?

Hmmm

I had forgotten about these from in the loft....

Tamiya Top force, it has an electronic speed controller that i can't seem to set correctly (jerking back'ards and for'ards :( )

It goes like stink when it feels like it though..

I have another one similar but haven't taken a pic of it, mainly due to not knowing where the hell i put it

Try swapping the speed controller out temporarily and see if it still a problem them, if it is still a problem on the new one your receiver/aerials borked (its what happened to my subaru brat - it took me three months to find that one out!).

Yep. Thought the fact it was wonky in the packet was due to the angle of the base, but it was infact leaning over to one side. Oh well only 2.99 so no great loss

Haha, I still have the 2WD QuickDrive version of this. It's battered but still works perfectly.

Hmmmm. I had a Tamiya Subaru Brat, but mine was on the same chassis as my mate's Monster Beetle which looks like the chassis in that MB picture.

Were the shells interchangable, or did I have some bizarre hybrid Monster Brat?

What you had there was a Tamiya Mud Blaster

getuserimage.asp?t=g&id=img261_09112002223401_1_350.jpg

Same Chassis as the Monster Beetle but had friction dampers as opposed to oil filled items that the Beetle had.

Body shells are interchangeable but the corresponding body mounts would be needed. The original Brat also used a similar chassis.

Inspired by the Lightup Christine model i set about lighting up the first of the set display models so....

It was indeed a Mud Blaster, I remember now! I had three shells, an original mint red one with decals, a lime green one with the same decals, and a white one with Ford zebra stripes. Hey, it was the 90s ;) It also had the oil dampers from a Monster Beetle and I made a few other mods.... faster motor (supposedly) and proper bearings instead of the nylon ones.

Do they fetch much? I sold mine for about £15......

edit: Yes. Gulp. £280-£350 for a NIB unbuilt one, and £100 for a built used one. Bugger.

Posted

Old Tamiyas do fetch strong money nowadays. The old 3-speed Hi-lux and Blazers fetch upwards of £350 for one that need restoring for example.

Put this on hold for now, may even offer some up for sale in the future if anyone is interested.

Actually may as well, I have a Bronze MKIII Cortina by Vanguards, which I no longer need. The Fern Green one is the only one I need, how does a tenner including postage sound? I think they are worth a little bit more than that, sold out quickly from what I heard.

Also, when is the Vanguards Cortina MKIV actually being released? I pre ordered mine in June FFS.

My Canadian cousin brought me copies of 'Car Trader', that country's version of Autotrader I suppose, way back in 1988.

2 of the cars I remember most from the pages were the North American Ford Escort and the 80's Ford Tempo, mainly for their likeness to the European Escort and Sierra.

I have heard of the 'Fresh Cherries' brand and they make some top quality American shite.

I just purchased these 2 tonight :D

On a visit to Canada in 93 the hire car we had was a brand new Ford Tempo. 1.6 auto with power everything. When the aircon cut in you lost 5 - 10kmh and when it cut out you gained the same amount - pure and utter autoshite :D:D:D:D:D:D
