Its a povo spec 1.4 with windy up windows , no central locking and a cassette deck, however it has a leccy sunroof???? Lets just say it was very very cheap.

Posted

But is it worse than the Polo I have just ditched?

Posted

R reg still seems really new to me, never owned a car that young

Posted

me too, but I'll make a profit by scrapping it so it was rude to say no.

Posted

Blimey -thats a change of direction. You going repping or summit?

Posted

Nah, a Nigerian friend of mine went back home, leaving this in my hands!

Posted

It's not shite...............it's shit!Keep a stock of head gaskets lying around......and plenty of coolant........I suppose it's at least worth it's weight in scrap!

Posted

An R-reg motor with no central locking? You're having a laugh. Just as well it was cheap. And what is this, pound shop wheel trim week? 8)

Posted

why WHY WHY have you bought that, really, why?

Posted

Did you mean leaky sunroof? (design-wise I kinda like it.. )

Posted

cut the cat off, weigh that in,fill the shell with scrap and send that over the scales aswell, ftw :?

Posted

Excellent bizarre spec there! :D How cheap was it, and any tax or MOT? I'd be tempted to run it into the ground before weighing it in, at least to get some use out of it.

Best thing for it. Had a newer one that was nice to drive and like totally amazing on fuel. But it sucked big time. Even the RAC couldn't fix the bastard when some stupid pulley or other let go on a bypass.

If it runs and drives alright, why not just polish it up and punt it on?Seems daft to just run it into the ground and weigh it in, it's not exactly utterly unsaleable! It's a low spec, but on the other hand it's in the cheap tax bracket and is a pretty well known 5 door hatchback. Unless it's utterly knackered I can't see why it should go over the weighbridge.

Haha I love how everyone is dissing this car and my sanity in purchasing it.I haven't told you the price yet!£0Now who's laughing!?

£0 is the best price. So, true you can't lose. Still dreadful though, and you will LOOK like a loser.

I think they are OK, serves a purpose of getting the bread knife to the shops and drop the kids off. I paid a lot more than zero for hers though :? I'm sure in 20 years time the modern day renault 4 will be getting admiring ebay glances from you guys on here.....

Kangoo?

I think the Megane will be be coveted along the same lines as the R11 is today.

Fifteen years ago people were chucking Renault 12s at me and I'm sure most folk at the time thought they were rubbish. If it grows on you then good - keep it and use it. If you find you don't like it, then its all profit for you!

Its lineage is obvious

Ten years from now: "why did you bin that", etc

Posted

That's the solution then. Stuff it in a barn & leave it there until the rest have gone. No? I was actually thinking about this today, contemplating 'barning' our Focus for a bit.

You wouldn't even have to Sorn it. Just open the shed doors in about a fortnight

I would certainly not sniff at it. My Dad had a 19 about 15 years ago. Dont think you will ever achieve a high mileage in one (not seen a 19 for a while actually), and i know of more than 1 that have been scrapped because of the cost of repairing the clutch (its an engine out job). But if its still running, what the hell. Cant say there is anything fundamentally wrong with them. In fact i liked the 19. Maybe thats because the car i was driving before that was a Nissan Sunny....I actually just got a Citroen Xsara for the same price as that. Not going to take it cruizin' but it gets me about cheaply.

As long as it starts, drives and is road legal I would use it.Not much point in binning a car that does the above 3 IMO.Not bad for free and at least you get to bask in its glorious specification! After the car fails to do the above, then I'd get rid at that point :)

We had a 19 for a few years. It was a povo spec too, but a 1.9D. I thought it was a great car. The 19 appeared to be a mildly facelifted 9 and I expect the Megane is quite similar. Not the most exciting car but they seem to do their job well enough.

Makes my electric heated mirrors but keep fit windows spec Felicia seem good!

Futureshite for sure. A bloke I know got a green one of those,a year newer and RT spec with 11 months ticket. £70. A day with Autoglym Super Resin Polish and the Meguairs 1-2-3 system should see your red motor come up a treat.BUT - be sure to put a box of hankies on the parcel shelf and go out at 7.30am and drive at 40 in the centre lane of the motorway :P

On the subject of weird spec, we hired this pile of shite for a lengthy trip away from Edinburgh back in May

1.6 donk, which when laden with tons of MG Midgit crap in the back had all the acceleration of a misfiring Fiat 126. Making the standard-fit cruise control all the more unfathomable

Incidentally - I never figured out how to get the bonnet open. Unless of course you need a Renner special tool so as regular fucktards can't get in there and screw up the oily bits?
