Saw this on ARonline... what a waste ! Why would you weigh in something as tidy as this for less than a couple of hundred quid? Local to me too - its in U Pull It in Inverkeithing.

There really are some nuggets out there...

On a side note I was pissed off this week as the girlfriend's mother bought a new motor - (from our very own kinkersaab's garage apparently)

Anyway she'd been driving a mid nineties silver 323 for a decade or more that had nothing wrong with it other than a leaky sunroof - less than 100k on the clock and taxed and tested. She told me last week she was going to scrap it at which I protested loudly and said I'd find it a home, and told her I'd collect it on Sunday... She agreed

Arrived there yesterday to be told she weighed it in on saturday because she "didnt want to inconvienience" me and got £100. I had a mate who's currently carless and desperate for a cheapo happy to give her £350 for it.... instead a perfectly good motor went over the bridge, she lost money and my mate is still stuck... That and I had to buy a last minute train ticket the 100 miles home which left me out of pocket too.:roll:

I don't get this. If this had been paraded around classic car shows, as the picture in the BINIOnline article suggests, then how could the owner be under any illusion about its real worth?

When i read about episodes like this i'm not sure how to react..............my first one is to find this moron and beat some sense into him. Why oh why would anyone with any sense do this? Its totaly pointless.

There must be more to this. Could be the owner died, got divorced, or got fed up of trying to sell it to the endless fuckwits that populate the used car market

I would have thought a Horizon would be quite popular as a modern starter classic as they are simple to repair!! Certainly whenever one turns up on e-bay they always seem to sell and attract a few bids!

What is a real shame is that must be one of the earliest on a 'T' plate, most of the ones that survive seem to be series 2 models!!

ahhh. The lady with the mazda. bought a Hyundau coupe. Her mazda sunroof was "sealed up" not because it leaked, but because spiders were getting in.... :)

Yeah she's pleased with the Hyundai apparently - I'm pissed off at her sending the mazda to Overton's though. Nuts!

The original plan was for her daughter to drive it down to me on the friday - but she refused saying it might break down. I asked her when it last broke down - she said it never had

Thats when I said I'd come up on the Sunday, then she weighs it in! Theres no arguing with middle aged woman logic...

I read that earlier, it's a very sad story and what I don't get is that it had been on the show scene so surely the owner had some idea of its value and/or the sort of people who could be interested. Weighing it in for a measly 140 notes just smacks of a lack of effort from someone who really couldn't be bothered.

Is there any way back once a CoD has been issued? If you show the car to the DVLA and prove it hasn't been destroyed is there any scope for rescinding the CoD and issuing a new V5?

Once the CoD has been issued, it is tin can time.

That must have been bloody frustrating for you.

Re: the Horizon - such a sodding shame as there are not that many of these things left and that looked bloody decent. Arse biscuits.

I'm confused as to how this can happen. The owner didn't think to sell it on the open market and the scrap dealer didn't think to sell it on when they took delivery of it, instead issuing a COD.

Funny things happen though. Maybe the old giffer owner died and his widow couldn't bear to see it sold onto someone else, instead insisting it was crushed?
