Expect more of this given the sales success of the Evoque. Although this must have been in development well before that was known about - maybe MINI had a spy at Gaydon?

I looked at the title quickly and though it said mini pacman lol bit I am disappointed now looking at that monstrosity, I am not a bmw mini fan anyway so I am a bit biased

Isn't the Evoque a poor copy of some Korean thing that's been on the go for years?

As far as I know it was cobbled together with Ford, Volvo and Jap n German bits.

Coming soon:

The MINI Wankman - a convertible countryman

The Mini Cuntman D Cooper Works - a four wheel drive diesel LWB Clubman convertible

The Mini Twatman - a four wheel drive diesel LWB Clubman Coupe with eight seats and nine doors

Suddenly- the original 2001 MINI looks like quite a neat idea.

Fact: I nearly bought a 2007 Mini. It actually made a lot of sense - good resales, a decent diseasel engine, and the reliability is good (at least compared to the competition). Lack of interior room for doing 7-800 miles a week carting around loads of kit from work killed the idea. Anyway, the point is that the "OMG WHAT HAVE THEY DONE" has sort of died off, they're too much of a common sight.

The Paceman though, as with the Countryman, is fugging ugly and has no need to exist. If their trend continues (noting those pictures have no idea of scale to them), the Paceman is the size of a Leyland Atlantean.

If you remove the name Mini (because calling it MINI doesn't really distance itself from a Mini) then it seems to be a car designed in the contemporary style and built in the UK which gives a few people some jobs. That's a good thing, I'd say.

garethj's verdict: meh

Fucking ugly but I'm sure it will sell.

I'm still waiting to see if they make a 'Triumph' TR9. They had planned to make a small sports car based on the MINI and call it this.

It's a Freelander, which is a Volvo S80.

The Pacman will sell, which is all that matters. If it comes off the 4x4 production line then it'll be built in Austria, too.

Never mind bonnet mascots and hub caps, the latest trend amongst the yoof will be stealing the E from the Paceman's boot.

stick a mini badge on anything and the 'trendies' will buy it, they are just milking the name (brand) for all it's worth - it's just business I guess.

Really? I like my S80, it drives very nicely and handles extremely well for a large car ... Don't think I'd like it with big ghey wheels and jacked up suspension though.

Anyway - mini - meh, not interested.

^yep, just shows how on-road oriented the new Freelander is.

re Minis, I think it's a good job BMW made the new one, not Rover's design office:

These were a couple of their proposed "successor" concepts

That first one would've sold quite well with smaller arches I recon. Could've been a success.

The second one was probably designed around the time of the Daihatsu Move etc so that was probably the thinking there. Looks bad though!

I rather like it.

Tartan red with a black roof and that would be ace.

Awaits
