eBay tits!

Last week, I had a listing for an air filter for a Pug 106 - I'd bought the wrong one for the wife's car a few years back. I underestimated the postage costs/prices have gone up since it was first listed, but I wasn't expecting someone from Belgium to attempt to buy it off of eBay.

Hello,

I want to buy your item for 7 GBP incl postage small parcel (4,25) royal mail

weighs <500 g

I'll pay with PayPal

please contact me

pavb (at) myonline (be)

best regards,

Hello, the postage alone to Belgium is over £10, so you'd be better off buying one locally to you.

Regards

An over estimation, I know, but nevertheless...

Thanks for your message but I believe this is definitely not true as you can see at Royal Mail's website it's only 4,22-4,82 GBP for Small Parcel <500g via surface to Europe or even Small Parcel normal <500g to Europe 4,25-4,86 GBP (+VAT I know)

see :

http (colon) slash slash c435158.r58 (dot) cf3 (dot) rackcdn (dot) com (slash) Royal (underscore) Mail (underscore) Our (underscore) Prices (dot) pdf

So if you are willing to send the item to me, I will pay you via PayPal then.

Best regards

I weighed it yesterday in a sturdy enough box for posting as the original has lost all of its strength - somewhere around the 600-700g mark, once finished. I forgot to reply/couldn't be arsed. So this morning:

DID you see the leaflet/website of Royal Mail with tariff to Belgium and are you still willing to sell the item to me at the price suggested ?

Thanks for answering,

Best regards,

Once the item is inside a package that will withstand posting to anywhere it is over 700 grams which cost more than the insulting £4.95 that you wish to pay. Then there's the fuel in travelling to the Post Office, the cost of the packaging itself and the rest, so the cost is far higher than that.

So, NO. I am not prepared to post this item to you.

If you leave it in the original box it only weighs 438 g and it can never be damaged that way as made from paper/cardboard

It's a pity you won't sell it to me at gbp 4,86 + 3 GBP = 7,86 GBP

I'll buy it elsewhere then

Which is what he should have done originally - but it did make me laugh, though!

I do need to revise my postage prices when I come to re-list on the next free listing weekend, however.

Bleh. I'm surprised people are prepared to spend so much time to save €0.37* when they could just do and get a no-hassle version from their local shop. They must be unemployed or their time wouldn't be worth it.

Belgians are reknowned pedantic fucks when it comes to eBay dealings. I had one neg me for "overcharging" by 50p on the postage.

The only Europeans I sell to now on eBay besides the UK 8) are France and Germany.

Belguim is in europe

500 grams = 4.82

I usually set the listing up to be UK only. A couple of times I've forgotten and had foreign buyers win but seem to have been lucky so far... The ford dealership photos I sold recently were bought by a German he was happy to pay the airmail signed for premium as I wasn't prepared to sent rare negatives via international post!

Meh!

Sold my Powabyle X24 off ebay last night for £300, bearning in mind it looks practiaclly new but had a crank sensor issue (£25) i was quite happy to accept this cash in hand and no ebay / paypal fees. Brand new they go for between £550 and £1000 depending on where you buy.

This morning I awake to the usual emails "why did you end the auction I was going to bid at the last second" and so on. But the one that made me chuckle (*because he obvioulsy didnt bother looking at the bid history) was "Im sorry it didnt sell, I'll give you £10 and collect tonight".

:D

My gods, its affecting electric bikes now.

Quick! Tell the MOD they are wasting billions of £s on expensive MRAPs when they could be making armoured cars out of paper instead.

The twats that make me want to stab them in the eyes with an icepick most are the ones that choose 2nd class Saturday night and then are screaming for a tracking number Monday morning 'cos the 99p crap they've bought is a present for someone they don't like much.

Closely followed by the mongs who want to keep you waiting in all day so they can collect to save £2 on post and use £5 in petrol in the process.

I love being a powerseller :(

i much prefer cash pick up, no paypal fees and sometimes you can sell them something else or at least get contact details for other things they want.

ebay is a good shop window, but you have to deal with the loons

I couldn't quite believe the tightness and pedantry of this eBay user - I'm a Scot living in Yorkshire, (who brings his own lunch and coffee to classic car shows  ) so I know something about being tight!

Living the dream right now. (Edit: if it's anyone on here, my apologies for calling you out as a mong, but I'm sure it won't be)

Someone best offered the Tralier Tent. I accepted their first offer  just because I really could do with some actual readies right now in my hand, rather than fannying about with counter offers like I usually would, and probably should have.

So I send the invoice and the usual, "ooh, well done, contact me thusly, cash on collection preferred so you can have a look, etc, when you coming for it?"

Almost exactly 24hours pass and I get:

"Hi. We'll pick it up at the weekend. It said on the auction £50 deposit, but ebay is asking me for the full price of the trailer."

Reply within 5 minutes saying, "oh don't worry about that. I'll send you a paypal request for the £50 if you'd prefer to pay desposit. When can you come as I'm on nights at the weekend, so I'll need some notice to arrange me being awake." And sent a paypal request for £50"

Almost exactly 24 hours pass (but not quite, she's a bit early today):

"Please send me the total amount for ebay item.... please send me an invoice for the total amount that I owe you.... I would like to have the item sent to the address below... etc." Followed by "hi could i not just pay you on pickup or do you have to go through paypal regards Marjorie".

My questions are:

- Are you only allowed on the internet once a day?

- If so, can you guarantee you'll be allowed out to collect the trailer?

- Thirdly do you bank with RBS?

Some people, e.g. me, often are only on the internet once a day. And she wants to pay the whole lot in one go rather than faffing around with Pantspal. Which is fair enough, although she should respect your request for a deposit, really.

(It's not me, by the way, although your trailer tent did look qualz, Mrs_Ceri would never have gone for it, and I have nowhere to put it.)

I gave a random set of Peugeot rear shocks to a fellow in Ireland.

According to royal mail website the cost would be £25 to post.

Bloke in Ireland sends me paypal for £25

When I go back in to royal mail web site it still say £25, but when I actually click on "buy" it magically goes up to £32.

few months back I was off loading a load of range rover bits including a set of original but used speakers. nowt special but working, start bid 99p

adamp 169 contacts me to cancel auction and BIN them to him for £30.

I say "good offer but i'll keep the auction running, bung in a bid as there is a good chance you'll have them for way less than £30 in 3 days time!"

Auction ends at £5.50 but not to adamp 169!! Go figure.

then 2 h after auction ends he send me a message "I missed the bid I am willing to offer £30 or more to have these. Thanks" and then goes into a series of pestering messages begging me for em.

Original buyer had paypalled me on auction end.

What is the betting that selling to adamp would have been a world of pain? :P

btw was expecting something a bit more Bristol'ee out of this thread
