Honda Quintet

Just a quick Hello and introduction from me and my faithful compainion - my 83 Quintet. I've been lurking around on here most of the afternoon and I've liked what I've seen. I thought you may appreciate a few pictures....

I bought it as a one owner car with 71k from new, the usual story, elderly gent owned from new, only used to travel to the shops and back, always garaged, owner passed away and his wife couldn't drive. Found itself sat the back of a gravel car park next to an old garage with a ticket in the window. After 30 seconds of sensible concideration towards running costs and where to put it, a hand shake was made and the deal was done.

Interior condition was/ is nothing short of mint, came with almost every MOT ticket and some service history. Found the original spare wheel and a bottle of dealership screenwash 8)

The exterior does need an over haul, its had some repairs to the doors in its life which has left them looking creased and dented.

There's also some minor rust issues to tackle, biggest of which will be a patch of rot at the bottom of the A pillar.

Unfortuantly parts are hard to come by and I have been dissapointed before by someone claiming to have parts that I wanted and having next to nothing of any real use.

The old girl is looking like this at the moment until i can afford the materials and proffessional labour (where needed) to get her 100% again

These were taken in May on the Isle Of Wight. The car is used daily and has just hit 74,500 and apart from having the carb tuned it's been brilliant and done everything that's been asked of it. It's in daily use and is very econimical for its age and can shift when it needs to!

Much like most cars of its age It's a faithful old friend that will put a smile on your face for not much money :)

Thanks for looking

Mods; I'm not entirely sure if I've posted in the correct place, if not feel free to move me!

Never even heard of a Honda Quintet before now - although it looks familiar!

Welcome :D

Welcome to the forum, I think I've seen this over on RR, I haven't see a Quintet for years, That must be one of the very last left, Well done on saving it.

My dad bought one new in 1984. It was a lovely thing and I was hacked off when he chopped it in for a Volvo 340

There was a metallic blue Quintet that I used to see quite regularly around Norwich about 5-6 years ago. Haven't seen it for a while now though so don't know if it's still alive.

Cor, what a stunner! Fabulous interior. Does the clock work? Might need a closer look at that. Looks like digital-effect but with rolling digits or something?

I don't think I've ever seen one on the road - the name must have also referred to the sales figures. I've scanned the brochure into my thread below if you're interested

Wow haven't seen one of these for years, not since my cousin was driving round in a very delapidated one twenty years ago!!

Nice one, welcome along!

You'll fit right in here with that most excellent motor. A green one used to live round the corner from me, probably 15 years ago, but I've never seen another so I'm glad at least one survives.

Survivors of these must be into single figures now, they rank in the Autoshite Hall Of Fame right up there with the Tredia, Tagora, Renault 14 and Chrysler 180 so well done on saving it. I've always wanted one of these for the pure obscurity factor and they do seem wonderfully practical car. Not sure why sales weren't higher, my English teacher had one in about 1986. I've often thought that this would have made an ideal companion for the Acclaim and replaced the Maxi perfectly. They were after all sold as Rovers in Australia.

Now, they do say if you haven't anything positive to say then don't say anything at all but I have to be honest and say I'm not a big fan of the Golf-looklike thing you've got going on with rack, stocker bombing and German style plates. It's nice to see you're enthusiastic about it but I'm not sure it works to be perfectly honest, and it's not something I would have done especially with them being so rare. I know nothing is irreversible and it's not as if there are tons of people queueing up wanting a Quintet but that's just my feeling on this one.

I honestly can't remember the last time I saw one of these, great save

Tayne, it was on an A plate - I'll dig out a picture of it.

Good to see a Quintet still in use, they didn't sell many as it was sold alongside the superior Accord for reasons only known by Honda!

I've never even heard of this model before. Just checked my Parkers Older Car Price Guide from 1998 and its listed in there they also list another Honda ive never heard of the Integra.

I'm amazed that you own a copy of the Parkers OCPG from '98 and yet you still haven't heard of an Integra! Surely the first thing one does when they obtain a copy of that publication is to spend the free time that would otherwise be wasted when astride the khazi reading Parkers from cover to cover, pausing only to consult AutoTrader?

Just me, then?

Thanks for the replies, really didn't expect that big of a reaction!

Thanks for your opinion, the car won't stay like this. I'm just having some fun with it while it looks a bit of a state :)

Also thank you Native Creep for the link to the brochure, it was an interesting read! And to answer dollywobblers question, yes, the clock still works and it is one that flips over :)

The only thing that doesn't work as it should is the boot release lever next the drivers seat but after 30 years of service you can't complain!

Wow! 8) That interior is unmistakably early 1980s. That clock and the Honda badge are nice period details.

The last time I saw a Quintet was a few years ago parked outside a block of council flats. It was a blue one with alloy wheels so it must have been a top spec one.

The Quintet must have been a direct rival to the Datsun/Nissan Stanza.

I think it was a good deal more expensive than a Stanza - maybe the 1.8SGL ran it close. I recall a WhatCar group test featuring the Qunitet - maybe Trigger has a scan.

Never knowingly seen a Quintet, ever. Even with the alloys and mildly grotty bits, I'd effin' smash that.

Top save!
