Jack_Harpers_Teeth Posted May 6, 2012 Posted May 6, 2012 Saw Dad today, he finally had uploaded some of his old 35mm slides onto an external hard drive, so here is a selection from my past, excuse the giant hair (seen in most pictures), I sincerely hope it is a hair on the lens and not a re-run of The Omen . Our old Morris 1300 This is the shop we bought in 1973, L to R you see my uncle's Daimler 250, the shop's Mini van and our old Super Minx Estate. Another picture of shop before my parent bought it. Heathrow airport (I think) My Mum "look kids a 747.." My Brother: "Look a doggie" Marina battle the hordes of Cowes Week revealers cira 1975. Me kite flying ....watch out for that hair.... Taking a break from kite flying (and hair dodging) to lean against that Hillman Super Minx (only thing it was bloody fit for ). Shock..Horror..Speeding Grandad nearly mows 70's family down in cold blood. Corfe Castle Dorset I think.... 'bout time got double glazing? Aunties. Aunt & Uncle.
vulgalour Posted May 6, 2012 Posted May 6, 2012 Of all those, I can't figure out what the car is in the background of the penultimate picture. I'm thinking it could be a Vauxhall because it looks like a scaled down American car, but beyond that I'm stumped.
eddyramrod Posted May 6, 2012 Posted May 6, 2012 The car parked beyond the van? Looks like a Ford 100E to me, or just possibly a Mk1 Consul. Now if you want American, there seems to be a blue Oldsmobile passing on the other side of the road...
Mash Posted May 7, 2012 Posted May 7, 2012 Brilliant, I love old family slides especially if there's bonus shite content.
vulgalour Posted May 7, 2012 Posted May 7, 2012 @eddy: I meant the one you've identified as an Oldsmobile, thank you
barrett Posted May 7, 2012 Posted May 7, 2012 These are really great, thanks for sharing. I probably would've been a bit clueless about the big Yank too, were it not for the fact that one has a co-staring role in The Sopranos so I recognised it instantly!
boobydoo Posted May 7, 2012 Posted May 7, 2012 Cool pics. Judging by the clothes ,I'd have placed the second photo late sixties rather than '73...unless the woman on the left was maybe on her way to a Helen Shapiro look-a-like contest? A few little extras on the Austin in pic 1: mudflaps, door protectors, wing mirrors and quite snazzy looking wheeltrims! Nice.
Jack_Harpers_Teeth Posted May 7, 2012 Author Posted May 7, 2012 Cool pics. Judging by the clothes ,I'd have placed the second photo late sixties rather than '73...unless the woman on the left was maybe on her way to a Helen Shapiro look-a-like contest? Yes sorry, I didn't make that very clear did I? We bought the shop in 1973, the other pictures are as you say from an earlier time (late 60's) A few little extras on the Austin in pic 1: mudflaps, door protectors, wing mirrors and quite snazzy looking wheeltrims! Nice. Yes Dad always took a pride in his cars, the Austin (which was a Morris btw) was well loved, until it failed it's MoT on rust, a friend of a friend decided that it needed "a whole new floor" so he welded one in over the course of weekend. It failed it's Mot again and Dad (so disheartened) sold it on to buy an quartic wheeled Allegro (which in all the 20 + years he owned it it never was welded) . Problem with the 1300 was there was an old chap who lived over the way from us who owned a couple of Minis, whenever he spotted Dad he would wander over and drag him away to show him what he had done to the Minis, this annoyed Dad intensely, but being the mild mannered polite man he is went along with it, often I would come out on a Sunday to tell Dad that Sunday dinner was being "dished up" to find the 1300 with a cold bucket of water standing beside it and a dried out sponge sitting on the roof. Yes Mini man had got him! The answer? Employ my Brother to wash the car; for 50p he got a clean car and no Mini man.
Jack_Harpers_Teeth Posted June 22, 2012 Author Posted June 22, 2012 More... Dad's Ford "Pop" circa 1964: Me and brother take a spin... I DO like this one.... Apparently used to drag fishing boats in...someone wasn't watching the tide were they? ^^^ is that a FIAT? More from the 70s; "WHOOSH!"
RobT Posted June 22, 2012 Posted June 22, 2012 Another great piccies thread, cheers for those. SOunds like our Dads are cut from the same cloth - many a sunday roast was missed 'cos he got collared by the boring old bastard with the Rover P6 2 doors down.

Jack_Harpers_Teeth Posted June 22, 2012 Author Posted June 22, 2012 Thanks for that. I am afraid that is the entire collection of slides that feature cars. However, if you want to see pictures of me and my brother as babies....I got a million of 'em!!
worldofceri Posted June 22, 2012 Posted June 22, 2012 I'm loving the shite caravan in the second Ford Pop pic.
