Tonight's one made me laugh, I know these sketches are set up but i did laugh my socks off when the guy was on the toilet on the back of that caravan!, Also found the interview with Rowan Atkinson to be very good as well, I normally fast forwards it or go to the toilet when the interview part comes on so it makes a nice change for someone decent to be on!.

the car train stuff was funny but they have to stop setting stuff on fire...

I thought it was an amusing episode too.

The bit at the end when the 'Peak' smashed into the last caravan made me laugh out loud though :lol::lol:

I assume the Great Central got a bit of coin for it too, so that is a good thing. :D

Despite everythgin they said I would still take the Jag over the Nissan. The GTR just seems too perfect, too clinical to fall in love with

I enjoyed that bit, it instantly reminded me of a publicity stunt in 1984 or there abouts when a 'Peak' hauled train was smashed into a 'nuke' flask wagon on a stretch of test track, just to prove how safe it is to transport spent 'nuke' fuel stuff by rail. I seem to recall it was a class 46 'Peak', which I do have a likeing for as my home depot Laira had an allocation.

How did the 'Topgear' team manage to do all that stuff in this age of 'risk assesment/health & safety'....Preserved railways have low a maximum permited speed which Clarkson appeared to be well over.......

The bit where the train hit the caravan was quality. Fair play to Mr Bean, too. He looked quick on the track, no-drama takeoff and good lines. Gotta agree about the SkylineTGRTRGTR vs Jag. I reckon the Nissan would get on my tits pretty quick.

Only saw some of the train stuff which was funny but boringly predictable in parts too. Used to watch TG religiously but couldn't care if I missed it now.

Nice to actually have a guest on who's actually interested in cars as well, instead of promoting their latest shitty film or tv show

I too would have the Jag over the Nissan... then sell it and bye loads of shite :) win win

Like he said on the show, he does do historic racing, I've seen him at the Goodwood revival for a good few years now.

He did whang his Big mac into the arse of a Metro, mind. Perhaps he's been practicing since :D

25mph, however the Great Central is certified as a test track and has a much higher limit.

I'd go the other way and take the GTR over any Jaguar/Aston Martin. I love Jags and Astons but Nissan have really nailed down the Skyline (Sorry, GTR) to a place that I think many of their rivals could only dream to be. The Jag was dangerously in Aston territory, however I think I would take that over an Aston because it looks so much better and I think Aston died for me when the DB7 went. I love the GTR though and I've only ever seen 2 in the flesh (both owned by doctors on the same road). As for the challenge, to me fairly predictable, but I don't think thats a bad thing as it was fairly funny. Liked the interview too and I think this series has been way better than the last one.

GTR for me every time, shame they dropped the "Skyline" name for this model, think back to how they studied the E-type and Healey 3000 and then created the 240Z, one of the most successful sports cars of all time, and it comes as no surprise it is so much better than it's rivals, with regard to the Aston/Jag scenario it reminds me of the BL days when potentially really great cars suffered from lack of development as they were too close to another model within the parent company's portfolio, the Jag should be equally as good as the Nissan and have more of a raw feel than the Aston as it's pitched at a different (cheaper) market but while ever the Nissan is punching well above it's (financial) weight it doesn't stand a chance.

As for TG itself, if it could resist tearing apart old cars it would be one of the best shows on TV at present, it appeals to a much wider audience as it is now seen as an entertainment programme that just happens to feature cars, with ratings others can only dream of.

Jag for me. May not be as good at going very fast as the GTR but you can't use all that poke on the road anyway.

As for Aston dying with the DB7, I think they only finally came back to life with the DB9. I love the old 70's V8 Vantage, but they got it seriously wrong with the Virage, and the DB7 - whilst having an excellent (although small capacity) engine still has all the problems space wise of the old XJ-S.

Last nights Top Gear wasn't a particularly good one for me, enjoyed Rowan Atkinson, liked the Jag, but I'm not interested in their 'making stuff' challenges. I'd be much happier if they'd go back to smashing up Marinas.

Excellent assassination of the credibility of electric cars last night.

33 grand for that Peugeot is the funniest part of the whole series. That smug voice eminating from the Nissan makes me despise it as well. But as everyone knows, electricity just appears out of thin air so no harm to the environment.

The final story was brilliant. Kind of puts your own life's problems in perspective doesn't it?

Yes, it sure does! Even though we're coping with some major issues here (Won't go into too much detail, except to say my other half has "it" The big C.)

Loved the Lambo too, though I do get what they were saying, up to a point!

Yesterday while arsing around on the computer I stumbled across some footage of Clarkson dropping a skip on a very nice late-model injected Biturbo, then later I saw (again) Stewart Lee's impossibly perfect stand-up piece about TG, both of which made me feel better about my at first glance unjustified inner phenomena of pure slow-burning hatred for the show.

And Clarkson was wearing that same scruffy outfit on Have I Got News For You :shock:

Would any other clown be the same without his red nose and big shoes?

That's twice he's binned (Beaned?) it. I believe he rear-ended a Mini or Metro last time. That said, it was lashing down yesterday. 600 odd horses and no driver aids. Maybe it just bit him.

Only a few weeks ago, when he clocked up the fastest guest star lap on the BBC Top Gear programme, he staunchly defended the McLaren to a presenter Jeremy Clarkson.

"You've got to live with it. I have lived with it for 14 years, I've done a lot of miles in it, I've done 37,000 miles – which for a McLaren is a lot," said Atkinson.

Spooky.

Anyone been watching American Top Gear on BBC3?

Its actually quite refreshing to watch since the UK one seems to be out of ideas. Seems a bit more 'factual' too.

Posted

I watched one episode, and gave up!! The exact same format but with poor US presenters just didn't seem to work.

Of note Topgear appears to be returning... looks to involve classic topgear antics but it also seems to involve a blower bentley and something else equally old which should make one of their few decent features of the series.

The question you need to be asking yourself is whether they'll be moving on to Itals when the Marina supply dries up.

The Australian TG cubed a nice looking Allegro, TR7 and Ital. Wasn't even done in an 'entertaining' way. Just HUURRR THEY R SHIT LOL. Pissed me off a bit.
