Anyone see it last night?I don't know what to think about this show anymore.I was watching last night, thinking how many of the hilarious incidents are staged, yet still finding the show amusing and entertaining. And maybe thats the whole point?

shame they 'sideswiped' a mk 2 Fiesta in the safety test for their 'eco car' though. :(

I'd imagine it was the first available cheap car, not specifically a mk2 Fiesta.Hopefully it was a tinworm infested shed.

I drifted off to sleep about halfway through which says it all. To be honest it's reached its sell by date now - I've always been a big fan of TG but these first two haven't been very good. The electric car thing was more embarrasing than funny. The pisstake on Culshaw-Stevenson was much better however.

I started to watch this week's one and it did seem rather awkward, like when you go to visit somebody and it's obvious they've a massive domestic just before you arrived.

Crap show TBH , not impressed at all , boring , went off to make a cuppa , did i miss anything remotely interesting :?:

Missed nothing, it was really weak. Must say I do not care about the Audi R8 V10 or the Corvette ZR11Z06GrandSportTouring whatever. Electric car sketch seemed too scripted and boring, no hijinks, really I had no interest other than spotting places familiar to me in Oxford.I think the ep with the Lancia is next week. Looking forward to that, hopefully some shite cars. Best scene of this series so far is James May's exuberance at the Dacia Sandero. Pity they're too cool to do a comparo of that and a boggo Panda or something.

Meh. I'm currently watching The Gadget Show. Started with a Rinspeed car boat thing that did 50mph in the water, then a sat-nav test using a 2CV in Paris, then Mini v Beetle on the Wall of Fame! And later, a jet powered hoverboard...After the power-tool-racer challenge, this series has proved just how good Gadge can be.

If i ever got bought that, id kill the person who bought it.Have any of you seen those models theyre doing now as well, just normal off the shelf minichamps models with a £5 levy on top? No thanks. The books they do arent THAT great as well, the daft cars one is entirely concept cars. That isnt how daft cars work.Giles Chapman already wrote the best daft car book.I miss the days when all the merchandise youd get is some videotape with Tiff and JC bickering. That said, i do like Top gear still but its just........... i dont know, not as good as it used to be.

And the shameless merchandising award goes to...

Nothing wrong with that in my opinion. Plenty of other TV shows do merchandise so why not Top Gear?

Certainly have  You do get a model of the Stig though. Actually, some of the cars in the Top Gear series haven't been released as standard models yet - Ford GT - and the TG stuff is in different colours, but yeh I know what you mean. However, they selll well enough so I suspect the TG 'brand' is rather a strong one.

I just saw a 2003 episode on Dave*. Anybody remember May's used car buying tips, before he was too busy bing slow and getting lost ?*I have a job but get a day(s) off during the week for working weekend.

I would rank the Top Gear "Celebration Cake" you can get in Asda pretty high up the list of toss. It's just The Stig in front of some chequered flags, looks feeble. If you buy it, you're a chump.I'm surprised the Bradford Exchange (see sig) doesn't do a load of Top Gear goods, like a Jeremy Clarkson collectable plate, or a James May fleece.

after a week of Emmerdale, corrie, eastenders, strictly, x factor, i need something that makes me laugh.. top gear does just that otherwise it would be another time slot for the misses to occupy

What shall we do in this episode?I know, lets drop a piano on a Morris Marina, pretty sure we haven't done that before. Can they really not even choose another bit of BL tat to wreck, just for a change? Getting a little boring.

Posted

Getting VERY boring. I actually made the mistake of thinking that it was actually going to be an interesting and informative piece about Lancia but idiots ruined it. Fucking twats. As well as the Marina thing, the 'ropey Lancia' thing was exceedingly tiring too. And now Chris Evans is on it being smug and 'oh year, I bought the most expensive car at auction in the world.'Very irritating. Want to turn off but it is still a show with cars in it. Gah!

I didn't watch it this week and it sounds like I didn't miss much worth seeing already. Seems they've forgotton that alongside slick camera work and witty dialogue there also need to be some actual content. It's become all polish and no substance. Still I'm sure the average prole will continue to lap it up even if they continue re-hashing the same old crap forever.

I got pretty excited when they started the Lancia piece but that soon turned to disappointment when they got going. Tired, cliched comments with no real insight into anything but their own over-examined navels.

Did that marina have ital rear lights?Boring episode.Tired routine, tired presenting, tired style and no car reviews.

Posted

I thought that about the Marina lights. It was either a mega late crossover model or an Ital with a Marina front end. Doorhandles looked Ital ish too.

Posted

Agreed on the 'boring' comments. Airship thing was fairly funny-ish but way too long. And I wanted to see more of the Flaminia. Teasers!

afew half decent moments but overall zzzZZZZZzZZZzzzzZZzz

Well, I enjoyed it. The best I've seen for ages.Probably cos the only car review was the Lambo whatever and the unusual balloon. Also as they asked for votes on the manufacturer that had made the greatest cars last week, they'd essentially made a whole programme on Lancia knowing that the majority would vote Ford. Thats a Fuck You to the 'Proles' which I liked 8) Granted, they used the usual 'tounge in cheek' breaking down & rust routine, that the car enthusiast, in particular the old car and shite enthusiast knows is bollocks, but the 'prole' couldn't care less about that...I was sad about about the Marina, but much sadder about the HPE as there are far fewer of them left than the Marina, but they were hardly common when they were new anyway (unlike the Marina)Liked the Hawk HF stuff, because fantastic that it is (and I have been in a mate's Hawk) it is a car built in a shed  Well that's my wine fuelled thoughts....Agree that Evans is a twat though. :DEDIT: Thinking about it, the reason this episode of TG was good was because it alienated it's 'core' audience - those who aren't interested in cars.....

Wasn't there one like that on eBay recently?

Nice to see some old Lancias (god the Fulvia is a pretty car), but generally found it all a bit tired. Too much staged stuff, such as the HPE catching fire & the bits falling off the Beta Coupe. I also found the bit where James May's caravan/airship went into Norwich airport airspace annoying. Why, if he was travelling from the Kent area to Suffolk, would he end up at Norwich?
