I didn't realise how unstable those Robin's are.

Well, he did play for a roll! Plus, adding the bulk of Clarkson puts the Reliant at quite a disadvantage!

 Only because Jeremy swung a hella load of steering and right foot on.

Also enjoyed tonights Top Gear, my mum looked at me when she heard "Reliant" and said .. "No you are not getting one :)"

I did enjoy the Reliant feature too. A lot of LOLs from me too.

Granddad Vin always ran Reliants so I have many memories of his various Regals, Robins and Rialtos.

As said Trig, they aren't that unstable it was just played for laughs...

Mind you I didn't enjoy Granddad Vin doing 70+ on the Lincoln bypass in a T reg Robin. That engine was just screaming for mercy......

Made me want another Robin, i had 1 when i was 18, had twin alloy wheels, cherry bomb exhaust, was two tone, burgundy over grey, and my best memory way doing 70+ on tha A631 back into Gainsborough from West Burton Power Station. Good times. :D

I did drive a 1976 Robin once, only around the block mind but it was great fun although i was scared to corner inc ase it tipped over!

Of course it was obvious what would happen - a lot - in the Reliant piece, but it was so well done it was damn funny.

I LOL'd my arse off.

+ 2! Loved it - especially as it was all filmed local to us. Wish I'd known at the time. I have to say, the thought of doing 80 + in one is terrifying!

try a ton! I got a rialto van on two wheels at about 98mph! The front lifts up, especially if there is some weight in the back.

I thought the reliant piece was brilliant, I was suprised at the battering it took as well! I thought that moments like th cricket scene were brillint and just what I watched top gear for.

I was nearly begging the tv not to show me mazda based destruction earlier and was glad to have my hopes rewarded, does anyone know the owner of that?

Did anyone notice how the plate on the lacetti changed between the camera car for the hammond shots and the car the chimney landed on and finally the plate was removed entirely for the last shot!

My only gripe was I wanted more more more of everything and would have settled for no bentley scene (especially since the verdict was that it was c@@p) and more of the rest. The Bill Bailey cake stand scene propely cracked me up though "Bill, the race track is no place for cakes and biscuit assortments, but I'll have a custard dream if you're offering!".

Couldn't understand why there was boxing/flames etc in the Bentley film (or why the Bentley was there at all), but TG was predictable and entertaining as always. Will watch again next sunday...

I thought it was a decent start to the series and not as bad as I'd expected. The Bentley bit at the start was dull and I didn’t really get into it at all, but after that, generally good stuff.

Clarkson’s description of the Cee’d a few times as the "See comma dee" (or words to that effect) made me chuckle. Unless I'm colour blind, it's maroon, not brown...! It's odd to see a hatchback around the track rather than a light blue saloon that we’ve always had...

The Reliant bit was of course predictable, but I don't think I stopped laughing throughout the piece. It was fantastic! I liked it when he said "Ohhh, not again...!" during the process of putting it on it’s side for about the third time. He sounded pi**ed off! The best bit was at the end after he rolled it twice and straight, roof first, into the river! Obviously staged but I almost gave myself a stitch with that! One of the funniest pieces of television I’ve seen this year, so far. Indeed, considering the battering the poor Robin got, it stood up very well considering. The older red one parked up with the white stripe looked in decent condition and I was quite shocked to see another go on it’s side right into it but other than that, very funny indeed.

I must admit that surprisingly I missed that. It usually happens most weeks on the track. However, I know there are two Lacetti’s (like there were two Suzuki's) and I believe one was very recently on show somewhere. One ended 'HPJ' and one ended 'HPK'. I think it was the former that got crushed, but I'm willing to stand corrected. Yes, I noticed they removed it entirely at the end. I haven't got a clue why considering it was still screwed on perfectly fine after much of the car was crushed.

As for Bill Bailey - brilliant! I really enjoyed his original appearance on the show describing his visit to Australia with the rented Suzuki Vitara! He didn't disappoint last night either.

The random celebrities still works as well, with peter stringfellow and co righting clarkson after his escapades. That starsky reliant did look mint but I doubt it did much damage and the most interesting point was that is seemed to be wearing slotmag-esque wheels!

However I forgot to ask before, a the beginning with clarkson describing the car you could see a fiat 500 and something else that was browny greeny and two tone, any idea what it was?

I thought it was a Farina, possibly a Morris Oxford. Odd to bring 'em in just for background.

I'm pretty sure it was a Wolseley 16/60 or other Farina. I was wondering if they just happened to be there :?

'someone left the cake out in the rain' ROFLPMSL x twelvety.

Reliant bit was very funny.

In regards to the 'amateur' video taken on the dual carriageway, I reckon thats just a viral advert myself. (apologies if someone has said this already)

Did anyone actually see that ad on the telly? I would like hope someone in the BBC marketing team actually came up with the idea to use it.

it was on TV yesterday at some point, maybe before/after the F1.

I agree. If it had been real we would know who the fuckwits were by now.

Yup! I'll admit I LOLd my balls off too. Reliant thing was great!

Thought James May's volcano thing was a bit lame though - the de-tarping charade of that mad 4x4 was unconvincing. And the death of the reasonably priced car wasn't funny - even more wasteful tan all the old crap they wreck. It had an '06 plate ffs!

As for the destroying of a CX...... it appears to be true! Clarkson's CX 'villa' ends up rolling off a Dorset cliff in a typical 'forgot the handbrake' ting..

I can see it now: Clarkson and May will be quietly chatting about how 'well' the challenge is going while the CX slowly begins to roll away behind them..

When I worked in Leeds a few years back I regularly used to see a Robin which I believe had a Rover 3.5 V8 - now that would be scary.

I was thinking, "well at least he hasn't called it a Robin Reliant" and then, doh! He just did.

And I just loved the fiat 500 in the background! That scene was just surreal!

The Beardmore Brothers. They did a bloody quick Kitten.

I like pretty much everything they do. Tends to be just mental enough to be brilliant, but invisible enough to the general public to surprise the hell out of them.

Posted

They would not have been able to sell the 'Reasonably Priced Car' due to liability issues, so its not really a waste that got destroyed.

Posted

could have sold it as spares or repair - instead of crushing it

one front light looked OK still

I thought the multiple stars-in reasonably priced new car was quite fun, the Iceland stuff was good because I can look at that scenery for hours (and remember how much fun I had there) Reliant piece was very predictable but it was nice to catch a glimpse of the very early pre-facelift Regal 3/25 at the owners club thingy.

Mainly I'm concerned that the old 323 is goingt o be scrapped, it looked mint! I do hope someone steps up and takes it on now

So go on then, Who had a laugh at tonight motorhome episode?.

It was quite predictable with the camp fire and the CX going of the cliff but i still thought it was highly entertaining!, The CX did look bloody scary though in the cross wind on the motorway!

Predictable as always.......and funny as always.
