... of my driveway.

Crossed another car off the list rather by accident. Emailed this seller to get an idea of the reserve and actually he ended up accepting my silly offer and I'm off to Manchester this evening to collect it.

I really love everything about the Laguna II, I've had a few and always said that when I find a decent V6 again, I'll keep it.

So... the Rover has to go. It's just far too slow and I'm not gelling with it. If it were an 827, the story would be different.

It's a 91 J plate Rover with one owner from new, 144k miles, wore the private plate 44 JT for most of it's life judging by the service history which just about fits in a box file and documents two cambelts and two headgaskets. It's almost immaculate inside and out, has a slight oil leak but drives great. MOT until November, no tax, four almost new Pirelli tyres. I've had it on C&C for a while at £795 with no interest AT ALL. Now given that I want to shift this thing now, would a reduction to £595 see any movement do you reckon?

Have also toyed with the idea of an ebay auction, but being in N Ireland, it has limited potential.

A couple of these have sold recently on Donedeal for around the €1000 mark. Might be worth advertising it to the south or putting it on ebay.ie if all else fails?

VRT would be €720 BTW...

That Rover's gorgeous. Apart from location and the desire to have actual money, I'd be very interested.

Sorry to add a useless reply to your topic but that XX is absolutely GORGEOUS and I'd genuinely snap it up in a heartbeat had I the funds and were it closer to me.

Seriously, wow.

Personally I'd rather have the Rover, but the Laguna looks bang tidy :D

You might want to suggest the seller ends the eBay auction before the reserve's met and he has some explaining to do

Not a bad idea at all Ross!

Cheers, it's clearly been a well loved car and I love looking at it, the drive just doesn't do it for me though.

Just back from Laguna-ing. What a car! Literally NONE of the common Laguna issues, it practically feels like a new car. V6 purred beautifully down the M6 and returned 38 MPG. Town driving and celebration of that noise tomorrow will see that drop massively :)

Those 24v V6's are nice engines ... and make nice upgrades for the pig iron in the back of an Alpine :D

They're a good looking car those Lagunas, You're a braver man than me!

True bravery would be a dCi Laguna Volksy!

Got it photographed today... what a car. The V6 is absolutely effortless and the "some service history" turned out to be a fully stamped book.

This is the only issue with the bodywork:

Tiptronic works nicely. Renault cleverly made the shifter look like a manual one

A full set of working tyre pressure sensors. On a ten year old Renault. Said all I needed to know about the car!

Might replace this badge with a 1.9 dCi one

Two fully working key cards put the icing on the cake. Advisory on last MOT was two front tyres close to legal limit - they've since been replaced with two very new looking Continentals.

Not bad for £500. :D

It does, doesn't it! Many happy miles Luke.

That's rather nifty, actually, but I'd have been even more impressed if it had been a MK1... 8)

have they got a ZF gearbox like the PugCits ? ZF 4HP20 on my 607.

Posted

I drive 1980s tin - if I have a choice ;) . A 1992 Mk 3 Astra is a fairly new car to me, and in my view stuff like this Laguna is brand spanking post-modern stuff...

"£500?" he muttered through pursed, dry lips... :)

I suspect I am living irrevocably in the past now ;) ; all this modern stuff on cars is the "dark arts" to me :? . Regardless, I can only say "well done!" :) .

It's the perfect excuse to try out some "brand spanking post-modern stuff"! Worst case scenario, I know it will break for more - or provide a spare engine and box for the Avantime.

It's definitely not a ZF gearbox. I'm nearly sure it's an Aisin item as I know that's what is in the Vel Satis and Avantime V6 - and Renault used the term "Pro-active" to describe them all.

That's a bit of a bargain I'd say, well done.

Despite their woeful reliability record I'd roll one of these Lagunas so long as it had a proper engine and not a tractor one.

One of the lads that worked for me a few years back bought a boggo 1.6 as his first car and it was a far nicer ride than I was expecting, and kudos to a 21 year old for going down the 'sod-it, I like my comfort' route rather than the buying usual boy racer Corsa shite that all his mates had.

His tyre sensors never worked though.

The sensors are usually a nightmare. It seems the front wheels have been swapped on this car - got a low pressure warning for the wrong front tyre. Either that or the system is being its usual shit self.

Comfort over the stereotypical teenage shite is always a good thing :) I used to get such abuse taking the Vel Satis or Volvo 940 to school!

All this hardcore Laguna talk is making me look for another..... :(

You know you want to. In fact, if you're feeling really dare devilish - get a 2.0 IDE. They're possible even worse than the dCi and will GUARANTEE eventful motoring. Type "Renault IDE problem" into google to get an idea :)

I'd love to but I only have a 3gb monthly download limit.

Where have all the R25s gone? I remember a bloke for whom I worked in the 80s buying a Monaco and my 18-year-old self being terribly impressed with the luxurious interior and, in particular, the incredible stereo. I'd love to find one.

i have this......

its gathering dust, it hasnt been on the road since 2007, but i did mot it a couple of years ago, 45k, low owner car. Im maybe too far away in Aberdeenshire though?

Posted

How much do you want for that!? They've disappeared into nothing. I tried to resurrect an 89 V6 injection last summer after it had been sitting up for ten years after head gasket failure. The old girl was having none of it... :(

Posted

Then it looks like I have no choice... It will have to be done

I can just see it sitting with the V6 Laguna

Posted

Could you technically book that into an MOT station in N Ireland and drive it home or would that be taking the piss?

Posted

Technically I don't see why not. I'd properly book one as close to Stranraer and possible, i'm 5 mins from the Belfast Port.
