Considering a major change of direction - any thoughts?

OK, Operation Sell My Shite is under way - I thought I'd better do it now before I change my mind. I've put the two Citroëns and the BMW on Carandclassic - I've done those first as they're going to be the hardest for me to get rid of (in fact I hesitated for quite a while before pressing the "submit" button for the BMW as I really do like that car). Alfa 75 will be going on there (and possibly on RR too, although I expect the inevitable "if only it was a manual" comments would end up getting on my tits) in the next couple of days, followed by the SVX as soon as I can find what I've done with the logbook  .

Audi is already on Gumtree, Merc and 156 will be going on this weekend and the 607 as soon as I get the logbook back. Which leaves the Metrocab - someone on RR has expressed an interest in buying it as it is, so will see what happens with that - if he doesn't want it I might end up MoTing it and selling it with a year's test, as I don't think it'll take a lot.

It's going to be weird. The neighbours are going to be over the moon.

On a personal note, I don't think it'll last.

Cull as you like, but I bet, at least a Little Chef Main Course, that you'll pick some stuff up within about... 4 weeks.

You've expressed your 'bucket list' on here before, most met I think, but I'm sure you'll not be able to resist others as they arise.

Challenge on.

You'll probably win that bet - I currently have nothing suitable to take to the Marham track day at the end of April, so I'll be on the lookout for something dirt cheap and reasonably quick that I can thrash mercilessly for a day without worrying about whether it goes bang. I haven't even looked at eBay Motors in the last week though, purely because I know that if I do I'll end up bidding on something.

I think the SVX has a buyer already in the form of Bickle? (see page 2)

Anyway, good luck!

I think 3 cars is the ideal - one really, really nice one and two bits of chod to run as dailies. Other chod can be acquired on a strict one in, one out basis. At least then you could stop boredom setting in, without going OTT.

Bang on, nearly. I have one practical 35mpg daily and two nice ones in the garage to be used as and when I feel like it. However, I do feel like a bit 'o luxureh so will go looking for some ballistic mileage German autobarge. In fact, I've found one and am waiting for the owner to finish with it. 1997 528i Auto with velours and 190'000 miles for a cat's arsehole over scrap money.

Blimey Wuv, this is a disaster! I turn my back for a couple of days and find the world's shifted on its axis. I know that your plan and what everybody's said about it is completely right and sensible (at least in our world, where a plan that involves buying a Tatra can count as sensible), but am I the only one who is stunned and bereft at the loss of such a large and wonderfully random collection of Autoshite gold?

Knowing that the random shit parked outside the house was a mere fraction of your collection has been the only thing that let me sleep at night.

I'm a broken man.

I'm a toddler with a freshly dropped ice cream cone at my feet. I'm that guy at the back of the room shouting 'Judas' when Bob Dylan came on with an amp.

I need therapy. Or at least a lie down. Does anyone have a valium?

No Valium, but I've another point...

Recently there was a thread about storage costs & someone listed a whole load of garages & lockups that he rented.

He then said that we shouldn't work out what it was costing - but I did.

And it was a smidgeon under £4,000pa

To put stuff into perspective, that's a whole lot of half-decent Aston you could pay for monthly for.

This piles of manky motors stuff is OK, but without I suddenly inherit considerable wealth & a stately pile,

I can't justify more than my current "fleet".

I'm with you on this Wuvvum. I'm flogging all my stuff too.

Do what feels right, if you want a Tatra don't expect them to be cheap. The chap who's doing my Escort is restoring a T603 next - one that cost €8000 and needs a lot of work.

I was going to mention Marham if you hadn't, couldn't see any of your keepers that would have been particularly well-suited to it...

To be fair I think the Rover would give a reasonable account of itself if it had to - Marinanut seemed to do OK in his 216 a couple of years back and mine would be a fair bit quicker in a straight line, if possibly more nose-heavy through the corners. The only problem would be that I'd be worried about thrashing it too hard as I don't want to break it...

Are you going on the Sunday?

going to put the links on here Wuvvum?

Just had a look and all three adverts are showing as "deleted". Most odd. Maybe it didn't like me posting three adverts in the same day?

No idea to be honest I've never listed anything on carandclassic :)

Oh my days, two epic barges in one day, with this and Pete-M's 604, thats pretty much my dream garage in a nutshell. Why do I not have any money!!!!!!! :x

Posted

That BMW is EPIC! Tax free, too!

Posted

Is there something wrong with me, whenever I search on carandclassic all i get is eBay ads!

Posted

I think that's part of the way C&C make their money - they provide links to eBay listings related to the search you've done, and eBay pays them for the advertising.

Posted

We've got 37 of the damned things, but as you get offered bugger all,it doesn't give much inspiration to sell !

Posted
That happens to me too.

I've fathomed it now, it was down to the 'adblock plus' add-on thingy i have got on Firefox. Just disable it for th carandclassic site.

Have you got any details of it or a link to an advert I could be after a deezil?

Posted

Not advertised it yet as I'm still waiting for the logbook to come through (seller forgot to send it off  ).

It's a 2.0 HDI on an 02 plate, done starship miles (214K), computer is flashing up various warnings (some of them spurious) and traction control light is on, but I believe dieselnutjob of this parish has the necessary equipment and software to get the thing to behave itself. Driver's door window doesn't work, but most other stuff seems to - remote locking, auto lights & wipers, trip computer, climate control (aircon is cold), cruise control, radio etc.

It drives well enough and I've been averaging about 43mpg. Bodywork isn't too bad - a few scratches and a couple of minor dents but nothing too drastic. It's MoT'd until October and taxed till the end of June.

Cheers wuvvum. I might/might not need a diesel car to fill in between lease cars and always fancied one of these. I'll find out early next week if I need to sort something so if it's still around I'll be in touch.

You need to buy my Previa.

Old enough to be considered retro, big enough to have a game of football in, and you wouldn't have to lay a spanner on it.
