What do you pay for car storage?

It's got to that stage. The point of no return, the path to serial hoarder.

The driveway just can't cope with my shite anymore. The Avantime will be home soon, the Mégane is due back as salvage after the insurers classed it as a Cat C, and I'm keeping both Clio Autos for the indefinite.

I've always wanted somewhere I can park up stuff, know that I own whatever kind of shite it may be, but not have to look at it everyday. Lord knows what I'd still have around that I regret selling.

I've been offered a patch of land, overlooked by a house, fairly secure, 10 miles outside Belfast for £20/week. It's got the capacity for about 12 cars, I can come and go as I please, and I know the landlord very well.

Good deal?

Seems pretty good if you make use of it - Can it be an eyesore? can you work on vehicles there?

I've just got a council garage, its about a fiver a week, for one car. Yes, it's indoor storage, but they don't like you doing anything other than "minor repairs" and it's not really very secure so I wouldn't leave anything in there I really cared about. If I'd have had it last year, I'd have kept my old Golf Gti in there and happily forgot about it for a few years, then pulled it out and sold it for $£$£$PROFIT£$£$3 rather than just being forced to break it quick cos it wasn't taxed or insured

Sounds like a good deal to me my council lock ups cost me £11 a week and I have the issues over working on cars and the like.

I rent a unit in an old mill, big enough for about four cars, alarmed and whatnot for £100 / month. Chap who owns it is just building some more which are a bit bigger (5-6 cars maybe) for about £150 / month.

Far to much it costs me £30 per week for a shed to take two and a half motors i could work in the shed but its full at the moment, another £18.50 for a shed for one motor and some bikes, £15 for a garvel yard corner for two motors, and £10 for a single car garage, best not add that up or i may pass out :D

Are you anywhere near me mr. Lobster (Rutland)

Lancashire. So not really, no!

I pay £90/month for my bit of the unit, basically one car indoor space with plenty of room for working on it, another outdoor space and a 'not too strict but dont take the piss' policy when it comes to temporary storage of other motors that need fixing.

My lockup is a bit on the salty side. £120 a month and I can only just get one car in it. I'd maybe get 2 Fiestas in it at a push.

It's all I could find though and is right in the centre of town close to an excellent pie emporium. Theres no outside storage though and to be fair if I had room for more cars I'd just fill it with old shite I'd never fix.

I pay £40 a month for each of the Nationals; at the moment my boss is having a grump about two Cavaliers and a Mondeo in the yard, but I can store those for £20 each a month at the same place the buses are kept.

Local council apparantly charges £20 a YEAR for lockups, so I'm heading down later in the week to see what I can get.

I pay £65* a month for my lock up, it's a fairly good size so I can work on the Sceptre quite comfortably, but the roof leaks... It's in a block behind some flats, there's a church behind it and there was a pub at the side but that's been demolished and and they're building an old peoples' home. I don't take the piss as far as making a noise goes, for instance I wouldn't run the genny and be grinding ect on a Sunday. There's a security gate and another (unlocked) gate to get to it, one bloke did have 2 Rover V8 engines nicked last year though.

*It's actualy £65.19 as it's garage 19 and that's how the landlord keeps track of who's paid.

I enjoyed this.

I recently lost my excellent lock-up, with enough space in front to park 2 cars & no problems working on them at any time on the huge hard standing in front, all for £120 a quarter! But the land was sold for development... I'm now reduced to a smaller lock up, with no parking in front, for £78 per month!

Anyone in north London/Hertfordshire area who knows of cheap lock ups, please PM me!

Likewise Barrow-in-Furness, although it's not urgent. Yet.

I rent a small lockup garage for £60 a month, which is probably slightly lower than the going rate. Its so narrow you'd struggle to fit a wider car than a Rebel in there!

I live on the south coast and the prices are steep for land around here. I'd ideally like somewhere a bit bigger with room to work but cant really afford to spend more than i currently do...

mhhm

I hope WarrenT does not see this thread !

We pay a "wee" fee which results in the occasionaly dry space for two cars, this comes with compressed air feed (all 8Bar !) along with electric and water.

Outside is sufficient space to park a number of plaxton paramounts, and everyone on-site is more than friendly enough to lend you tools and a hand.

Did i mention 24hr security ?

£9 per week here in Greenwich for leaky council spec garage with broken door. Came ready filled with tat too, mostly rubbish though some useful.

Usual regs apply though I'm the only person in the block with a garage and find that if I help the neighbours with a little service work here and there they don't mind me turning the garage area into a tat yard as long as I clean up after myself.

I pay £11and a few pence per week for a council lock up 5 mins from where I live. There is no lighting or power so I use a genny but don't run it at silly o'clock. It is in a block of garages that nestle between some council flats. I know most of the folk there and have made a couple of good friends through similar interests. They keep an eye on the lock up for me. Plus people park in front of it so that is an extra security feature lol++.

I have also just gone 'halves' with a mate on a part share of a barn on a farm. This offers space for about 5 cars and I pay £25 per month.

Andrew!!! Do you want me to speak to the guy that deals with the garages in my block? There are several empty one's.

£20 a week is a bargain.

I pay about £8.00 a week (each) for two single car lock-ups. Worth every penny imho and they're a stone's throw from my house which is a right bonus.

I think some here know about my 'deal'. Some gobshite fella I was introduced to sometime back lives in a pretty posh part of Birmingham, as he knows/can charm some of the ladies at the local council garage department he can pretty much get himself a garage. As this is the case and me being in need of some covered parking he has sub-let 2 single car garages at £25 per month for each garage, so I pay £50 a month for both garages which are situated next to each other. The garages are actually about £22 per month if let directly from the council. But because certain areas within Birmingham have some arsey policy requiring you to live within the area where you want to rent a garage that put me out of the game of asking the council directly. There are some right jobsworths.

I have already submitted several applications to Birmingham City Clowncil to try an dghet somewhere of my own, but they are ignored, each time I phone up I get given one of several excuses i.e. land is being sold off/other garages are (very slowly) being repaired/there is a long waiting list etc.....

To be honest though, seeing what some people pay for a single garage me deal isnt too bad, the area where my garages are, are situated within a posh estate, some of the houses directly opposite which over look the garages are occupied by serving police officers, I already spoke to acouple of the residents who told me this. The size of the garages are pretty good, whilst I cant exactly work on the cars undercover, they can at least fit in the garage without having to take the bumpers off, I previously rented a garage off Telford Council which was seriously small, I had to the rear bumper off the Sterling.

Preferably I'd like to rent someting bigger as I have a load of parts that also need to be stored somewhere.
