I was lucky enough to find one at a boot sale a few years back. 

Spring was easy enough to get in place and use,but it is incredibly noisy.

Damp, dark morning with low cloud hiding the hills, and the streetlights still on at 7.30. Nothing much of interest at the market this morning, and no Nemesis either.

There was only a small box of mostly rubbish Lesney, Corgi and Dinky stuff - incomplete and broken for the most part, with a high proportion of aircraft, trailers and other stuff that's a bit useless on its own.

Matchbox Superkings Ferrari Testarossa was a bit too shabby to appeal.

Speed Kings Nissan and Mercedes C111 were also tired, but all there.

Weird off-brand Transformers that looks a bit like a Mk8 Civic mixed with a Citroen C2.

Some big tinplate trucks were interesting, mind:

Not sure how much; probably not cheap.

I tried to engage Market Blokey in some light conversation, hoping to enquire about the Adidas Avenger's general well-being, but he looked slightly pop-eyed and confused at my attempt pleasantries, and so I didn't pursue it further.

I guess people aren't much used to small talk from me.

The Charity Stall had only that Fisher-Price rescue vehicle on it, still unsold.

Alan's Emporium did have some diecast - but I'm not sure that £2 for a chipped generic MotorMax represented great value for money...

...though £4 for the boxed Automax Porxster seemed pricey, though not outrageous. But there were only those two.

I was happy enough to slip back out into the autumnal drizzle with a bag of home-made cherry scones and a decent mug of coffee; mildly unfulfilled from a diecast perspective, but at least I wasn't subject to temptation...

Still, I got some decent Lesney off him for 25p before, and a nice Corgi 'Man from U.N.C.L.E' Oldsmobile for a mere £2, so sometimes his cluelessness pays off...

Heh, it does feel like there's been a steep descent in quality of late - really don't know why, but swings and roundabouts, I guess...

Still, for some reason I'm kinda ok with that - for one, it prevents me from arriving home clutching overflowing bags of bashed-up Corgi Juniors, and for another I'm not taking it personally anymore - seems a weird thing to say, but for a long while I felt somehow responsible if there wasn't much of interest on the stalls on a particular week.

Post Lady delivered these today

Corgi Mercedes 350SL ; 1st series Corgi Chevrolet Impala ; 1st series Corgi Mercedes 220 SE Coupe ; Maisto 1:33 Lotus 340R

Never had any of them before.  The purchase of the 350 SL is the fault of this forum.  The 220 SE picked up for offer of Fiver, liked it because: it's the early steering one ; it has some number plate decals I've never seen before ; also because of this statement:

I think we all appreciate your efforts finding old toys, packing and posting them all over at no profit to yourself, when you could have slung half of them on eBay. Hopefully some of the bits I've sent back have helped a bit - especially the haggis.

I would have been checking that Corgi Minibus for uncracked glass though...

I think we need to cheer ourselves up and indulge in some reminisce about the Tat we had as a kid. Those times when we had nothing to worry about other than if we had Bernard Matthews Turkey Drummers for tea.

Well, I wasn't able to stop myself checking - but tragically it's the same one that's been kicking round the stall for a few years now, with the windscreen put through and the roof windows broken/ cracked on both sides...

Ditto, that Corgi Manta's the one with the roof stoved in - so a brave resto on both counts.

The triangle atop the rear plate suggests that these will be early 60s Trade Plates, which we are now so used to seeing in red-on-white.  Way Back When, you could buy packs of number plates, tax discs, etc, Corgi-branded, and although I don't remember specifically, it's not a stretch to imagine that they included Trade Plates.  The market was much less "global" in those days and the packs were UK-specific.

I happened to be barrowing a big pile of coal yesterday and I thought of when people used to say they got a lump of coal at Xmas. I think this year a lot of people would be over the moon with a bag of coal for Xmas with the price of gas etc. Assuming they have a coal fire.
