Shite in Miniature II

Boot sale was busy but didn't find huge amounts of stuff - partly as I seem to have acquired my own nemesis, twice he was looking in the boxes I wanted to check out, and had a bag full of goodies already.

Still, got one past him when he looked up to ask how much the cars were, and I swiped something out of "his" box while he wasn't looking.

There were bargains to be had of course

20210606_081206.thumb.jpg.8d1687f9b0067dd3c1d753229f7b6de8.jpg

20210606_092314.thumb.jpg.b62f7c54963b4dced1bd04f7e7797e80.jpg

The seller with the 2CV door was where I first encountered my foe rooting through a box of cars. When he'd finished I had a look and most were pretty beaten up and broken. I pulled out a dozen or so in acceptable condition or worth restoring, and asked how much. "Paand each or six for a fiivaa". Yeah no. Put all but two back. He had the better stuff on the table, asked about a pretty decent Starsky and Hutch Torino - £10. No ta.

Full report of what I did find shortly

The last few weeks seem to have been quite commercial-heavy, grabbed three different era Matchbox trailers

20210606_10183720210606_10190020210606_101924

A couple of DAFs

20210606_10200020210606_102030

And a pair of Scammels

20210606_10210720210606_102154

Another Scammel but a dumper

20210606_102234

And another dumper - these fantasy casting didn't used to appeal but they're growing on me. I really like the ratchet mechanism operated by pushing the fuel tank in, that raises the bed in stages on a cam

20210606_10233320210606_102357

Another fantasy casting but from Corgi, High Speed Van was too tidy to leave behind

20210606_102430

I'm pleased with this - there's a seller I've mentioned before with some nice stuff but overpriced, he had this trailer that goes behind the Mod Tractor for £4 last week. Different seller sold me this...

20210606_111731

...and a pretty decent Gus's Gulper for £4

20210606_111931

Cossie is a big battered but hopefully will make a good donor, or could be repaired with a tatty XR3i for the glass and dash

20210606_112053

This was something I've not seen before - Sunnyside. Looking on Google there should be a grille over the pull-back motor

20210606_11221320210606_11222820210606_11225020210606_112255

A couple of Lintoy dragsters

Back shortly with the smaller stuff

Pleased with this very tidy Datsun 128X for £1

20210606_11284720210606_112858

One of the two I bought out of the expensive tat box, Hot Wheels Army funny car

20210606_113500

Cosmobile was only 20p

20210606_114024

As was the police Astra GTE

20210606_114050

This is what I snatched while my fellow tat-gatherer wasn't looking

20210606_114113

Bora is nowhere near as tidy as last week's one

20210606_114210

Finally, the other car I couldn't leave from the expensive tat box. I had to clean out some disgusting white ooze from the bed, but I didn't have a Baja Bouncer in my stash

These are my finds from this morning20210606_131535.thumb.jpg.4f970c8c43e2ece79412a961de71c201.jpg

I did think I'd found a couple more boxes of decent stuff to look through, but the stallholder had just bought them from someone else 🙁

Did go to a car boot, nothing to report, only spot was a Matchbox Rover 3500 but at £3 it was staying there.

I've got one of those somewhere, although smaller Corgi Juniors I think.  There was also a Guisval 1/64 effort too.   Been wanting to find one out of the Superior Racers series for a while, not only because 1/36-ish, but they did four concepts rarely modelled, if at all.  But not found any, so have been able to keep off the slippery slope.

And why?  Because the four concepts were real things.  Here is the Ferrari PF Modulo in its proper colour scheme, with our dearest Gabriella sporting an suitably matching outfit

ferrari-512-s-modulo-concept.jpg.ae30d1cd42bb3d0f4731faba19d01a54.jpg

The others to collect* are the 1978 Dōmu Zero ; Michelotti's 1971 Matra Laser ; Bertone's 1976 Alfa Romeo Navajo

I have the matching Fantasy Tank Tranporter cab here, along with BasicKings wheel version of the Scammell Contractor. And the Corgi J PV Modulo

That Modulo is pretty ace. I recall marvelling over that picture above which was in my 'Superbook of Cars' together with a Ford 'Coin' Car concept.

Ah, interesting.

That might explain the provenance behind this odd littleTat Stall refugee from all the way back in March 2019.

Long gone now, of course,  but I'll keep a look-out for any others that might pop up in future.

EDIT: Just noticed that the SS-908 'Trans-Am Pontiac' from the same range appeared to have been in the same tray too - just to the bottom left of the pic.

Here's the pair of them, a week or two earlier. Also looks to be a black Trans-Am in the mix too.

Fantasy Tank Tranporter

Ah that's what it belongs to - I was going to have a Google of the three trailers last night.

I'm not hugely into lorries and the like, just can't leave old stuff behind when I spot it for £cheap

Anyone know what the regular wheels and Superkings ones were part of?

*edit* Superkings K-92A Helicopter Transporter

Boom.

I love the little features and mechanisms on old toys like this. Lifting the fuel tanks releases the trailer

Wouldn’t those type trailers have had a detachable rear wheels that pulled away so you could access the low loader.

That's interesting - some really nice models planned, although there's maybe a few cop-outs with the same casting offered up twice, with different paint and decals (Stingray, Thunderbird, Olds 88, Beetle, possibly Land Rover).

Going back to the Facebook group, Blue14 Brand seemed to have put the Batmobile on some of their early promotional ads, only to later retract it because it appears that Corgi no longer holds the necessary licence to produce it. I wonder if they managed to get that sorted out?

Cheers for the info!

Personally I'm quite pleased to see both versions of the VW reproduced, although they're the same casting there are enough differences for it to be worth it. Quite a few parts in those with opening boot/bonnet and working steering. I bet they don't do left and RHD though!

I've seen on FB someone comparing an original Mini to the current release, new one is slightly longer so they're not a copy of the original castings

Long gone now, of course,  but I'll keep a look-out for any others that might pop up in future.

After some wasted life digging about, it seems they were re-released/rebranded by Polistil too.  Something along the lines of Rindei by Polistil.

This is the Alfa Navajo, stamped just SS-905

With panel gaps to die for, they have opening things

That's right; they're all apparently completely new castings which are very similar, though not identical, to the originals.

I'm sure the original Mini tooling was long since worked to death after punting out a million or so examples, in addition to being messed about with for conversion to Whizzwheels in the early 70s, while doubtless modern diecast production moulds allow better, faster, more reliable manufacture.

It seems the decision to fake-age the waterslide transfers on both the Monte Carlo Mini and The Saint's Volvo has been a bit controversial, though - the marketing firm behind it says that there was a lot of debate on whether the new Corgis should look like excellent examples of the original production run, or if they ought to look like brand-new items.

I'd sooner they resembled the toys as they would have appeared new from the toyshop in 1966, rather than how they'd look if they appeared with a reserve of £££ at auction today - but it seems that's not the majority view.

They really are lovely little replicas, though - and I'm quite excited at the thought of the East African Safari Beetle, especially if it's complete with charging rhino...

I was going to say the same! I'm not a cardboard collector so don't normally worry about boxes, but the original for the Beetle is rather nice. We'll see

Scalextric obtained the Warner licence for this 2021 release:

c4175_1_batmobile-1966_pp.jpg.c35ede3e597b274bdb0649bf00915b0c.jpg

But Corgi Collector's Club cannot get the licence to reproduce the Batmobile die-cast after all, they say.  That is interesting as both brands are part of Hornby:

Oh the excitement.  So Blue 14 DTC aren't anything to do with Corgi after all either.  So I have ordered two COUNTERFEIT REPRODUCTION Corgis! 😄
