Shite in Miniature II

I really like those little 1:87 Monograms, I think they were called Xacts or something. Plastic bodies but really well proportioned.

I am liking those a lot! The 155 Alfas are particularly cool. These sorts of cars are simply nowhere to be found outside of ebay now. I suppose their fragility has everything to do with it. The Oxford Diecast and Classix models are nice but as they are diecast the details are a little chunky. Plus they dont do many 70s European cars.

This is my haul from the Mansfield swap meet this morning.

Particularly fond of the Italian police punto.post-19587-0-95497700-1448810033_thumb.jpg

Old Matchbox Dodge challenger,

Decided not to paint but to polish the casting.

Just used some autosol and a rotary polisher.

I like that. Could almost be a preproduction! Bought the encyclopaedia of matchbox other day, hoping to catalogue what I've got.

I've seen Bulgarian eBay sellers who have Matchbox Cortinas like that, but I think they're actually plated.

^^Is this the Mk IV Cortina? I have a Mk2 that could have been rotary polished but its been like it for a few years....

I don't think I've seen a Mk 2 like that, the ones I've seen were Mk 4's.The Bulgarians do have the Mk 2 though,so who knows?

It certainly hasn't been apart and there is no trace of any paint inside doors, interior or under bonnet - maybe pre-pro? I actually like it - you can see the GT badges etc!

Edit - just dug it out for another look. Don't know why I thought the bonnet opened as of course it doesn't! However, no trace of paint and its definitely polished "bare" rather than plated.

A few chips in the paint, but otherwise as new.

Paid £25 for it which is quite a lot for me,but had to have it 8)

Have you seen what that's worth!!

Bit of a memory jerk actually as I received one of these for Christmas about 1969/70 but it was the two decker version (with 6 cars) Still have it but the cars have come and gone (two of the Minis are original, though....)

I actually had the tri-decker from new, and I think two double-decks of different ages.  I'm sure one had a Bedford TK cab.  Never ever had one of the sets, with assorted cars though.  I'm also pretty sure I've got none of those originals left. :(

The Bulgarian Cortinas were odd colours as they were licence built copies by a company called Mikro. The original plan was for Matchbox to use them to get a foothold in the eastern bloc, though they just ended up continuing to use the moulds after the licence ran out. As far as im aware they continued production until fairly recently.

Mine was the double decker with a red Bedford TK cab.

IIRC the even earlier ones came with an S type cab.

Yes, two Bedford cabs were used....I had the TK one as an even earlier Xmas present but was too young to look after it properly and it ended up in Khaki camouflage minus the top deck as a tank transporter (as if...poor old TK!).

To make up for it (and again Christmas comes to the fore) I bought the S cabbed version on Ebay one Boxing Day morning at about half past two for £28 in its original (but somewhat taped-up) box.

The cars didn't come with it - only the MGA is my original childhood toy. I broke the screen quite soon after I was given it and it languished unplayed-with until the advent of Steve Flowers and BTS Mouldings who did the necessary spares.

I've got a bit of a thing for car transporters,

no idea why.

Really enjoying your pics of them.

I have a few more tucked away. Will dig them out and take pics soon.

Please do - love to see them! My obsession stemmed from never seeing them outside of a book unless we went from home on the south coast up to Lincolshire to see relatives. We would pass through Oxford and start seeing the transporters somewhere north of Winchester en route to the docks. Also they are great for stacking models in the cabinet!
