Had a trip to Tesco,

IMG_20200808_161520.thumb.jpg.08927b5ebe069ebe24c0214be7fbd3c1.jpg

I knew I'd buckle and get one of these, Tesco reducing the 9 packs to £5.50 helped decide. I was gutted when I missed out on the S123 Merc, our local Tesco didn't have any of the single issues at the time, so I'm glad I finally have one, without having to pay comedy eBay prices. I also like the Mazda, the Subaru and the Jag exclusive, so worth the purchase I think. 201_ jnr has kind of claimed the others...

We had to nip into town yesterday, so had a quick trip to The Entertainer. Nothing really new Hot Wheels-wise, although the nice helpful lady in there said they have a couple of new cases to put out soon, so will have to return. The little 'uns got a few weird fantasy ones on the 3 for 2 offer, and I grabbed a few JDMs I've so far missed out on.

IMG_20200808_161647.thumb.jpg.e7a0782f7e9f6acdd3062f751c074b0e.jpg

Was glad to get this one, to go with the MOMO 510 saloon I've already got.

The li'l Honda looks cute in red, in what must be it's 7634th re-colour...

IMG_20200808_161720.thumb.jpg.b4628bd9f05801e56e833bf9734aa082.jpg

Bit of a makeweight for the 3 for 2, this one, but it's not a bad job, and my first S2000.

Something else came in the post as well. Hang on to your hats, kids...

My local Tesco had some Matchbox 5 packs for £3.50,but none of them had more than 2 cars I liked so I left them ?

Same here with all the toy aisle singles and packs around at the moment.  Not drawn to any of them; or already have them in one colour or another

Saying that, picked this up earlier in Chavda, last one left

But was only bought it to help pay the mortgage off

...and dropped the face mask getting back to the car, so it cost me one of them too

Bought this at an autojumble on Saturday,

I normally shy away from nice boxed stuff on cost grounds, but also the fact I don't like paying a premium for a piece of folded fragile cardboard.

So there you have it,a near mint Vega Major coach.

It was expensive (for me at least)

But look at it!!!

It's beautiful.

Anyone care to guess the cost?

I will start the bidding at 25 smackers. Sorry I don't have a pound sign on my keyboard.

Correct. Chassis is original but modified. Engine?

Mint and boxed would be pitched at around a ton on ebay. I paid 40ish for mine with immaculate box and instructions, but my paintwork is damaged on one side where it sat in floodwater.

Yours looks silly clean. 70 quid?

No, I paid €45.00 for it,so about £40.00.The box has wear and an old tape repair to one seam.

Quite pleased with that.

I have a playworn one too,but this one fab.

Havent a clue on the engine origin, possibly a Matchbox Kingsize dragster model (like K38 Gus Gulper Mustang model)

That model looks sweet, looks so 'right' although maybe a subtle roof chop would improve the aesthetics?

What colour scheme are you planning for it?

Engine is from this with the headers upside down

Wheels were from one of these no-name things

50120089982_d33fee82ce_4k.jpg20200716_174621 by RS, on Flickr

Paint will probably be matt black and possible fake rust as a rat rod, mainly as removing the spare wheel carrier thing at the back is quite hard to disguise/smooth, so ratty will help

Beat me to it, was about to post.  Valve cover style and gold colour gave the game away hooray

That means you have three spare now!   Driver ideal for fitting into something too, once he sees the light of day again

No rush, thought they were in front of you.  It was a in-forum joke about these Mercs regularly cracking their pillars!

The Dinky Supertoys Vega Major is something I had no interest in as child.  I doubt it was in-budget when new, for my parents!..  apart from that, the model production spanned 1965-71 so was too young look after one

Later year interest in Bedford VAL running gear and engine note (Magical Mystery Tour, Italian Job, etc) has made an impression though.  Saw one of these two years ago at car show auto jumble in nice enough condition with a few chips and missing the cell holder - and to this day don't know why I ummed and ahhed and walked away from it at £20.  Came back an hour later and it had sold!  Muppet.

So, after seeing some tatty examples bid-up to around £25 on 'bay, needing repaints anyway; was surprised to do a deal on this at car boot sale on my doorstep a few weeks ago.  It was on a table committed to collectible diecasts, so more like a market stall than a loft clearance

20200810_183043086_iOS.thumb.jpg.1b70f0fa5b72cac7a6eb58ce12782f49.jpg

So!  It has had a nicely done repaint / re-livery already

It's going to be something perverse like fifteen quid, isn't it?

Also, the very moment somebody releases a 1:76 (or 1:43...) Duple Viceroy VAL, I'll be manipulating my purse strings. That has to be the most Gerry Anderson-styled coach yet devised.

Could cut and shut a pair of Dinky Viceroy 37 ?

They aren't that valuable and suffer from the dodgy 'Speedwheels' design.  Prime candidates, and in-scale.

Chop the bumper, maybe change the wheels, a decent lick of paint with proper detailing of the Gerry Anderson grille would be worth it?

Interesting thought, but I was thinking something along the lines of current EFE etc. levels of detail. Although the older renditions are charming (and your Major is an absolute belter...)
